My Cameo shows it is supposed to be delivered Friday I am so excited for it to get here & have been scouring the internet for ideas & stuff. I found a sight called Lettering Delights. Are the SVG files what the silhouette uses?? Want to make sure before I buy some files!
Or this other site clipartopolis has the choices of wmf, jpg, gif, cdr, al, eps or bmp.. It has some really cute curly kitties my daughter loves that are free right now but which file will work with the Cameo? |

In order to import SVGs into the silhouette software you have to upgrade the software to the designer studio

what about other file options? Do you need designer to import any other files other than what they have in the silhouette store? |

I'm not positive, but I think it will open and cut gsd (?) files. I downloaded something from somewhere besides the store and I downloaded the gsd.file and my cameo cut it. Maybe someone else knows for sure if that's the file. I also have the SCAL and have upgraded it to version 3 and my cameo can cut those, but I have to use the SCAL program, not move them into the actual silhouette program.

Yes, Silhouette is GSD.
You can import and cut anything but it depends on how much time you want to spend if you don't want to purchase the extra software.
There are a ton of designs in the Silhouette store and a ton of free GSD files out there. |

The cut sets at Lettering Delights include GSD files. They also include DXF which can be opened with the free studio software. |

inkscape is another free software you can use to convert any file to the GSD format...

Can someone walk me through this conversion?
Is it as simple as just doing a save as and changing the file type?
When I tried that, I can open it in the Studio software but I can't ungroup it and it lost all the coloring.

Try this tutorial by Penny Duncan
It's been a while since I converted, so I am afraid I will leave out a step and confuse everyone.
If you happen to have SCAL or MTC, you can upgrade to the newer versions and directly cut svgs with the cameo/silhouette/wishblade etc.
(look for directions on how to install and keep your old version too).
Hope that made a little sense.
ETA: you won't need all of the video, just the svg to dxf part.
