I am very unhappy that there is not 1 scrapbook store in the New Orleans area specifically in the Metairie area. Is there anyone from this area that can help me find a scrapbook store? I live in La Place (by the airport) The last store that I shopped at and attended crops was Scrapbooks Etc and I was very disappointed when they closed. The owner said someone else was going to take over the store but that never happened. Then I found another store, Scrapasaurus and they closed too. Now I am looking for a new "home" to purchase supplies and attend crops. I would even settle for a group of people that get together and crop. The closest store to me is in Prairieville or Marrero. Both are almost 40 miles from me.

I feel your pain. Baton rouge is my closest "big" city and there used to be five stores including the one in Prairieville. And now that is the only one left. There used to be one in Mandeville. One in McComb, MS and one in Jackson, MS. All closed now. And I can understand why. There is no way they can compete with Hobby Lobby and Michael's and JoAnn's. I was at Crop Connection in Jackson, MS this weekend and there were no brick and mortar stores there. Only online companies and people who order supplies and do events like that. Sooooo I feel your pain. It is frustrating. I assume the only choice you have locally is Michael's in Kenner? Are you new to your area? It can be very difficult to find a scrapbooking group. I live 65 miles north of Baton Rouge although I frequent BR weekly and NO about once a month or so. There is a weekend event in Mandeville twice a year. Check out their website. Www.scrapfestproductions.com. message me if I can help you with anything else.

Thank you for responding. I am not new to the area but I didn't grow up here either. I have been in the area since 1995. I got into scrapbooking right before Katrina so around 2005. I just remember evacuating with a box full of scrapbooks. I loved Scrapbooks Etc and haven't been able to find another place I like since then. Resulting in me not scrapping for a while since I had no where to go. If there was a store in Ponchatoula or Hammond I would go there since that is the same distance as Metairie except less traffic. Yes my only voice is Michaels or Hobby Lobby in Hammond. I don't have a close group of friends that are into scrapbooking which makes it harder to find a store or group to crop with. I haven't done anything since about 2007. I lost my craft room when we added to our family and I had to box everything up. I finally got a space for me again and set it up last week.
I found this site today and signed up hoping to find inspiration, tips and new friends.

Hi Susan. This is definitely a GREAT place to meet new friends and find tips and techniques. And MUCH MORE. I've met several dear friends here who don't live close but we've had lunch and gone to events together. I checked out your blog. Feel free to check out mine although i have not updated in forever. I, like you, like anything creative-- scrapbooking, painting, sewing, reading, singing, decorating, repurposing, etc. Feel free to email me privately if you'd like a new scrapbooking friend. Hi scares! I live in Metairie. No stores in our area but there is a nice one on the Westbank called Scrapping' Friendzee. Nice ladies.
I joined a kit club (Studio Calico) for exactly this reason. Between them and 2p's, I'm good!

Thanks Lisa. I wish we had a store in Metairie. I have heard of Scrapping' Friendzee, but it is 40 miles one way. The only other one is in Prairieville which is the same distance. I miss going to crops and hanging out with the ladies. This is one reason I stopped cropping for a long time. Now I am trying to get back into it. I have about 5 years of backlog pictures, but unfortunately I didn't take a lot of pictures for a while. I lost my mom in 2006 which hit me really hard and I stopped doing some of the things I enjoyed. Then we had a surprise addition to our family which means I Iost my craft room. Now I have a craft area and I am getting everything unboxed and organized.

Here is our page for info in the "mid south" regions which we call Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. We have the scrapbook stores, scrapbook retreats and local scrapbook events listed. While we may not be able to tell you of a store very close-by, maybe eventually an event or two will be listed that floats your boat

Hope this helps! | |

Welcome back to scrapping. With a new addition, you must have a lot to document!
Glad to hear that there's a scrapbooking store on the Westbank. I'll have to check it out! I miss having a store in the area. Michael's just doesn't cut it. And I can't order from 2Peas every week.

Hey Susan, glad you are back scrapping. I moved from Gonzales to Thibodaux last year, and there is nothing close by. I have a Michaels and Hobby Lobby about 30 minutes away, but I do most of my shopping online. And no one scraps much here. I haven't found many people that are interested in it. I guess gone are the days when there was a scrap store on every corner.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I miss having a local scrapbook store and a group of ladies to scrap with. I have very few friends locally and only 1 scraps that I know of. Most of my friends are in Dallas so of course I can't scrap with them very often if at all. When we had a store they had crops every friday and all day crops once a month. I miss that. It was my me time and now I don't have that. It was like my girls night out. Michaels just doesn't have what I want. I want more unique hard to find things not stuff everyone uses and that can only be found at a scrapbook store.

My fiancé lives in Laplace and I live on the west bank, so I totally understand you not wanting to make the drive. If for whatever reason, you are in the area, I would check out Scrappin Friendzee. They have a good amount of stuff. And its really nice brands too. But if you ever decide to make the drive, I would call first, because they have really odd hours. They are typically closed on Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday. They have a facebook page too.

Scrappin' Friendzee is in Marrero and a great little store! I always stop in when visiting my mom and pop. They carry lines that you can only get online. Also, if you email them or send them a message through FB with a list of things you are looking for, they'll check for you. The owner actually pulled some items for me one time.
