what does LINKED mean?

I am new to the world of cricut - i was looking to buy a couple
used carts - but they say they are "linked" ...sorry but what does that mean ?

"Linked" means that someone has loaded/linked the cartridge to their Gypsy machine. Once you do that, you no longer need to constantly plug the cartridge into your Cricut, so some people take the gamble that their Gypsy will never fail and sell off the cartridge. Since this linking can only be done once, the seller must forewarn the buyer that the cartridge is linked to their Gypsy and the buyer will not be able to use that cartridge if they own a Gypsy as well.
