The tooth fairy forgot to come last night. I had an idea to write her a note and tell her the fairy got caught up in a spider web and wasn't rescued in time to get to our house.

Well DH decided to say "maybe she got caught up in a spider web" .

Thanks! And off to bed he goes! I am fresh out of ideas - anyone care to share or be creative for me?

Thanks in advance!

Did you look carefully? Sometimes when you think the tooth fairy didn't come, lo and behold, the money is on the floor, between the bed and the wall. That happened quite frequently at my house. Usually it took mom to find it. Tooth Fairies don't have as good of an aim as they used to.

It was more rare for the tooth fairy to actually show up on time at our house. I always pictured her as kind of ditzy, late for everything and heaven only knows where she would leave the money. Sometimes she forgot the tooth even.

All of the things that you hold dearest would be gone. The souvenir shot-glass industry would collapse; so would the body-glitter industry -- and, the stretch Hummer rental industry. Tiny cowboy hats would be worn only by tiny cowboys. And when 'Brown- Eyed Girl' would come up on the jukebox, all you would hear ... would be silence .... and 'Brown-Eyed Girl.' But who would 'woo,' ? Who would 'woo'? Would you? Would you ... 'woo'?" B.Stinson

LOL - I can't believe I feel asleep and didn't get the work of the fairy done! Then I come up with what I feel is GREAT story and my DH just mentions it to her as she is slipping into bed. You Dumba$$! Then he says - oh just use it! WHAT! I told the knucklehead to go to bed! What's most entertaining about this - is that I am really PO'd!

The tooth was still there in the bag so we couldn't do the "oh its on the floor cuz' your a crazy sleeper". Buttercup has never forgot the tooth! And to boot, my DD wrote a note that read "Dear Buttercup, I love you! Love T" How could I make the fairy a flaky failure of competence when she is so beloved?

I was so irritated with myself, found the iron clad, creative, fun excuse and DH STEALS it to sooth his little girl. He's sick with a P in front!!

When we forgot we had a family friend call our house pretending to be the tooth fairy. She told my ds that she had been sick the previous evening and couldn't get there to get his tooth but that she was feeling much better and would be there that night. He was 6 and totally bought it. It saved us when we were forgetful.

There are some good letter templates for this online.

When our fairy forgets, she leaves double money the next night.

Thanks ladies!

I went with an apology letter stating that she ran into a little trouble that night. Her tooth bag got caught on an American Girl doll canopy bed and it split open, dropping all those teeth on the floor. After calling a fellow fairy in to bring her a new bag, it took them a long time to collect all the teeth. And upon counting them, they came up 1 short. After searching, they located the tooth in the covers of the doll bed. By then, it was to late to finish their work. She thanked DD for all patience and understanding, congratulated her on caring so well for her teeth and she signed off!

That will do the trick.

I am still mad about my spider web line - I liked it. DH, still shaking my head!

Great story you came up with! It will be a good one to tell years from now.

I'm not nearly so creative, I just told mine that perhaps the tooth fairy flew by before they were asleep and she didn't have time to wait for them to go to sleep. I had nightowls for children and it was a very believable possibility.

When I was little and the tooth fairy had not come it was due to a tooth fairy convention. Lo and behold my son had the same thing happen. The good news is the next night they get double the normal tooth rate. My son hopes for tooth fairy conventions. Apparently there was one last night as the tooth fairy didn't come here as well.

Ours forgot once. The next night she left a note that there had been so many teeth lost that day, that she ran late and DD had woken up before she could get there.

The note was on pretty pink paper, printed in a swirly font, and had some glitter sprinkled on it. It was placed on top of the money, under the pillow

Someone told me that their Tooth Fairy left foreign money along win the dollars to
show where she'd been earlier in the night. Loved this idea and it would be a great foil for forgetting...the Tooth Fairy got caught up in Singapore or wherever...

I tried to do the Tooth Fairy but I would forget, or they would "hide" the tooth in places unknown. It was easier to tell them there was no Tooth Fairy.

This is what I did the one time that the Tooth Fairy was late.

I forgot 2 nights in a row once when ds was sick. My excuse note to him read that the tooth fairy didn't want to catch his cold so she waited until he was better.
