What do you enjoy seeing in scrapbooking blogs?
What keeps you coming back for more?
For me, it is posts about projects. I love macro shots of page details.
Pictures of products, whether it is new stuff you have received from your design team or your recent LSS haul!
Pictures of organization, storage, etc.
Posts about where you draw inspiration from.
Writing a bit about the background or history of the page, including areas that may have left you a bit stumped or problems you encountered doing the page.

Pictures of projects. Period.
I'm not there to see your kids,
I don't care about your vacation,
I don't care about your house remodel,
I don't care that you're feeling sad today,
I don't care that you're ecstatic,
I don't care that you just got married, or are pregnant or about your new car.
Keep that on another blog where people can go to learn all about you and the wonderful person you are in RL.
I'm visiting (from 2Peas especially) to see crafty things.
I want to see your layouts.
I want to see the new card you made.
I want to see a *picture* (not a video) of the great deals you got at your scrappy store or Expo.
I want to see your Copic techniques, your paper folding, your die cutting or your organization tips.
If you have something new, I'm excited about it too!
And I want a lot of pictures! Sure, talk about your project, but I want a nice big picture I can click on to make it even bigger so I can see all the little details you put in there without you having to take 900 photos of one layout.
You may be a lovely person, but when I blog surf, I'm just looking at the pictures.

I think this was said on the other thread about blogs, but what drives me crazy is when someone posts little pictures with snippets from their project, but not a picture of the WHOLE project. Sure a close up shot is nice, but dang-it, I wanna see the whole layout in one picture!!! A big one too, one that isn't "saved for web" so that it isn't so grainy I can't make anything out. That would be fabulous |

I want to see photos of projects. I don't care for videos, just one large photo of a layout/card/whatever you made and maybe one or two close-ups if it's useful. That's how I like it!

I think pictures of layouts and projects goes without saying....
I especially love when the blogger includes a supply list. It makes shopping easier.
I love before/afters (like Shimelle's starting points). The same goes for sketches to scrapbook. I love seeing what the layout started out as and how it ended up. It's fun to see the difference.
I don't see why everyone is so up tight about bloggers writing about their personal life. Scrapbooking is about remembering the special events that our lives offer us. It's about being inspired by your family. Why wouldn't you write about life on your blog? I don't see a problem with the blogger posting a personal entry every now and again. It is their blog after all. |

OMG at a couple of the responses! I'm not a blogger nor will I ever BUT unless it is a blog where the blogger gets PAID which I'm not sure there are very many outside of the scrapbook celebs, it is up to the author ad to what they share. It is THEIR blog so if they want to gush about their kids, their vacation or their mundane life, I dont think that 'we' as someone who stumbles upon their blog can dictate what their content is!
Personally, I love a well made video, lots of pictures and tidbits of their personal life--that helps me connect with their scrapbooking. |

I love all inspired blogs no matter what they have on it. Following photography blogs are especially amazing. There are times when the mojo ain't flowing and I feel its important to keep the blog going so other stuff goes up in order for people not to lose interest, and when I travel I love to share that.
The only thing that drives me nuts is the music. |

I don't think anyone here is telling the bloggers what to do. They can and should do whatever they want. We are just discussing what we as readers like to see on blogs. Same as discussing books or fashion. I am not telling Stephen King how to write or what to write, but if I don't like his books I won't read them. Plain and simple.
I also think that bloggers who want more followers/readers would like to know what people like so they can increase their readership. They obviously don't have to do so, and nobody is forcing them, but some do care what the readers like. |

I was asked what I want to see when I visit a blog. And I never said that about a specific person. Did you not read my disclaimer? I hold MYSELF to the same standard. If I like to see something in a blog, I blog the same way.
I never said that anyone, a specific person or a person in general, can't do whatever the hell they want on their own blog (god knows I do), but since I was asked what I like to see, I made it clear what I'm going to completely skip if I go to a blog like that. I see nothing wrong or mean about being honest. The tone is yours to infer, I'm sorry. |

I have to say I just look at blogs too. On a slow evening, when I have time I might read a little more, but for the most part I am just looking at the pictures.
So your pictures need to load fast! If your files are so big that it takes longer than 15 seconds, I move on to the next one.
One set up I like is lots of photos, maybe with one sentence descriptions for each and then a longer tutorial type description or video at the end. That way if I am still interested by the time I get to the end I can read on, or if not I can look at the photos and go to the next blog.
I love seeing the versatility of a product or product line, so I actually like blog hops. I am a frugal scraper with limited space, so the more use I can get out of a particular line the more likely I am to buy it.

I find this all really interesting...and I'm curious about the mixing of layouts/projects and real life...if I consider my blog more of a "lifestyle" blog with some scrapbooking or writing tie-in, does that mean you don't really want to read it? You're strictly looking for layouts/projects/ideas?
This is something I've wondered a lot, so I'm taking notes! |

Courtney - it's completely up to you what you put on your blog. If a "lifestlye blog" is what makes you happy, then by all means have it. Your blog is for you, first and foremost (or it should be).
But a lot of us seem to be saying that yeah, we just look at pictures. Reading is hard! LMAO! If you're okay with some readers not getting through everything, or just skimming the content of your posts, then keep your blog how YOU like it. If not, perhaps separate the two, personal and crafty, then the reader can choose what he or she is interested in.
Worry about doing what you like first though, because if you're "playing to an audience" then you'll likely get bored or frustrated with your blog and not want to continue. |

Yeah, I like to see multiple areas of a person's life. I do like the project photos the most, but I also like to see outfit posts, posts about places they went or how they decorated their house or whatever. The vast majority of the blogs I follow daily are like that. However, I will say that only maybe two of those would be considered scrapbook blogs, so maybe that's a little different? Of course, to each their own, but I like to see the life behind the projects, and I follow enough blogs already--no way would I keep up with someone's personal blog AND their project blog. |

I get bored when it's all about scrapbooking/crafting/card-making. Or if every post is just "here's a page I made". Especially if those pages are uploaded in a million galleries online (or just the two I visit ). I'm also so tired of project life posts. It's fine if it's posted every once in a while, but every week is too much for me.
I hate posts about hauls. The only exception if it's some sort of sale a company has where they stuff a box with product and the post is showing all of the stuff that was in the box. That way, in the future, I'll know if I want to do it.
I like a mix of life, tutorials and the things that interest the person. I like it if someone shares their inspiration and then the end result of that inspiration.

I like it all. I don't visit a blog that I can't connect with. Most of the people that I read have become friends or friendly with each other. Some blogs are all projects, Some are all life and some are a mix of both. I don't limit it to one thing. I'm on you tube more than blogs and I keep up my you tube channel more than my blog. I have so many that I follow that I don't have time to keep up with everyone so many times I just skim through google reader and note which ones to go back to and leave comments. My "friends" I usually visit and comment on every one of their posts. |

I really didn't expect this question to bring up feelings of contention.
I think everyone should blog whatever makes them happy. I do prefer to see at least half posts about whatever I'm interested in -- the reason I'm reading your blog -- like scrapbooking, home decor, etc, and less than half about family vacation, etc. I like to see the side of you that makes you, YOU, but mostly am probably reading your blog for other reasons. |

Reading this thread has really reminded me that you can't please everyone.
I'm not even consistent in what I like in scrapbooking blogs!
Some blogs I follow because I like the projects, even though I don't connect with the author's 'voice'. Those I just want photos and will skip text.
Some blogs I like the author so will read even if not inspired by the projects.
There are only a special few blogs that I seem to adore everything posted. |

I LOVE LOVE LOVE when there are tags at the end of each blog post. Much more effective than the related posts with pictures, in my own opinion.
I do not care how a blogger accepts comments on their blog.
I like to see pictures, NOT videos of your scrapbook room.
Videos for techniques only.
Blogs that are updated often. If it's been more than 6 months, I stop looking.

I have to really like the blogger first and foremost and then I am interested in their entire life, including but not limited to, their art. It's like finding a new friend. I am super picky about blogs I read and I have a list of about 30 I check weekly. The people must inspire me, must usually be more talented than I consider myself, must have great photography skills (for pics of their projects) and be someone who is clever in their writing. The first one that springs to mind is Lisa Dickinson. She doesn't always post about crafty things but I just love anything she says because she's so funny, sassy and she has an incredible sense of style. It's like sitting down with a girlfriend for a while when I surf blogs. I have to kind of feel like I know you.
Also, when I find a blog I like, I will literally sit and read it for HOURS until I've read almost all of it! I'm a super fast reader but I know - that is still weird!!

I mainly visit blogs for the pics and videos are ok too, but I usually find those on my own on YT. If the pics pull me in, then I want some details and especially supplies used. I used to blog projects and personal stuff, but now I just post projects because I really don't think people want or care to read about my personal life and I was boring myself so I can only imagine what I was doing to others who stumbled on my blog I don't mind reading others' blogs that have a mix of projects and personal stuff though.
Not to hijack this thread--but could someone please walk me through how to add tags or the little thumbnail pics of related posts at the bottom of a post on blogger? Is this possible? I can't say I've ever paid attention to whether the blogs of seen these on were wordpress, typepad, or blogger. I've looked for it everywhere on the dashboard in blogger and I can't figure it out.

Since I am not a frequenter, not much of an opinion but love that these people post things that people like me can enjoy.
P. S. Just skip the blogs you don't like and enjoy the ones that appeal to you.

I enjoy blogs that have a mixture on content. But then again, I follow lots of blogs including cooking, style and design blogs too. I will admit that I tend to skim over most posts that are just talk and little to no pictures, unless it's something substantial they are saying. And I can't stand music on blogs (although my best friend loves to hear the music and just told me I should add some to my blog...lol). Also, I think bloggers should do their very best to get the best pictures that they can...I may love a project they made, but if I can barely see it because the photos are so dark, then it defeats the purpose of sharing it...
I've struggled with what all to post to my blog...but then I stop and remember, it's MY blog. That's part of the fun of visiting other people's blogs...half the ones I run across I may not like, but then every so often I find ones that I ADORE! It's just like going to a mall and going shopping...there may be hundreds of stores in the mall and you may like ones that I don't like. So I say post what you want on your own blog and let people know you blog...they'll visit and if they enjoy then they will keep coming back |

This! I am a multifaceted person, and I am most inspired by other people who have various facets to their lives. Creativity takes on many forms, and inspiration comes from many things. I should say that I rarely scraplift, so I am mostly looking for inspiration, mojo or just a plain creativity kick every now and then. |

Op pretty much said it all, except that I don't care what you got in the mail. I want to see them goodies on a page!
I used to think it's pointless to include anything personal on a craft blog, but after browsing so many blogs, I think a little bit of personal life is great. It makes me feel like I "know" this person and that I'm her friend. Moderation is the key though!
Lately I've been skipping all the PL layouts. After 5-6 weeks everyone's layouts start to look the same. Besides, the whole point of PL is no excessive decorations necessary, so I don't feel like I want to scraplift a PL layout. |

I've struggled with finding that balance too, even to the point of not posting much at all lately! However, I'm getting ready to start again, keeping this in mind!

I get bored when it's all about scrapbooking/crafting/card-making. Or if every post is just "here's a page I made".
I like a mix of life, tutorials and the things that interest the person. I like it if someone shares their inspiration and then the end result of that inspiration.
^^^this is me, too. I like knowing something about the person 'behind' the artwork or the layout- something that gives me a sense of their personality. For me, blogs are kind of like getting to know someone in their authentic voice, and it isn't very authentic (to me) if it's ONLY about crafting or scrapping.
