Welcome to the Young Scrappers thread, May 2012 edition!

Who are the Young Scrappers? We are a group of "young" 20-something to 30-something year old girls who created a group to share our interest in scrapbooking! We take the "young" part lightly - it's all about how young you feel. Feel free to join in the chat! Just post an intro so we know who you are. And post links to your layouts here - we love to share our work & leave some praise!

May is an exciting month for scrapbooking - starting off with National Scrapbook Day! And many of us are finishing up with classes for the summer, which means more scrappy time!

sorry I'm always slacking in posting the new thread

Is everyone getting excited for NSD?! I am! I've planned to spend my Friday and Saturday scrapbooking. I stocked up on good snacks & meals. oh, and of course drinks - I'll be drinking mango mojitos this weekend

Should we do a chat/games/whatever on the thread over the weekend?

Cannot believe it's already May!!!!

@@Caro, thanks for the congrats. now i just have to wait until june 5th to get the diploma in my hands!
i have not finished, but i'm so close... i'm stuck on the last 3 pages. jonny and myself are going to write a page each as a trip summery which i am going to place in there as well. i printed out all the pics at once (around 450)
i had a bit of money in my savings since i knew i wouldn't be working during my practicum so i used that instead of going out/entertainment! everywhere is having crazy awesome sales for once too!
52 weeks is much more realistic! great idea

@Loni, he knows I put in tons of time and effort into it, she he better be willing lol

Spent the last 4 hours making a envelope mini album for Jonny and I's anniversary. It's my first mini book and I'm pretty impressed with what I've done... I'd post on my blog but Jonny reads it occasianally so cannot risk it. Well definaty be up when our Anniversary is over!

Rach, maybe I will do a prize with "points" earned from the games!

Melissa, congrats on graduating! I will be getting my degree on May 22 (well, that's when graduation is... they actually mail your degree later). I am sooo excited, even if it is just an associates.

so today I reserved a shelter at our local lake for a graduation party. Super excited! All of the weekends in May & beginning of June were booked, so I have to do it on a Friday. Not as happy about that, but it works. The good thing is it won't be until June 1, so I'll have more time to prepare. My friend & I drove out to the lake today to check it out and the shelter is awesome - right on the lake!

Hey ladies! I haven't been around much lately, but have kept up with the thread a little. Congrats to Monica and Christina for finishing finals and Melissa for finishing practicum

Melissa- your anniversary album sounds cool. I've never made one, but have made a firefighter scrapbook for my BF before. I was just thinking the other day, I have several pictures from our trips/etc., I need to do some sort of album for us. Also, congrats on your Xyron win!

I haven't had much spare time lately, and what I have, I've been trying to relax. Starting yesterday, I will be busy up until next weekend. Yesterday evening, BF and I went to his niece's first t-ball game. T-ball games are always so funny
Then this evening after work, I have to go to Relay for Life (cancer awareness fundraiser/event, for those that don't know)...my workplace's team is Toy Story, and I'm the only one that can fit into the Jessie the Cowgirl costume
All next week, I won't be at work, but will be in a work-related class, learning jail standards/operating procedures. Next Friday is bunko, and BF and I are 'hosting' (thankfully at another player's house, but we're in charge of menu, etc.). Anddddd....next Saturday, I'll be teaching a beginning scrapbooking class! I'm excited but also nervous. We're anticipating 25-30 people I've never taught one before, so hopefully it won't be a total flop.
I'm still trying to get everything together for the class; that is what is taking up all of my free time lately.
It never fails, I have the most boring life ever, but whenever I have something to do, it seems like I start having a lot of stuff to do, and all at the same time. It makes me feel stressed at times, for sure

Caro: NSD is national scrapbooking day.

I'm at the midwife's office because I feel like crap. I think I have a fever, have a sore throat, and green drainage. I also feel so weak. I need to feel better!!!!

Hi everyone! I was checking out the forum section and found your post. A little about myself, my name is Vanessa and I am 27 years old. I have been crafting for as long as I can remember and about a year ago I began my blog. After that I have been non-stop crafting. I am married to my DH and have a beautiful son who is 5. They have been extremely supportive with all my crazy ideas and late crafting nights. Love them to death. I recently graduated with a bachelors and currently working on my Masters in accounting. I also work full time at the bank and recently started a handmade card/ craft supplies online store. I don't know many people who share the same interest as me so I'm always checking out challenges and other blogs so I'm really excited that I found this post.

Monica, a YSers NSD celebration? Let's start now!

Melissa, my Hubby loves when I make stuff for him. I bet Jonny will like the mini you made.

Caro, enjoy your long weekend!

Wow Julie! You are busy! Good luck with that class

I feel really silly, while we were out on our date Tuesday, we lost a baby blanket - my favorite!- so I called Home Depot today and they are going to mail it back to me! I know I'm weird, but it had her birth stats embroidered really cute on the corner!! I feel dumb, but I'm going to be so happy to have it back!

Rachel, I hope everything is okay with the baby and that you feel better soon!

Vanessa, welcome I'm Loni, married 8 years with 4 kids. One of them is a 5yo boy! He starts kindergarten next year. Is your son in school yet?

morning girls!
Day 1 of scrap-a-thon for me! Of course, my bff texted me saying she is down and wants to come over to hang out I didn't want to be mean and say no, but I did tell her I am going to scrap!

Caro- NSD is National Scrapbook Day! Too bad you won't have time to do any crafting this weekend. Doing your masters in France, huh? That sounds exciting to me, although I'm sure it will be a lot of work!

Julie- haha, I had to laugh about you saying your life is boring yet when you have something to do, it's all at once -- that is so totally me! I swear. Most of the time, my life is boring but everything always happens at the same time! Congrats on teaching the scrapbooking class. I'm sure you will do great! Is it through a lss?

Rach- oh no, that sucks I hope you feel well enough to scrapbook this weekend.

Vanessa- welcome! I am working on my bachelors in accounting... I actually graduate in a couple of weeks with my associates, and then will have 3 more semesters to get my bachelors. So excited! I also worked at a bank for a while and loved it. I so miss that job! By the way, I'm Monica, 26y/o, from Kansas City. I have no kids and am not married, but I have a doggie named Dinky and plenty of nieces/nephews/cousins to spoil.

-omg I feel soooo behind. I have recently been promoted at work to shift leader (basically a manager. we have shifts and a store manager who's only there 40 hours a week) I also switched to the night shift. It's a 24 hour pharmacy. 10pm-6am is a rough eight hours. It's weird being awake right now but I was off last night and fell asleep. So I've lately been just sleeping and working. It's just not natural to be asleep the opposite hours. I don't think I'll get completely used to it.
-I got my first big check and I think I'm going to the beach to see a friend the next time I get 2 days off in a row!
-I haven't done anything scrappy lately I've just been working and sleeping lol. Hopefully today I'll get some stuff done.
-I'm still trying to see about school. I'm technically enrolled, have a place to live, and have 9 hours (need 3 more for full time). but I still need to see if it's financially viable. I also need to see if my job will transfer.

so that's my april/beginning of may in a nutshell.

Vanessa, I know, at least I had 3 more still at home when my oldest went to school. (Wait, I only had 2 and was preggers with one, hehe) You get to go through the double grief of your first and only going! I cried a little every day that first week, but he didn't miss me AT ALL! He missed his bro and sis a little. My DS age 5 will start summer school - kindergarten orientation on June 4. It will ease us into it - that's another thing! They have to go all day! It is a big change, but I think this orientation will be immensely helpful.

Monica, Let's do it!

Bethany, did you end up moving?

ran up to get some movies from Redbox & something to drink. Now I'm all set!

Vanessa- haha, you're right. It takes a certain person to like accounting. But I just have that math brain & I like boring stuff I actually started out in accounting my freshman year in college, then switched to elementary education. Right before getting my degree, I decided I didn't want to do education right now, and here I am back to accounting! So, really, I could have had my degree a long time ago... ugh.

Bethany- wow, you sound busy girl! I can't imagine working graveyard shift, either. It would kill me. My body just isn't used to that! My brother, on the other hand, is like the opposite. He stays up most of the night and sleeps most of the day. Anyway, I hope everything with school works out!

Loni- I'm on it, stat! Let me go find a game idea...

Hello everyone! My name is Chanel and I used to belong to this group about 3-4 years ago and due to well, life in general!, had to step away for awhile but am now ready to begin scrapping more again and would love to be involved with this board again.
Just a little about me, I am 27, married to Ryan, have 2 ds (Jonah, who turns 6 tomorrow!, and Calvin, 3 1/2 months), I work full time but love to scrap when I can squeeze it in.

okay, here goes!

GO FISH!
I will start this game by asking a simple question that requires a definite yes or no answer. For example, I might ask, "Do you like fish?" If the next person likes fish, he or she answers by saying yes, and the person that answers asks a new question. If they don't like fish, they reply with the phrase "go fish." Another person chooses to answer by saying "yes" and posting a new question or they forfeit by saying "go fish." The question is then passed on to someone else.

I hope that's not too complicated!

The first question is: Have you traveled out of your country?

Hi Monica! I remember you too - I was happy to see your smiling face when I pulled up the thread.
Yes, I just went ahead and created a new account - the email I had initially used to create my previous account is no longer active so I just went about it this way - I'm not very tech savvy! haha
Since tomorrow is my son's birthday and we've got Opening Day for T-Ball I won't be able to get on here - it sounds like it's going to be fun though!

Monica- lol! Same here. I went in freshman year as an accounting major but mid yr changed my mind , only to go back to accounting. It took me forever to graduate because I didn't go full time but after my son was born I was determined to do whatever it takes to finish.

Hi Chanel!
Welcome back! I know how hard it is to fit scrapbooking being a mom and working full time. That's why I'm always up late when everyone is tucked in bed lol.

Rach- Hope you feel better soon! I've got the crud, too. I *always* get sick with the weather change in winter...this past winter was the first time I haven't gotten sick. Made it through winter and the spring pollen...and now coming into summer, my nose/head are all stuffy

Monica- I'm glad I'm not the only one with this 'luck'! Thankfully, it's all fun stuff I'm loaded down with, but I feel sometimes like I don't have time to stop and take a breath! The class isn't through an LSS, but through a lady I met in college a few years back (I went to community college, so there was a big age range...she's probably at least 10 years older than I am). I don't know her exact job title, but she helps displaced adults find jobs and take classes, etc. Anyway, she had asked on Facebook a while back if anyone would be interested in teaching a beginners scrapbooking class, and I volunteered.

Loni- Sounds like a special blanket...it's not silly to want it back! It's good that they're returning it to you.

Vanessa & Chanel- Hi! I'm Julie, 24, from Arkansas...not married/no kids. I like to scrap, spend time with BF, and ride horses.

whew! when I want a day of scrapbooking, everybody needs me! First, my friend wanted to come over because she was lonely. Then my bro texts and says he needs me to take him to urgent care. He decided to try to make it through work & wants me to take him to the hospital tonight instead. I just hope there aren't any more interruptions!!

Chanel- yes, time to get back into scrapbooking! I see you found my Pinterest board

Melissa- uh, yeah, you deserve a grad party too! I am so excited about mine, even if it's just my associates. Hey, it's an accomplishment.

yep! plenty of dogs, cats, and a fish once. Plus farm animals.

Have you ever missed somebody so bad it hurt?

shoot, I need to figure out how to "end" the game and figure out who gets points! How about the 7th, 13th, and 20th people to answer "yes" to a question get a point. We'll end the game at 20 questions. And I'll keep track of how many points everyone has, and the top 2 people will get a prize from me!

Yes , three of them . One on my ankle that says love in Chinese. On my back I have my son's foot print and I have "la vita Bella" written on the bottom.

Are you at work right now?

Ya, I was hoping for some challenges earlier too. Is studio calico doing anything right now or just tomorrow?
I've done 2 1/2 challenges for the Nook pre-nsd crop.

Hey girls!

TGIF!!!! (well actually it's already saturday over here )
Just a quick hi before I hop into bed

Can't believe we're in May already! Time goes by so fast! I think it has something to do with having a jam packed agenda During the week it's only work work work and one weekend after another is filled with bachelorette parties, birthdays et cetera... All great fun of course... But I would definately would like some time to just do nothing.. Oh well.. to be able to do nothing.. 'cause I wouldn't end up doing nothing after all

@ Melissa: Queensday was fun! The weather was great (for one day; this spring is horrible) A lot of people do indeed wear crowns that day There also are a lot of music festivals through out the country.. So a day of fun

Tonight we had some sort of remembrance thing.. Every year on the fourth of may we remember all civilians and members of the armed forces of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who have died in wars or peacekeeping missions since the outbreak of WWII...

And then tomorrow again another party: Liberation day. Each year on the fifth of may we celebrate to mark the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during WWII. We were liberated on that date in 1945 by (mostly) canadians & americans. Tomorrow will be another day filled with festivals, wearing our national colour and waving our flag

So.. after geography comes history

It does however mean not that much time for me to scrap on NSD Also because we'll be celebrating my fiancés birthday So should be a fun day anyway

Well that's it... I probably didn't answer all of you, but this post is getting longer and longer anyway

So let me just finish by saying welcome to all new girls and goodnight to all of you!

Oh! I forgot to tell.. Have been working on the ATC's tonight! They're not finished, but will try to finish 'em this weekend so I can send them to Rach

BTW, since I'm new to the whole ATC thing.. Do you write something on them or what? And Rach, not sure about how to handle the whole postage thing.. could pay you through paypal if that's ok with you? (don't have any $$ cash on hand sorry )

ohhhh yeah!

Did you stock up on snacks/drinks for the weekend?

Dee- wow, already Saturday night there? That's no fun that you don't get to play along for NSD. We'll miss you!

Loni- yep, SC has challenges posted on their blog. I've started working on those!

@Monica No, we're not that far ahead It's 1:24 am saturday Was staying up late to wait for my bf who was out on the town I might try to join you all tomorrow before the birthday party... Depends on when we're done doing groceries, cleaning the house, et cetera Saw some fun challenges over at SC

@Melissa: It still really is a big thing over here... Although all the remembrance/liberation activities get more and more detached from WWII and become more general (to remember those that have died during wars & peace keeping missions and to celebrate that we live in freedom)

Do you like snakes?

Uh, Go Fish!

2 years ago my son came up to me and said, mom! Mom! Theirs a snake in the house! - I thought it was a game they were playing . . . NOPE! I cried and screamed and got on the table and called Hubby to leave work immediately, the 5 inch baby snake had to be removed by me though.

Not really a fan of snakes, no.

loni I actually laughed! I don't mind snakes, unless poisonous. Jonny almost got bit by one while we were in a jungle in Guatemala (thankfully he didn't!)

Dee- oh, LOL... I thought you meant night time on Saturday. I hope you get to join us for a bit tomorrow!

Loni- ewww, that is so gross about the snake! Now my bro has geckos and they're okay but otherwise I'm not a fan of reptiles.

I'm watching We Bought a Zoo. Pretty good so far.
