I know that you can purchase 'cuts' that make file folders, mini albums, and cards - but how does the actual cutting of these files work? Does the Silhouette Cameo actually score them or does it just end up cutting them?

I have made the score lines by using the show cut line feature and turning off the outside cut, just leaving the dotted lines to be cut.

First, I do the outside cut and I DO NOT remove the mat. I put the outside cut onto NO CUT and put the dotted line on CUT. Then I have an extra blade that I keep set on 1 that I pop into my machine. I do the second cut and it has turned out very nice. It doesn't cut all the way through the paper, but it is easy to fold. I made several of the candy dispensers and one of the three drawer chests with this method. I thought they looked a lot better than the full thickness cuts on the dotted lines.

no the machine doesn't emboss the image on the fold lines....if you aren't handy with a straight ruler, then I would suggest creating a perforated line (which the software has dash lines) and then use a metal tip ball to score the paper.

I do that all the time, and to help with the scoring, I sometimes use a thin mouse pad my friend gave me from the dollar store.

I have a tutorial on my blog for scoring with the Cameo. I use a stylus in the Chomas Creations adjustable pen holder with a regular Cameo mat, score the cardstock (sometimes a few times, depending on how thick your paper or cardstock is), and it makes it so easy to fold!

If you are buying a shape from the Silhouette store that has a fold line, it will score it don't have to do anything.

It actually makes tiny cuts, but they are so small, it doesn't effect the sturdiness of your project at all. I have made LOTS of boxes and containers using these files, and they hold up beautifully...I've never had a score line tear.
