A few weeks ago I posted that my MIL had a hemmangioma, which was a mass of blood vessels that had grown to b significantly large, and had started to block a nerve in her face, as well as grow into a bone. We all went down on Thursday for some of her pre-surgery appointments ( and my hubby just wanted to spend time with her), and she had her surgery yesterday at a University hospital. It was a 6 hour procedure, and we were finally able to see her at 10 pm last night. For the most part, things went well...they removed all of the hemmangioma, which indeed was benign. The bad news is the had to fully remove the nerve, which means that the side of her face will be permanently paralyzed, as it was before the surgery. They will also go in and put a gold weight in her eyelid so she can have control over it & close it. They also tore apart her ear canal, which is going to be a painful recovery. The doctor also said that often times when they get close to the brain like this, the patient will have dizzy spells for a while.

She is still in the NCCU and will get moved to a step down ICU tomorrow, and depending on her recovery, she can come home Tues or Wed.

Thank you to everyone who wished us well.

I pray she recovers quickly.
