I was pretty shocked when I removed my 4 bandages over the weekend and found shinny metal staples (I thought they would use disolving stitches). I have 16 staples in my stomache and have my follow up appoiintment this afternoon. It seems like it is going to hurt to have them removed. I get kind of light-headed just thinking about it. How bad is it?

I had mine out a year and a half ago and I do not remember the staple removal at all, so it must not have hurt. Trust me, I remember pain. I think that it is nothing for you to worry about. After going through the pain of a bad gallbladder, everything else is just minor.

I'm shocked that you have staples, too! I guess they couldn't do laparoscopic surgery on you, for some reason?

I can only speak for myself; I had staples in after my c-sections and after my gallbladder removal. I was SO scared to have them taken out!!!! I winced and grabbed my husband's hand and squeezed my eyes shut....and then looked up to find out that the doctor was done and they were all out

Don't sweat it... you've been through the hard part!

lovetodigi, I do agree with what you said. While I had some "pain" from my surgery, none of it has come close in intensity to my gallbladder attacks!!!

I just got my gallbladder taken out on Sunday- I feel your pain! However, I have lovely super glued sores to take care of, not staples. What did they do to you? I'm sure they will numb the area- just look away when they do it!

I had them with all 3 of my c-sections. They just kind of lift/flick them out. And no, they don't numb you for it. It doesn't hurt.

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

It doesn't hurt. I was very nervous and prepared for pain and I could barely feel anything. Definitely no pain, not even a pinch or pull. Nothing.

It should be fine! I think the only thing after surgery that hurts the worst is if you have a drain tube. I swear that sucker felt like it was all the way to my chest. You take a deep breath and they pull it. YUCK. I would take staples any day!

I don't remember having had staples after my gall bladder, but I've had them w/other surgery and the removal was quick and comfy. I don't remember any discomfort. Hope the posters on this thread who are just recovering from galbladder surgery are comfy and healing more and more each day.

Now that you mention it, I think I did have a few little staples (maybe 4), but I have no memory at all of having them removed.

I had mine out using the laparoscopic procedure in March and I had staples. Two little staples per incision. It's easy peasy to get out. Now, if they're infected and they kind of explode open like mine did... Don't ya love all the crap and bugs you pick up *in* the hospital???

Anyway, it doesn't hurt at all.

I am interested to hear if anyone has any post surgical pain in the same area due to no bile regulation... I've had this weird pain that my doctor says some people do get post surgery. No way to know who will or won't get it. And trust me, it can be pretty painful. Diet helps some. I had stones blocking the ducts so my surgery was not avoidable and done as an emergency. It sucks that it didn't really cure the problem 100%.

Staple removal is quick and painless. They usually use a funny looking little tool that looks sort of like a nail clipper - the really just sort of lift the staples out, the most you're likely to feel is a slight little tug.

From my Csection I couldn't even feel the staple removal after a week. The incision was numb (still is), so you truly have no idea it happened!!!

I had my gall bladder out in March also during a laparoscopic procedure, but I had only dis-solvable stitches, no staples. My surgeon also took the extra precaution of flushing my bile ducts in the event that one of my many gall stones was inside one of the ducts that they couldn't see with the scope.

I did take me longer than I anticipated to recover from my surgery and go back to work.

I had back surgery last year and they staples they used were fairly large. I was scared, too! There were a couple that stung a bit when the nurse took them out but it wasn't bad at all.

That is why I don't remember staples. When I read this, I remembered that I had the super glue, not staples. However, I don't think that it will hurt much to get them out, if at all.

I've had staples a few times. Slight pulling feeling - but no pain. Very fast and easy - don't stress at all about it.

It will only hurt if there has been a lot of leakage and a staple has a lot of scabbing round it. And it should feel like somebody picking at a scab.

Otherwise you shouldn't feel a thing.

Well I'm back and I wish I could say my experience was like most of yours but unfortunately it was kinda painful. There was a lot of stinging and now some burning. One staple was imbedded deep in my bellybutton and when he pulled that one out it felt like he was pulling out my bellybutton from the inside--weird and quite painful. However, it did go pretty quickly. My staples seemed pretty darn long too. So glad that is over.

Last night I had my first rough night in the bathroom (my stomache churned from dinner for 3 hours). I'm not sure if that is good since it is a full week since my surgery or bad. I'm just going to proceed with caution and probably need to start a food diary if I have another episode so I can start pinpointing problem foods.

Ive had staples in my stomach twice but not with gallbladder. I had them with c-sections. It didnt hurt to have them removed, in fact it was nice because I was beginning to itch with them in.

I didn't have staples for my gallbladder surgery, but a year later I had to have my large intestine removed. I had an almost ten inch vertical incision closed with 50+ staples. That puppy was from right below my rib cage to the top of my pubic area.

I had the staples removed two weeks later and it didn't hurt at all. I barely felt it when he did it.

I had staples with my gallbladder surgery too. I saw your update and you aren't alone with it hurting. Luckily after the first one hurt really bad I let the nurse/his assistant know and they were much more careful.

I can't remember which pea asked about pain but I still do have pain right where my gallbladder was. I got mine out January 29th. I don't know if it is normal or not. For awhile I couldn't eat salads but luckily it seems like I can now. It's definitely not a fun experience.

I think they had to use staples with me because I have had so many surgeries for endometriosis. That's the only reason I can think of to explain why I had so many (15 or so). It seems they cut into one part of my stomach and that didn't work so they glued and stapled me up and tried another section.

I hope you heal quickly. It takes awhile in the beginning to figure out what will help your body and what will hurt it. I still feel like I am trying to figure it out because the typical foods that I would think would help it, sometimes hurt it more.

It shouldn't hurt. They use a staple remover much like the one you use at home. I used to take them out of people, lol, and I never had anyone complain. Good luck!

I had my gallbladder removed last Thursday and I go back to see the surgeon tomorrow. I have 19 staples in the five incisions I have from the laparoscopic surgery. Even know I have had staples with both my c-sections I am terribly scared to have these removed. I guess it's partially due to the several different locations. After reading all your posts I am feeling a little more at ease about it now. Or maybe that's the pain meds kicking in. We will see how it goes.

Oh good lord it must be Gall Bladder season LOL. I had mine out last Tuesday.

I feel great. 4 incisions with dis solvable stitches that look and feel fine.

Started exercising again yesterday with a light 30 minute walk. Was a little sore at the end but not even enough to take a panadol or similar.

Diet is going fine and have had no repercussions with food - that being said I am still sticking fairly low fat and will do so for a while yet.

Wow, Im sorry it hurt!

I had my GB out several years ago and had dissolvable stitches and no worries with those.

I had staples after my last ds was born via csection. I was scared to death about having the staples removed and the doctor had several out before I even realized he was doing it already.

As far as the bathroom issues go, I think that's normal. I had a HORRIBLE time for a good year after my removal. Almost everything I hate gave me diarrhea. Mine was taken out 13 years ago and its much better now. However, if I eat greasy food or salad its still pretty bad!

Having them removed didn't hurt nearly as much as it did when I bumped them the day after surgery, but even that was nothing compared to the attack that necessitated the surgery.

So, I'd say you should be good.

I had dissolving stitches too. Mine was 12 years ago... I was out of school a week and the thing that bothered me was my belly button! I remembered being happy about being able to button my pants!

I had my gall bladder removed last May. Four small incisions with a couple dissolving stitches in 2 of them, super glue in the others. I had surgery at 8 am and was back home resting during the lunch hour. No funky stomach issues, no special diet.

Take a long, deep breath as he pulls the staple
