DH's mom passed peacefully in a beautiful hospice facility in CT.
She was at peace with her decision to go into hospice. I'm so glad my husband was there, as well as his two sisters and father. They had all gone to see her late last night after dinner and DH said he knew his goodbye was probably for real.
The mass should be amazing; she worked for the chief of police in New Canaan, and they have all commited to being there to honor this lovely woman.
On a prevous thread I had asked your opinions about whtether or not my kids should go up and see her one last time. Because of her wishes, they did not go. Caeley's letter was the last thing she was able to read. |

Thanks, Batya. I knew her since 1989; she was one of the most wonderful moms I've ever known. The patience she showed her children and grandchildren was phenomenal.
Adam already told me last Friday, when she went into hospice, that he wanted to say something at the mass. |

I'm sorry for your loss.
The wake/service will probably be amazing due to her ties to the police department. I really don't want to sound tacky, but to give a suggestion.......get a relative to take photos. Why? You will not recall everything that was done.
Prior to everything my cousin asked us if we'd like photos. I'm so glad my mom agreed to it. My father had an absolutely incredible wake/service. There were approximately 1,000 people that came to the wake. The police/fire depts had very nice tributes to him. From the police honor guard to the fire dept ladder display and the full escort we received to the cemetery. If we didn't have the photos we would of forgotten some of the smaller details that my cousin photographed.

Ginger, thank you for your reminder about photos...I am thinking that would be a nice tribute to DH's family; to get them some reminders of the day.
I'm hoping also his sister, who's a soprano for the NY Oratorio Society, will sing as well, but I don't think she will be able to handle it. She has been with her mom and dad for the last month, working out of a satellite office just to help out. She's wiped.
Crossing my fingers his cousin, Larry Campbell, will do a musical tribute. He was my MIL's nephew and is a a wonderful musician. |
