So I don't have a Smartphone. I don't need one. I'm online all day every day for work, I have no desire to have internet on my phone.
So some of the people I know, for instance, my BF's sister (who I think has a Droid), if he sends out a text message with multiple recipients, including her, whenever she replies, it goes to everyone he sent it to (sort of a Reply All, not just a Reply to Sender). So I keep getting random messages from the sister, when my BF sends us both the same text message.
And then for the longest time (although she seems to have fixed this), whenever she sends us text messages, our dumbphones consider them MMS messages even though there's no picture or anything.
Now, this morning, the sister sent out a text message invite to her 4th of July party, I assume it was sent to a large number of people and in response, I got an MMS message from someone I don't even know, I can only presume one of the sister's friends, in response to the sister's text invite.
This obviously does not happen with all of my friends. Can I just assume some of these people do not know how to use their smartphones? My sister has a Droid, it never happens with her.
Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone has experienced this and knows what they're doing wrong.

Yep...the iPhone requires a setting change that most users aren't aware of.

My iPhone doesn't do this. I've never changed anything in that regard, so it must have been pre-set. |

With my iPhone, if someone sends a text to multiple recipients, the replies go to everyone.

I don't see a setting to change this (I looked in Settings > Messages), other than to create a new text message for the one person I want to reply to. |

Melrose, where is the setting?
It's in settings, of course! Then choose messages.
If you have iOS4, turn off group messaging. If you have iOS5, turn off iMessage, group messaging & MMS.
The only "bad" thing I see is if you do want to send out a group message, then you have to reverse the above.

Thanks ... I was looking for a setting for replies; that's why I couldn't find it |
