So I cut up the 1st collection out of my stash and am starting to form layouts with it, but all I keep thinking about are the new collections out there that I need to buy to cut up
No, I'm not going to, I just put myself of a freeze today after buying this class. Lately I have gotten a few classes, adhesives, and a warehouse box... I have spent my budget for a long while and plan to keep going through these classes to use what I have, but I have to admit that I keep thinking it though!
Say I am not the only one thinking it?

I only haven't thought it because I have soooo many existing collections that I want to finally rip into first
With CHAs I do tend to buy at least some of each new October Afternoon and Basic Grey collections, and know this technique will do great with those.
I just got some OA Cakewalk at the LSS recently and I'm already planning to use that with Shimelle's technique soon. There are such pretty patterns in it along with pages to cut out the elements like the banners. Eeeee ... can't wait! |

No it has me looking through older papers for ones to cut up so that I can "use them while I still love them". It has also helped me to finally say goodbye to the Arctic Frog papers I was hoarding.

It makes me want to start cutting up some of the collections that I have bought and really want/need to use. I just printed out the PDF and really am excited to use my stash.

I stopped buying collection packs for the most part because I have too many that I only used one or two sheets of. I'm having too much fun pulling out old collections and cutting them and combining them with other old collections to be thinking about new stuff. But with all this room I am creating, I'll be keeping an eye on the new stuff coming at CHA this month! |

Hi Donna! The class about collection packs is The Perfect Collection, found here. It was originally part of the True Scrap 3 event this past spring but is now available as a standalone class for those who didn't want to do the full event.
So happy this concept is proving helpful - whether it's your existing stash or treating yourself to something new! Thanks so much. |

Actually, when I buy a new collection of papers, I sometimes hate to cut them because they're new! I usually do end up cutting though. |

Shimelle (or anyone who might know the answer),
If I sign up through your website, do I get a limited amount of time to access the class or is it accessible 'forever' once I pay?
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I didn't see it mentioned in the post you linked.
Thanks! |

Not a dumb question at all! All of my classes always have and always will include permanent access, including The Perfect Collection! (My annual classes that rerun every year include that too - sign up once and you're welcome to join in any or every year at no extra cost or effort.)
Thank you so much to all those who have supported my work by purchasing the class through my site. It means so very much to me. |

So here are my starting points...
The Perfect Collection - EP's Victoria Gardens
Those are so great! See, I would look at a Collection Pack like Victoria Gardens and not be able to imagine it ever looking so amazing on layouts. Thank you so much for sharing your starting points. I can't wait to see the finished pages!
I've watched the video but haven't been able to scrap with it yet. You make me want to get going even more than I already did! |

Ha ha. I admit I ordered it after I saw her using it too. Normally I don't think I would have bought it, but she made it look super yummy! |

I rarely buy collection packs. I only have about 3 or 4 of them laying around. With Shimelle's class, I took the one that I have had the longest and oh my goodness! I used it all up except a few of the paper embellishments. So for me, it does make me want to buy them more often but only because I know that I will use them now! I just finished my project tonight from Shimelle's class and I want to do it again except using papers that are not from a collection but putting it together from stuff I have laying around. Loved this class

Interesting last post---I don't buy a lot of collections so I haven't signed up for this class, though it sounds fascinating.
Do you think the class would work with a bunch of coordinating papers from different lines/manufacturers? Those I have plenty of! |

Mamashosh - the class would work with any collection of papers whether they are from the same collection or from a multitude of collections. The premise of the class is how to get the most out of those papers and provides a tried and tested method of doing so.
The thing I've notice the most through cutting up a collection pack (or collection of papers) and creating the starting points without particular photos in mind is that suddenly the papers take on a whole new look. Whereas in the pack they look say "Christmassy" suddenly cut up and out of the pack, they work with travel photos or baby pictures (to give examples).

ncgibbons - Your starting points and layouts are fantastic!
I got to spend several hours yesterday scrapping and instead of a collection pack, I used the MME Stella Rose stack that I picked up the other week. I used quite a bit of the original papers that I selected and cut up as well as pulling a few more as I went along. I was able to complete 1 full layout and have 5 others as starting points with photos and titles. I just need to go back and add embellishments and journaling.
So, Shimelle's class is helping me to dig out not only collections but some of the stacks I have stacked up!

Mamashosh, as for me, I didn't want to use a collection pack (I don't have lots of them, anyway), so, I choosed my favorite brand and picked among my scraps (as it was my favorite brand, I have lots of scraps, and lots of big scraps too !)... Every scrap was from the same brand and they matched not so bad.
Sometimes, I modified slightly the dimensions because of the dimensions of my scraps, but I mostly did exactly like Shimelle exlained.
Before assembling the layouts, I picked my photos and choosed among the scraps I have just cut the ones that matched the best. I love the result !
No regret for taking this class, even if on beginning, I was afraid because it seemed not to be "my style". I think it's a great idea for more inspiration, and for every style !
Unfortunately, I don't understand english when it is spoken (only written) and this class does't offer the pdf with transcription (except for the cutting part with dimensions), so I only watch the video and read the cutting pdf, but it was useful anyway.
If shimelle's classes were with pdf transcriptions like some others do, I would love to take others classes from her, because I loved this one !
Finally, I "premade" ten layouts (I mean with papers AND matching photos) very easily, without any sketch (I have a style very different from Shimelle's one, I love her layouts but I am more comfortable with more photos, etc, so I did it in my way), and now, I have to finish, but usually, I need much more time to do that !)
Thanks, Shimelle !

Cyriaque - it is only my True Scrap classes that don't have written content. That's model of their event - 30-40 minutes of video followed by a chat session in the live run. All my other classes are PDF-based, and when there are multiple speakers of a given language, they often start their own discussion thread so they can be a bit more comfortable too.
So glad you liked the video! |

Oh, thanks, wonderful ! I was so curious of "hitchicker" (is it the name ?) and some other classes, but I thought that I will "lose" a lot without understand what you say, only watching videos... If there are pdf, I will choose another new class from you because I love this one !
I also took the True Scrap about stamps (Nichol) but there was a pdf with it, so I believed that you never make pdf. |

I just bought this class last night and watched the video. I haven't cut anything up yet, but it really inspired me and gave me alot of great ideas to get the most from my paper collections. I don't have too many...well, no...maybe I do! lol But I would also like to try this with just a collection of papers of my choosing. I'm going to attempt to sit down right now and try this out with a collection stack I'm not "too" crazy about. I really do like it, but I've been stuck with what to do with it, so I'm going to see if this gives me some LO ideas. Like someone else posted, I'm a little scared to try this with one of my newer collections like say the Crate Storyteller...lol, so I'll do this one first and see how it goes! I did love the video and I love Shimelle's style...I have a teeny scrappy crush on her

I purchased the class a couple of days ago, watched the video and downloaded the PDF yesterday. I chose EP's Country Drive collection and started cutting it up according to Shimelle's dimensions. It was so liberating to cut up a whole collection without hesitation!
I have to say though, that I had such a hard time making starting point pages. I couldn't do it I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I never work with just one collection for my pages. I always mix it up.
I ended up not making starting point pages. I am just making the pages as I go along. I'm going to give the starting point pages another try. I am having a hard time making the pieces work together either way.
ncgibbons: I love your pages! I think it helps to see your starting point pages and the end results. Thanks for the inspiration! |

Add me to the list that just signed up for the class. Hope to make better use of some of my stacks & paper packs. I think this will be fab for the Pink Paislee paper packs that give you 24 sheets (4 of 6 different patterns), I have trouble using all those pages. |

I bought the class a few days ago and I just love it! I do agree with the above, I was a little hesitant to start assembling starting points, because I love to mix collections. I am trying to just "go for it" though with my designing process...I use to get so hung up on things and take forever to complete something. So, I went for it and it was totally inspiring and easy to get through & I love what i've done so far!
ncgibbons, your pages are fabulous & inspired me as well!

I had a terrible time with starting points too. I cut everything up and sat looking at it for an hour thinking wth did I do. LOL. I finally realized that the starting pieces reminded me of Allison Davis sketches so I got my sketches out and it seemed much easier for me. I have completed 6 LOs and two more starting points so far. I did have to modify a few cuts but I think doing it this way will work better for me.

I have a question about the class...how well does it transfer to other page sizes? I scrap 8.5x11, not 12x12. Last year I challenged myself to scrap as many of my Christmas pictures as I could with one EP Season's Greeting pack; I enjoyed the process and liked the pages, so this class intrigues me.
