I notice that whenever anyone posts an even slightly critical statement about Facebook, the backlash is swift and near unanimous. It seems to be one of the very few topics at TwoPeas that is not at all polarizing. You would be just as unlikely to generate supportive comments if you announced that you like to kick puppies for fun. I just find that interesting, how Facebook has become almost like a sacred part of our culture in such a short time.

I'm on the fringe man!! That seems to be normal for me though. I tried it and there are good things about it ( like the picture sharing ) but it seems to be filled with drama and quite a bit of teenage angst even from people who are not teenagers.

Even with the snark, trolls and spelling police you are a great group of ladies!

I don't have a love it or hate it relationship with facebook. I do check it more often than I wish I did. But facebook is one of those few things that can be exactly what you want it to be. Meaning, you can connect with people easily, or you can observe, or you can write a bunch of status updates, or play games, or read articles... and all those things are things you opt in to see (except the ads, I suppose) and if there's something you don't want to see anymore - you hide it.

I mostly use it as a place to communicate with people I met in another forum since we all decided to leave that forum. I'm on facebook all the time, but I rarely do status undates (maybe 6 a year) so I'm sure my real life friends have no idea I'm on it so much. My H only uses it once a month or so, but when he does he comments on everything. My dad uses it as a place to put his political opinion out there.

I think the "Facebook backlash" has to do with the fact that FB is purely optional fun. No one is making someone get a FB page, update their status and read about others' boring/wonderful/drama-filled life.

So when someone comes to the Pod complaining about FB, the natural response is "You do know you don't HAVE to be on there, right??"

I don't think it's just FB. I think, here at 2peas, if someone takes a stand against something - anything- you are going to find people who feel differently and say something about it.

I think this is close to what I think too, I don't understand why people are so invested in FB when they post about all the drama and other stuff it causes.

I have an account, I opened it to see pictures my friends posted. I have never posted a picture myself and I go months without checking it. That works for me

FB reminds me of when my kids were young and played board games. When they got mad or fought about it, it would seem it wasn't fun any more, so why play.

Meh. I think a bid part of the negative backlash to people not liking facebook here at 2 peas is because you get posters popping onto a thread about facebook, only to brag about how they'd never join facebook.

Nothing to contribute, just want to let people know how they are sooooo above it. Just a big ol "'look at meeee" comment.

I didn't get it from Lauren's thread. Facebook can be trite and banal. It can be drama filled and controversial, but it can also be fantastic and funny, useful and so on. It's a mixed bag.

Well Peas, I believe this thread has gone Thrusday.
