Before I start a vent I want to preface this post with the fact that up until point I have been supportive of PC and machines and tools I have purchased from them. Additionally, I love using both my CE2 and my Cameo (not PC, of course) as I see them as having good attributes that I will continue to use.

However, I am on my 5th, yes I said it, 5th Gypsy!!! The worst part of it is that I had to request a replacement for the one I just got back today! This is all in a little over one year. I really like it as a tool to use with the Cricut. There is so much that I can't do without it. I am certain that I have had refurbished replacements since I purchased the initial one brand new. (Pry marks on the cases, scratches, etc.) Ugh. I know...everyone hates PC already, but they have never argued with me or blamed me for any damage. Yet, I don't know that they really are trying to make it better. KWIM?

Did this make me feel better...dunno. I was just super bummed after not having a working one for about a month to have to wait again for my shipment to arrive to them, them to test it/replace it and wait for shipping time back to me. Anyhow, such is life I suppose.

This does not encourage me...mine is dying and I actually like the thing too! Oh well, using it tonight which the power at least works intermittently.

I'm not a Cricut person (Cameo user), but i was looking for some information for their TOU and there was a thread about how they (PC) are working to improve things. Kind of a Q and A thread. However, after reading it, I was less than impressed with the responses. I think they got in way over their heads with all the product releases for years, and didn't prepare for the support they'd need for the customer, and now they're paying for it. I know many people use and love the Cricut product, but now with all the competion with the Cameo, eClips, and other machines, I hope they get there act together for the sake of the customer....and all their employees. It would suck to have all those people out of a job.
Anyway, hope you get it resolved soon.

I bought my Gypsy at launch and it lasted until last year after one of their software upgrades it killed my gypsy. I called and they replaced it for free and though I did not believe them, they returned it within 2 weeks. My new Gypsy worked fine until their last to software upgrades now I can see glitches in it, but I still love the little guy and hope it hangs on. I use it daily and I own about 200 carts, so I'm in deep though I have a Cameo too. My replacement was brand new, They shouldn't have given you a refurbished one especially if the records show how often its been replaced. That's terrible service.

Had mine since launch. LOVED IT!! Note the past tense. I got the black screen of death about 3 months ago. Out of warranty, out of luck!! Would get another if I could find it for the right price. Read cheap!

I am so sorry you're having this trouble. I hope you get a new replacement that works! I agree when I had an E, the gypsy was the best part.

Mine died about 6 weeks ago. It was basically a paper weight anyways but it still makes me mad since it was hardly used. Just got the black screen one day. I have no idea which of my carts are attatched to it

I've had my Gypsy for two years. I've never had any problems with it, and I use it almost daily. I love my Gypsy. I wonder if there was a production "batch" that so many just ended up with. Sorry you're having problems. I would definitely be discouraged.

The gypsy is the only thing I miss after switching to the Cameo. I hate that gypsies are having so many problems now. At the rate Provocraft is going, I really wonder if they can hang on and rebuild their company. So sad.

I have one of the first Gypsy's released. Got it when introduced on HSN as the TSV. The USB connection on my Gypsy broke a couple of months back. I e-mailed PC and was told they can't fix it or replace my Gypsy. They said I could get someone to fix it but it amy cost me more. I would have to buy a new one and send BOTH to them so they can transfer the cartridges to the new one. The problem with buying a new one, it's not easily found. I really LOVED using my Gypsy!!

My response to PC was, "you gotta be freakin' kidding me?" So now I have a paperweight and a Cricut Imagine that isn't cutting. Not a happy girl....

I know what you are saying. I feel almost crippled running my CE2 without it. DH took it to Fed Ex yesterday to have it shipped off. I wish they would have incorporated the features of the Gypsy in the CE2. I should it would have ticked off Gypsy owners, but if they aren't going to produce quality handhelds, why not?

Mine died too. It suffered from the "black screen of death". It was only a few weeks out of warranty. I argued successfully that they knew of the glitch and it was only a matter of time before all Gs died. They agreed to replace my G, but would not allow me to reload the free ones they gave as a bonus when I registered. I was bummed but I agreed.

I have hundreds of dollars of Provocraft products and how this company continues to be in business, I have NO IDEA.

Just when I think that their customer service couldn't get worse, they somehow manage to find a way.

I'm afraid to do any more updates since I've heard about updates killing Gypsies. I had to have my first one replaced, and I don't think it was refurbished. My first one was still under warranty when it stopped working. I have enough points to purchase a Gypsy through the Rewards program, if they still have it available when/if my Gypsy dies. I can use just the cartridges, of course, but I can do so much more with the Gypsy. I don't like Cricut Craft Room. My Gypsy is more convenient for using with the Cricut. I already have an electronic cutter that requires the computer (a Gazelle), and which I love, but I would be sad if my Gypsy died and I couldn't replace it. I have a lot of cartridges, but I can get a lot more use out of them with the Gypsy than without it.

It's really sad that Provo Craft has had so many quality control issues.

Good news (I think) on my Gypsy. DH, who is a computer nerd from way back, took it apart first to see if my inability to keep the power flowing (battery won't recharge, and on a/c power it drops out if I bump it even a little) was related to a loose or sloppy connection. All's well inside. On a whim, I ordered at 99 cent power cord/recharger on eBay. So far, it appears to have fixed the problem! Oh would that it remains this easy! Funny thing is, the eBay seller was a typical kinda eBay name--girl's name with some numbers I think. When I paid on Paypal, turned out my payment went to ProvoCraft & Novelty. Bwa ha ha. Methinks they're cleaning out the Gypsy warehouse!

I'm on my 4th. I will say they have always replaced them and the last one (#3 came from them broken) they ended up giving me a replacement and a $30 credit.

I barely touch the new one for fear of it breaking. I swear that they break with a dirty look. I'm glad I waited and "only" paid $99 for it at M's on Thanksgiving 2010.

My gypsy died and it really devastated me. PC claims it probably was from lack of use. This doesn't make sense at all. I use it every 3 months or so. I work full time, but really enjoy having this hobby. I have over 50 cartridges and hundreds of designs were saved on my gypsy. I have been searching all over the internet to learn more about if there is a way to fix the black screen of death to no avail. What I have learned is that this has happened to ALOT of PC owners. When I contacted PC, they stated it was not under warranty, so I'd have to buy a new one. I tried out CCR, frankly it sucks and they still haven't come out with a way to link your existing cartridges if they have been linked to the G. Maybe I'm spoiled from all the convenience that I once had with having all my cartridges in one place and being able to weld, make unique cards, etc. When it works, it is great, but now with so many failed Gs out there, I really don't want to spend all that $$ to get a new one when it looks like they won't be carrying it much longer & mine didn't last that long. I'm disappointed that PC is not standing behind their product and finding ways to make it better. When so many switched from PC, I stayed. Now I feel lost. I am so invested in PC, thousands of $$ later, I'm really sad for all PC owners, as my research shows its just a matter of time.

Well, I notice they no longer have the Gypsy available to buy with reward points.

So I guess if mine ever dies, I am just out of luck. I will still be able to cut the images, but it will be less convenient. If I have to go to using my computer more, it won't be to use the pathetic Cricut Craft Room. I'll just use my Gazelle more again, the way I used to when I had more time to design my own cutting files.

I've just liked being able to take my Gypsy and Cricut to crops. I've also liked the convenience of files ready to cut instead of designing my own. And I like some of the designs on the cartridges, which is the big reason I bought a Cricut. I liked their designs better than the Silhouette store's designs. I have a Wishblade, so I could just buy designs from their store, but I'm not that crazy about most of them.

I haven't liked most of the more recent cartridges released, though, so I've stopped buying cartridges. I have no interest in the Cricut mini or the Imagine. I think Provo Craft is on a crash course to oblivion if they can't get their act together. Happy customers are the best advertising for any business. Tick your customers off, and you risk losing not just your customers, but many potential future customers.

Whoever is running Provo Craft has made some really stupid business decisions.

I am so sorry to hear this. When I had a cricut, the best part of using it was the gypsy. In fact, now that I have changed cutters, the only thing I miss is my gypsy. If I could hook it up to my cameo, I would be in heaven.

However, I am on my 5th, yes I said it, 5th Gypsy!!!

That's totally frustrating!

I have been fortunate not to have these problems with mine. I hardly ever use mine and I'm thinking about selling it. It has about 80 plus carts linked to it. Where would be a good place to do that, and for how much? I'm not selling the carts with it. Yes I am aware of controversy about doing this without my carts. I still use my Cricut.

I am another Gypsy lover.
I got mine early on from HSN.
I am hoping that it doesn't kick the bucket on me.
I live in fear of the dreaded "black screen" every time I turn it on.
I hardly ever use my Expression without using my Gypsy.

I have a gypsy that I bought when they first came out. I've loaded all my carts on to it. I have made one cut with it and that's it. I think I've turned it on many four times. Never got the hang of it.

I think I will sell it and buy a Cameo. I don't go to crops so I'm thinking I don't need it.

*sigh* I got the black screen last week. My gypsy is dead, I tried everything but no success. I read that you needed to update frequently to prevent this from happening but after the fact. I wish PC had notified us of this issue before it was to late. What a waste of money. I am glad that cricut craft room seems to do the same thing as my gypsy. If you have a gypsy, UPDATE!!! I can't say I'd recommend that someone buy a used one at this point, it's too unpredictable and I think they stopped making them so you can't replace it.

If it's any consolation, I have a working Gypsy but never use it since the advent of Cricut Craft Room....I find this soooo much easier. I am just frustrated that they haven't made it so that you can link any cartridges to CCR that were linked to your Gypsy! They say they're working on it but that's been for the last YEAR!

I love my Gypsy but don't use my PC products as often due to having my Cameo. I haven't updated my Gypsy in a long time since hearing about all the problems it has caused. I think I only have 2 carts not linked because I won't update. I will be very sad when it dies. I too have one of the originals from the HSN launch.

I have had mine since the beginning but last week it says not connected .I was bidding on ebay and thought if I buy one it could happen again and I miss it so bad .I never use the cartridges so I am crying but I bought a cameo and it is coming tomorrow .With that being said no wonder they are having money trouble .I am sorry for the workers but a company like that can't keep going

Can you guy the gypsy anywhere now? Mine died and I really don't like using my cricut without it. I actually had to THINK about how to use it b/c I bought the gypsy with it when I bought the cricut. I looked online and they don't see to be selling anywhere. Have they discontinued these?

If you can craft near a computer you can use Cricut Craft Room for free. It requires internet.

Once my G dies I'm switching to a Cameo.

I am in a nightmare with this gypsy and I can't get out. I have the number to the support people memorized! I have been trying to update my gypsy for 2 days! Now customer support tells me that I have to upgrade my Internet which will cost me more money every month so I can do the frequent upgrades required by the gypsy. In hind sight, I would never buy this piece of s^#t.

This thread is almost a year old. However, I want to address one recent reply:

Ruffinator, you shouldn't have to upgrade your Internet in order to update your Gypsy, unless you have dial up. That might be too slow.

They tried to tell me that my antivirus software was the problem. It wasn't, and I knew it. I tried to explain why that could NOT be the case, but the CS gal just kept repeating over and over the same thing, that it was my antivirus software.

The problem is probably all the CTMH customers who just got the Artbooking cartridge (which was released at the beginning of the month) and are trying to update. Their system is probably overloaded & can't handle the extra traffic.

Wait a few days and try again. Also, if you don't have the Imagine, uncheck any downloads that apply to that (it will take longer for the Gypsy to update if you do Imagine updates, too).

I will be getting the Artbooking cartridge next month, and I am dreading having to do an update. It is always an enormous headache. It can easily take a couple of hours, and you think it is just hung up. If it takes longer than 6 hours, I disconnect (even though it says not to), and try again the next weekday. Weekends are the absolutely worst time to try to update.

I Really loved my Gypsy and used it a lot but the various problems worried me. Luckily you can link your Gyspy loaded carts to the craft room now, so at least they are "safe". However I'm so glad I have my wonderful new Cameo!

I linked one oft gypsys to my circuit account but talk about problems!!!! It took hours to fix the gypsy after it stalled and crashed. Now I find out I can't link my other gypsy to the same account. I have to create another account and call into provocraft to switch the registration. And you just know that phone call will take hours! So, I haven't and might not bother.

Totally over circuit now. Too bad.

Update from last September...I finally received my 5th Gypsy in October of last year only after I called and told them I had never received the one the shipped out in September. I JUST loaded all my carts on it last week, because I was so frustrated. It is updated and ready to go on my crop with me. (I'm taking my Gypsy and my Cameo. My friends already have the Cricut, so I won't need to pack it.)

I have only poked around CCR a couple of times and am not sure if I am going to link up there. Is it the same software as the Gypsy? Can I do all of the same editing of images?

I'm officially SCARED!

I never thought about it breaking until reading this. Mine is one of the first too...oh no..like so many of you, I have about 100 carts on it and HATE using the cricut alone. I like to do all the welding, mixing of fonts, etc and actually have NEVER used my Expression without the Gypsy. I will be SO TICKED OFF if it breaks and they cannot/will not fix it! I don't want to use CCR, as I do not want to be tied to a computer during my play time, as I am in my work!

That really stinks that you have had so many problems with it and they continue to send you used ones! I sold mine because I could never understand how to work it. It always made me feel stupid! I am happy I sold it when I did and I can still use my cricut with the carts I have. I also bought a cameo for all of the other things I need. It is the best of both worlds!

meowgal- I have the Original Gypsy too. She has never broke on me. She is still going strong. Knock on wood. Don't be scared. I heard ProvoCraft has a Gypsy repair program now. I don't know much about it. I don't keep up on the Cricut world any more unless one of my friends tells me some gossip.

minna40- CCR is a lot like the Gypsy.
