A lot of the Hallmark stores around me have gone out of business. We were near one today and I was wondering how they stay in business anymore. Cards, wrap, party decor, and little gifts can be found everywhere now.
The only thing they have that I can't find just everywhere is the ornaments. Even some drug stores have limited selections of those though.
Do you still shop at Hallmark stores? What do you buy there if you do?

No WAY too expensive. Unfortunately I can get cards at the Dollar store for less and I just can't see spending $6 for gift wrap that ends up in the garbage 2 minutes later. That kills me.

There is also one or 2 in every mall I shop. (I'm including the out of town/day trip malls.)
What do you buy there if you do?
Cards. Ornaments. Some gifts. A specialty calendar that dh likes. Wrapping paper if I can find nice ones on clearance. Specialty items that are area specific.

My daughter and I go once a year for our annual Christmas Ornament. That's it. Otherwise, it's far too expensive.

Luckily there is one less than 2 minutes from my house. I'm collecting a Christmas series, and I get yearly ornaments for the boys. They're also locally owned, and I like supporting local businesses.

No. I hate to pay $$ for cards but if I do have a buy a really nice one it rarely is from there. I think the closest Hallmark is about 20 minutes from me. I think most of their merchandise is really cookie cutter and overpriced.

The one here went out of business last year after Christmas. The last thing I bought there was two boxes of old fashioned boxed stationary for my mother.

I did last year for my parent's 50th. They had a nice selection of cards, glasses, and plates. Can't find that anywhere else. I also got some gift paper and the total came close to $100. Yikes.

Rarely - 2 to 3 times a year, tops.
I buy their miniature ornaments every year. Ours sometimes has cute, different gifts. I once bought a Yankee Candle there because I didn't feel like driving twice as far to BB & B.

Generally just once or twice a year. I get DH the football series ornaments for Christmas every year. I also check to see if there is one that I think one of the kids would like. But, as the kids have gotten older, they have sort of grown out of the Hallmark ornaments. I also go right after Christmas and stock up on paper and any additional ornaments/decorations that I like when it goes on sale.

There are a few left in my area. I stop in there about once a month or so.
They have a lot of cute, whimsical type items. Great for gifts, or home decor.
I do not purchase cards, gift wrap stuff, or ornaments there, because I can find it cheaper elsewhere.

I buy some ornaments. Granted I used to always go after they were marked down after Christmas but I rarely go in their the rest of the year.

I don't make my own cards so I do shop at Hallmark. We recently went from 3 stores to 1 in my town. The one that's left is the largest and I think it does fine. Believe it or not, I used to buy the kids' Crocs there! They stopped carrying them. I don't buy wrap there, and I often buy my cards at Target too.

Yes. Love them. I buy cards, ornaments, purses, tshirts, trinkets etc etc. it is like a small boutique.

The local store is very large. It has a Vera Bradley section that is quite large, home decor, outdoor decor, clothing, jewelry, a cooking section, novelties, children's section, cards, gift wrap, etc.
It's a nice store that I hope stays in business.

There is only one Hallmark that I like to shop in anymore, but not as much as I use to. It seems like either the smaller stores have closed or not updated the store in over 20 years.
I still like Hallmark ornaments, but that is probably because we always let the kids pick them out every year when they were little. I like the Barbie, Pez or Mr Potato Head Hallmark ornies, so I still try to look for those.

Pretty much only for ornaments. I collect quite a few of the series. I'm disappointed as they have discontinued Barbie this year, but I understand that was a Mattel decision, so not their fault. I make most of my cards, and giftwrap/bags, etc, I can get way cheaper elsewhere. I did notice our local store is going to start carrying Vera Bradley.

I've become a wrapping paper snob and shop Hallmark for their paper. I can't stand cheap paper that's see through, tears easily and just looks sloppy. When I wrap a gift I want it to look nice and be covered, so I buy the Hallmark stuff. A roll costs me 9 bucks but lasts a lot longer than the dollar store roll that takes three layers to cover the gift properly.

It's nice to have gifts on hand.

I collected Hallmark ornaments when my daughter was small and shopped there regularly back then. Not so much now. I no longer collect the ornaments and I find most of their stuff to be way overpriced. If I'm out and about and have the time, I might browse but that's about it. All of our Hallmark stores are still in business, though, and seem to be doing well.

Sometimes. But I'm really digging Papyrus cards right now so my money goes to them for cards more often than not.
Can't beat Hallmark for ornaments though. Plus our local Hallmarks (we have two in a five mile radius) put out decent coupons fairly frequently so I go in there to snag a few birthday cards for the kids' friends' birthday presents.

I was just in a Hallmark store last week. It's really changed. Much of their stuff is overpriced. I don't shop for cards there anymore because I either make them myself or buy them at Target. They have a few unique gifts but it seems like they are priced on the high side. It's never very crowded and I wouldn't be surprised if it closed eventually.

Yes I do but only fall/winter.
One of my DDs collects the Barbie ornaments for herself and for my DGD. We are all sad that this is the last year for Barbie. They are lovely.
I give DD1 the Peanuts ornament every year for her November birthday. She has always loved A Charlie Brown Christmas.
I almost always purchase a nativity ornament for myself every year. I also might stop in there if I have a "special" event to shop for like a 50th wedding anniversary, etc.
I love Hallmark but agree that they're too expensive for day to day shopping.
We have several here. I don't think any have closed in recent years.

We used to have three Hallmark stores and are now down to one and there are fewer retailers who carry Hallmark in their stores. I don't go there, except around Christmas to buy a few of the ornaments which I still collect.

No, not really. For one, there aren't too many around anymore. And it is easy to pick up a card when I am at Target.

I stopped going to them once I had kids.
The ones are around here are really too tightly packed to maneuver a stroller around, and definitely too tightly packed for me to want to try bringing a hand-held child in.
Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, that does.
I'd guess that I've been in one maybe 6 to 10 times in the last 10 years....and typically only if I have no kids with me.

I don't go there very often and have never been an ornament collector. Since it is so close to the Dollar Store near my sister's house,(15 minutes from her house), I go there to get a card or two if I need it. I know some people who check to see if the cards are from Hallmark, believe it or not.
