I don't think you are going to get a lot of positive responses from the Peas.

Well I didn't read all the links. But I took a couple classes from her about 3 years ago I think here in central Virginia and really enjoyed the class and her as a teacher. We made a canvas album and I used techniques I never used before- it wasn't cheap but I didn't regret it. The next day we did an acrylic album I didn't like as much but still had a nice time.

Before the debacle here regarding her I took a class from her. Cost $80; she shmoozed and told stories. Her teaching consisted of promoting her fabric paper and telling us to follow the insert provided in the class kit.

Had no idea she was contoversial.

Did a class a few years ago, she's a little wild in class, like putting a condom on a heat gun.
But I thought as a whole the class was good and useful.

All the best Donna Downey threads get deleted.

I'm talking epic, 20 page NSBR threads of greatness.

If you see any of the badges with a bird licking a pole in the signature areas, that was from the last DDD (pea code for Donna Downey Debacle).

This is the huge thread.

I wouldn't give DD my garbage much less my hard earned money.

I took some classes from her a few years ago and really enjoyed them. Guess I am the odd ball. I just couldn't afford to take the classes this weekend in San Antonio.

Guess it was more than a few years ago. Probably 2006. Seems like that was before all the hate erupted.

Yes, no and no.

I took a class from her a looooong time ago. Back when she was still a simple scrapper...maybe even when she was with SS?

In the class I took she spent a lot of time talking about her great scrapping abilities and ideas and NONE on teaching. She was all over the place.... industry, what she wanted to do, off shoots, etc. She talked about herself, her family, her scrapping friends. When people had questions about the actual project we were making she referred them to the instruction sheet.

That's not teaching, that's self promotion.

OMG. What the... you OVERpay $15 for a cheap paintbrush, go to the effort of altering it, and then send it to them to display? In the bathroom? Above the toilet?? What the hell.

I did several years ago and while I loved the project, she didn't "teach" it. It was like others said - more like lots of chatting and schmoozing. I was disappointed in her personally, but think she's talented. That being said, after the hot mess that took place, I don't buy her products and wouldn't go to an event sponsored by her.

I had to chuckle at the thread title.

I did take a class once and it was $80 for her idea and the chipboard, spine and some cardstock. The class was "bring your own paper and paint".

And I WAS going to Inspired one year and sold my spot and {innocently} set off a frenzy.....

Scoobers, so glad to hear about Pe@ce.

There's a part of me that would love to do this and make some gory blood and guts dripping brush and *insist* on seeing a picture of it on her wall.

Or one with a nice, happy design that says, "Don't think you can brush it away!"

I've not taken a class w. Donna D, but wanted to say that some of the responses here are so funny. The bathroom art was out there - I kept expecting that she was going to alter a toilet-bowl brush. You gals gave a fun start to my morning. OP, hope you enjoy your class if you take one. Maria

I've never taken one of her classes and never, ever will. I saw some of her products at HL the other day (didn't even pay attention to what the product was). As soon as I saw her name I cringed and kept on walking.

I simply can't afford Donna anymore..the cost of events, classes, even the stuff on her blog..just can't.

I also can't afford stuff for Tim either,,classes..although if he had an event that was priced decently,,I would save a year to do!!

So I continue to look for the new up and coming artist that are just getting started follow them until they get out of my spending range(sigh) It's like a cycle good and not so great kwIm?

I took her class at a CKC years ago and it was on mini albums, which I rarely do, because they aren't my thing and I had a fun time and she was nice. She gave plenty of materials and the guide was easy to follow.

That brush thing is crazy. Why in the world would someone pay 15.00 for a paintbrush to decorate and send back to her? What is the matter with people? Are people that desperate for attention? Wow. The sad thing is all the people validating her swelled ego by participating. Crazy!

To me, the brush is like buying a brick in your hometown with your name on it to be placed in a walkway, monument, etc. Just a simple, fun way of saying, "I was here in your studio and had an amazing weekend, thanks for the fun and inspiration!"

I bought a brush, I haven't decorated it, yet, but I will! It represents my time at her studio, where I met an amazing group of ladies that I still keep in touch with (almost daily) through FB.

I've run into a couple of her things that I liked recently at my LSS. I refuse to purchase any of her stuff, though, knowing everything that's gone down here. Hearing what a craptastic teacher she is (which doesn't surprise me in the least) just reinforces that decision...

To each their own, but having a brick in your hometown that you can see (and is typically a fund raiser) is different than paying a supposed famous person 15.00 so you can decorate a paintbrush for her to hang in her bathroom which you will never get to see.

Maybe my opinion is tainted by what a horrible person I think she is.

To be fair, she is sharing them on her blog so you can see your brush in its place of honor. I wonder if they hung any of them where someone actually using the toilet can sit facing forward and look at them. Or do they have to twist themselves around on the pot to see them?

Nienie didn't even showcase a lot of the "donated" projects on her blog so I guess at least DD is doing that.

I was simply responding to the OP about my experience with Donna and her classes. I went to her studio for a retreat where she and Christy Tomlinson taught classes for several days. I had an amazing time, Donna and Bill are wonderful hosts, and the ladies I met through that event were inspiring and talented. This is my opinion, perspective, and experience with Donna.

Regarding the brush - I think it's a fun idea and obviously there are many others that do, as well. You're so right - to each their own.

No experience with her, but to be honest...the altered brush project is very very cool. At least she gave credit where the inspiration came from and didn't claim it as her own.

Not a fan of DD.

Will never ever purchase anything she does or makes.

But I gotta' give her props. From a quick count of the brushes on that wall, she's already made a hot grand {probably more} for hanging other people's awesome art in her loo. By the time she covers the walls, she'll have enough for another studio makeover!

I am still not done reading... My goodness is that crazy. What is interesting to me is that I was in the inspired Yahoo group and I remember seeing that nasty post and thinking to myself "Good grief who is this horrible human being?" I was so tempted to write a response but I was afraid of retribution. Then, I heard a little about it on FB and there was a link to the thread. I was just so busy coordinating 2 swaps that I didn't really know the extent of it. Now that I'm reading the peas thread, and I'm so entertained by Pea power and OMG - Donna and Kandi's posts. Holy moly. I went to 2 inspireds and enjoyed the workshops immensely but was super unimpressed with the DD and Co. I felt like they nickled and dimed us for EVERYTHING. I could not believe she was selling her aprons for $50 right in front of registration among a bunch of other stuff that that was jaw-dropping expensive. I was soooooooo irritated and that is why I didn't go to the 3rd. I made so many awesome friends there but even the enticement of seeing them wouldn't get me there. I didn't go based on the principle - I felt like she was "Swipper" from Dora the Explorer but not as cute or subtle. I so WANTED to like her because she had all the ingredients for awesome workshops that were way beyond CKU but her narcissism was too much for me.
