WELCOME TO THE OCTOBER 2012 CALENDAR GIRLS THREAD!!! Fall and Halloween are definitely in the air!
October is a time for reflection before the rush of Christmas. October is also a month of some very unique holidays and events including: World Vegetarian Day, Name your Car Day, Virus Appreciation Day (What? How exactly does one appreciate a virus, pray tell...lol Come and take it Day, Bald and Free Day, Moldy Cheese Day (Yuck!!!), No beard Day, Babbling Day, and finally, Increase your physic abilities day.
We are so glad that you joined us this month and hope that you will feel free to participate with the Calendar Girls, we love sharing our hobby and lives with new friends.
HERE ARE THIS MONTH'S CHALLENGES
SCRAPLIFT CHALLENGE - by Jan
****************************
I love to go back and revisit the galleries of some of the Calendar Girls who we don't see much. Remember Lori (tyme2scrap)? I found this great page in her gallery. I love the masculine colors and the stellar design! Let's see how you interpret it.
SKETCH CHALLENGE - by Toni
**************************
Please use one of the following sketches as inspiration:
TECHNIQUE CHALLENGE - by Linda
*******************************
For this month's challenge, let's sand the edges of a photo. See below.
Thank you for this image www.hip2bsquarescrapbooking.com/.../Tutorial-Tuesdaye28093Distr
CARD CHALLENGE - by Linda
************************
Since Halloween is this month, let's make a Halloween Card. This example is by Nina B. Check it out!!!
BOOKMARKS CHALLENGE - by Theresa
*********************************
The object of this challenge is to use the layouts that you've been adding to your Bookmarks. You know that you liked them, but how often do you remember to use them as inspiration to make your own?
For this month's challenge, use the 10th layout of the first page of your Bookmarks. It's up to you to decide if the "first" page is the latest page you've added or the very first page. Let any part of the layout inspire you, use it as a sketch or just the colors or the theme, let the layout decide! You'll be amazed what it will do on its own.
A very important part of this challenge is that you should send a message to the Pea that inspired you. It will brighten their day! Also, add a link to their LO in the information section or the comment section. Please be very specific about identifying that you lifted that Pea, we don't want to have any hurt feelings by not giving credit where credit is due.
STASH CHALLENGE - by Monica B.
*****************************
With fall in the air, be inspired by something outdoorsy. You could use leaf or acorn embellishments on your page. Or you could be inspired by texture in nature with wood grain, floral, or honeycomb patterned paper. Maybe add a bird or owl sticker to your project. Be inspired by this time of year by digging into the nature-themed items in your stash!
DIGI CHALLENGE - by Debi
***********************
With October comes Halloween, well for those in the states. I love to dress up and pretend to be someone else for the day; I should really have gone into acting. So whether you celebrate Halloween or not, I challenge you to make a page about SOMEONE YOU WANT TO BE FOR A DAY (It can be whimsical, serious, a past/current costume, or a documentary about someone you admire/emulate or has influenced your life). Now to make it interesting add BRUSHES (digi)/ STAMPING (paper) and if you're really motivated add a SONG/POEM/QUOTE. Now GO BE SOMEONE ELSE!
OCTOBER DOUBLE RECIPE CHALLENGE
**********************************
Since it's October, design a page with a pumpkin recipe using only fall colors such as orange, purple, golds, dark reds, dark greens. Use a fall embellishment and one fall stamp somewhere on the page.
HERE ARE YOUR OCTOBER TUTORIALS!!

Oh, off to a slow start this month, are we? Linda, the LO for the scraplift challenge isn't showing for me
Nothing much going on here. It's school holidays, so everyone is a bit more relaxed even though Heinrich and I still have to work. It is just SO MUCH EASIER getting just myself ready than hounding the kids too. It means an extra hour in the morning
Realised again today SA is still a third-world-country in a lot of ways. There was some big strike in Johannesburg and the result was ALL ATM's; for ALL banks in the country were down for the weekend! Sounds impossible, right? And I had to get money deposited into my credit card for the 1st of the month. Had to brave the queues in the bank this afternoon with 4 boys in tow - utter chaos - as the ATMs still aren't accepting money. Now I'm trying to calm my frazzled nerves with a bit of retail therapy but SC can't seem to process my order. Ugh, just not my day... Or maybe it's a sign I shouldn't spend anything now... Nah! it's just bad luck, lol.
Debi - I'm sure the referee had some vested interest with the other team. You just don't call everyone back once they've left the field?! Sorry to hear you are feeling sore again. And the lip sounds hoorendous. Something like that is not all that obvious to others, but it feels the size of a pumpkin on your face. Kinda like when you've been to the dentist...
Theresa - I'm a bit jealous of you watching all those shows this weekend. We still don't have a TV and I'm missing all the good entertainment. Been spending way too much time on the internet. Miss Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, House, etc.
Dedra - a 'new' old CG! Hi! I've been around for almost a year now and love these gals. Please join in the chatter - the more the merrier.
Talking of more - where is Diana? Haven't seen her in ages. Yoo Hoo! Did you get that full time job, then?
Monica - it must have been sad saying goodbye to your brother. It's half-way across the country, isn't it? I was devastated when my brother left to live in England (we're very close too) and I didn't even see him all that often as we were living in diff cities anyway. It's just different when the seperation is so 'official'. You do adjust
That crop sounds like a lot of fun. A whole weekend of scrapping - heaven! I see a posting flood coming up!
Ruan wants the computer AGAIN for Moshi monsters. I'm really going to get him his own one at this rate Okay, it'll be better to just have DHs fixed. Something to do with the powersupply, I think. Debi - don't you wanna come over and check, lol?
Toni - you seem to be having the bad luck with cars Valerie, Debi and I had earlier this year. Hope you get it sorted soon. It is so difficult when everyone needs to be in different places at diff times. I feel as though my hands have been chopped off when my car isn't working. The whole 'loss of independance' doesn't do it for me.

CHECKBOX IS UP
Linda, please don't think I'm complaining, 'cause I couldn't post what you and Tina do each month, but I, too, can't pull up the scraplift and I can't get the tutorial at the end of the post to work. No rush.............you see how quickly I've jumped on the challenges the past 2 months!!!!! I'm lucky if I get one done each month. Just to let you know, sweet friend. And thank you for the time you have taken to see that this thread gets posted!
Em's baby comes tomorrow, so I have to prepare today for having her girls overnight and on and off during the week. I need to have my Cub stuff all prepared and ready to go tomorrow afternoon so we can run to the hospital right after. Can you tell I'm excited?
Jan, I really miss your morning check-ins! How are those grandchildren doing? What's keeping you busy. Drop us a line if you get a chance.
Toni, so sorry about another car. I wish you lived close enough and I'd loan you mine. I hope this is a quick and inexpensive fix. When you live where there is no public transportation, a car is not a luxury, it's a necessity. And an expensive one at that!
Debi, sorry about the game. Sounds fishy to me.
Theresa, we are involved in a similar fund raiser here for our 17 year old cancer patient. I sat with her twin sister at Church yesterday and she asked me to help her make a scrapbook for Rachel. They used to come scrap with me in the summers. She and her mom will be returning from St. Jude's in 10 days. We have bought all the yellow ribbon in town and want big bows and signs on every tree in the Ward. Our Ward is only 1 square mile, so it will be a bright entrance into her neighborhood when they arrive.
I'll be back later to chat. I still have to finish my quilt today if possible. Not that a tiny baby will need a crib quilt for a while, but I do need to get the bias binding on.
Hugs to all you guys! You are the best! |
-Nylene

Good morning gals...
Thanks Linda for posting challenges; I'll get mine to you today. Didn't know who to send it to and wasn't getting an answer when I asked.
MICHELLE symptoms of a power supply going out is Computer NOT turning on, Getting a Blue Screen of Death, Computer shutting down or restarting randomly, fan not working causing overheating and shut-downs or system starts to power up then freezes. I'd love to come and change it out for you but the cost would be much too high due to travel costs. LOL You can do it yourself. A power supply (the little box with the fan in it for a desktop) isn't hard to replace. 3-4 little screws on the outside of the case and 1-2 connectors that plug into the motherboard. Just be careful to ground yourself before working on the interior of the computer so you don't create a static electricity charge. Take the old one into the computer parts shop to get the right one (having the make, model of computer helps too as it can be looked up on-line). You can do it, fairly cheaply and much less expensive than having a tech do it or buying a new computer. If you have concerns, you can always find a YouTube video showing you the steps. I'm sure there must be one for changing your power supply unit.
NYLENE we'll be waiting for a post about EM and the baby any minute. Don't keep us waiting now...take your camera.
Ok I need to get running...list is longer than the time I have to do it.

Linda - I sent the Stash challenge to you via peamail last night. Sorry it's late... been busy & have a lot on my mind.
Back from the hotel scrapbook retreat today. I managed to finish 9 layouts, which is great for me! I got a great start on my Oregon summer pictures. I will upload a few layouts at a time so I don't flood the gallery! It was a really fun & relaxing weekend. But I am sooo happy to get to sleep in my OWN bed tonight |

Hey Sweet Peas!
I just went back to catch up on some praise and chatter from the last few days. We had a super busy weekend, Olivia was home for her first visit since she left for school and we had Grif's birthday party. We also did our family trip to the orchard that we do every year since O wanted to be here for it. It was such a nice weekend!
(Ron's Mom no showed for Grif's birthday party...not a huge surprise. Thankfully, he didn't even seem to notice, so that was good.)
Toni - I'm sooo sorry that you all are having car issues, that stinks. I hope you are able to get it fixed soon, Larry will probably think it's a drag to have to drive you and Meg around for too long.
Nylene - Can't wait to see the sweet baby photos! Hope you have fun keeping your other little sweeties. You are the bestest Grandma ever. I still wish you lived near me, I'd add my kids to your collection of grandkids.
Theresa - I'm sorry that the HR person didn't reverse the action against you. Does your area have a shortage of nurses? There are always tons of nursing jobs available here, I would hope that it won't be too hard to get another job that you would like.
Dedra - It's good to know that you are still secretly checking in. Stop by and post more often, we miss having you hang out.
Well, I'm off...time to watch The Voice. Have a happy evening!

Good morning, Girls!
Thanks, Linda, the scraplift pic is showing. That was quick!
Debi - thanks for the info on the power supply. It's switching on but not booting. Still powersupply? I can ask my brother too. He fixed my work computer. Just need to get it to him. He lives on the other side of town, so we don't see each other very often. Especially since he has a new girlfriend, lol.
Tina - sounds as if your weekend was busy and fun. Happy belated birthday to Grif. We used to go to a cherry orchard every year when we were kids. We should really take our bunch too. It's a lot of fun. Hmm, there is a great strawberry place not too far away too. You've given me some ideas!
Monica - glad you had fun. Flood away, please! I had my chance... and I'm with you on sleeping in your own bed. There is just nothing like it.
I'm trying to get myself motivated to do some work this morning but I want to finish 2 LOs - they just need journalling. I'll use that as a reward once I've finished the most urgent paperwork |

morning girls -
soooo sorry I'm not around much; so much going on between the two jobs and home...wish I could tell you all, but a lot of it is depressing and I don't want to do that to you all. Just keep us all in your prayers.
We have next week off, and besides getting the house cleaned up a bit, I hope to get all praised up from what I didn't get to last month. Hopefully I'll be able to scrap a little too
Tina - so glad you had a wonderful weekend, and I'm glad your MIL didn't show up; she would have just put a damper on a perfectly wonderful family weekend.
Nylene - any day now Thanks for the use of your car, LOL.
Don't know if this can be fixed or not; Larry's trying to take a look at it in between the shuffling around, LOL.
Theresa - Huge hug, girl. And hope you find another job you like way better soon. I'm sure it won't be too difficult with your work ethics and your sweet demeanor.
Michelle - yeah, it's been a terrible year...when it rains, it pours. Hope everything is going better for you on your end.
Well, I must be getting going. Kevin has to actually drop me off at the school today because it's raining so we have to leave early to beat some of the school traffic (three schools makes for a lot of traffic).
Have a great day, girls. |

Good morning my lovelies! Sure don't want to get going this morning. Weather change has done a number on my sinuses. Temp dropped down to the 50's yesterday with nasty cold windy rain all day. This morning it looks like a giant cloud outside it's so foggy and it's hot in the house, crazy weather! Hoping that the fog lifts before I have to leave, sure makes that hour drive a lot longer when you can't see the side of the road.
Thanks for the positive thoughts about finding a new job. It seems that the jobs have dried up everywhere. I keep getting calls to be a travel nurse which is a boat load of money but I just can't go that far away from home with Joyce's health the way it is. I'd like a job where I don't have to work nights and that is going to be tough to find. I figure God will lead me to where I need to be I just have to keep my eyes open. Until then, I go in with a smile on my face and try to keep my mouth shut.
Michelle, can't imagine all the ATM's being shut down at the same time. I've gotten so used to using my debit card, don't know how I'd survive.
Toni, hope the car situation improves and hurray for an upcoming week off, just knowing that this week should make you have better days.
Nylene, good luck with the new baby. BTW, have you heard anything else from Steve's tests?
Update on the young man that I posted last month, his Thumbs Up For Lane Goodwin has went international. It's all over the news and he's had calls and visits from tons of celebrities. He's so excited to be able to get the word out about needing research for children's cancer. Told his Mom this weekend that even if he can't be saved he believes that others will! What an inspiration.

I need to finish a baby quilt for my niece in the next week, so after that I hope to concentrate on my scrapbooking more. I have some ideas going round in my head and need to act on it.

Good morning Peas!
I hope all of you have a really nice day today. My kiddos are counting down the days, they have fall break starting on Friday. Our district moved to a balanced calendar, so they get 2 weeks off of school. The second week that they are off is Olivia's fall break too, so that will be nice.
Nylene - Baby pics????
Monica - Are you doing okay? I'm hoping that you are at peace with your brother moving. My only sister lives in Seattle, so I can empathize with you.
Toni - LOL on the mother in law...you know that I didn't really care if she showed up or not. Ron's oldest sister was completely annoyed by it and posted something on FB about it that wasn't very nice. His mom is all about trying to make it appear that she is wonderful, so I'm sure she was annoyed. Is your cell number still the same? I'll give you a buzz next week to chat.
I need to run, have to get Grif out the door.

Hi MICHELLE can you give me more info about your computer?
When you say it switches on, is the power light lit? Do you see anything on the monitor (writing that scrolls, or is it completely black?), does the system turn itself off or stay on but you can't see anything? Is your monitor securely plugged in and on? If you have another monitor you can plug it in to eliminate if the monitor is a problem. Or plug this monitor into a laptop to see if it works. Does it make any beeping sounds when you start it...short beeps can mean you need to reseat or replace RAM (RAM can go bad)...short beeps followed by long beep can mean it's a monitor problem. Does the fan turn on? Stay on? Or turn on then turn off? If so that is definitely a power supply issue. Has the computer been moved recently? Sometimes connections inside can come loose? Have you opened the case to see if it is clogged with dust? Computers attract dust and that can make power supply overheat which will cause it to shut down.So turn it on again and tell me anything you observe and I will try to trouble shoot from across the oceans.
tONI vent away. Any news about the security of your teacher aid position? I'm sending positive vibes for your jobs.
Welcome PAM (Cropduster). Glad you decided to check us out. We love to add more to our chatty party. Come by any time, do challenges if you want (not required) and join in on the chatter (as you are comfortable). Nylene quilts too. Looking forward to getting to know you. How old is your son? I have twin boys, 13 years old.
TINA what exactly is a "balanced calendar"? Our school is trying out a new calendar this year but it's a bit wonky from a parent's perspective as they eliminated the one week long mid-winter break in February, added a 4 day weekend instead and then added 15 2 hr early dismissal days so we basically have 2-3 early dismissal days and one full day off every month...crazy.
I didn't know you had a sister living in my neighborhood? You've been holding out.
Weather is cooler today. I'm not feeling very motivated. Should go in and volunteer...maybe I will for a few hours. Although I haven't showered yet. So now i'm late.
Have a good day.

Hello ladies. I finally went and bought some more adhesive so hopefully I can get back into scrapping mode this month, that's my goal anyways. This weather is crazy we are still expecting temps close to 100 this week. I think someone forgot this is fall not summer.
Linda - I had to laugh at some of the holidays and events in October. We can celebrate the strangest things
Toni - I sympathize with Larry, we only have one car now and I do all the chaufering around for everyone. Keeping you in my prayers.
Michelle - Wow I can't imagine what it would be like for all the ATM's to be down. I don't use it often since Toby works for tips but that would probably be the time I would need to use it. Glad you had a relaxing time at the beach house.
Nylene - Can't wait to see pics of that new grandbaby.
Debi - Who do we petition to have more hours added to the day? I know I could sure use some more too.
Monica - Flood away, I could use some inspiration. I really need to get cracking again. Glad you had fun on your retreat and gone some pages done.
Tina - What a nice tradition to visit an orchard each year. Wish we had one here. Oh wait we do but it's pretty small and the hours are not convenient to drag the kids too. One of the drawbacks to living in the desert.
cropduster - Welcome to the group. Coming here certainly helps me find my mojo which seems to like to play hide and seek often

Hey nice to hear from some of you who don't get to drop by as often. Seems like we all have some challenges to deal with albeit different ones. I hope we can focus on the good things too.
I finally went in to volunteer today (first time back since class ended over a week ago)...I was there 4 hours; gosh it was dead quiet. Only one other volunteer there, someone I used to volunteer with but he was very grumbly today. It definitely has a different feel without all my classmates. Asked about if they have set up the next class but guess they haven't found a teacher yet. I'd offer to teach it but until I get my certification I'm not qualified, but geesh if I could get one of the techy guys to do the labs I could easily teach the content...hmmm
Tuesday is my crazy day, really the boys' crazy day as they have frisbee til 4:30, go to their dad's from 5:30-8, then I have to pick them up. Hard to get any homework done on Tuesday nights.
I'm struggling with whether I should have my son tested for the "gifted" program in HS. He tests high enough but I'm hesitant to consider separating him from his brother...have to decide by tomorrow. What would you do? If I do it, it doesn't lock me in, and it gives me more options but it does create a potential battle with the ex which I'd prefer not to do. And you know the testing would happen on his weekend so I couldn't just do it myself. Oy!
I'm sitting here staring off in space..wish I didn't feel so tired all the time. Got to drag myself downstairs and swap over the laundry. Laundry really isn't that big of deal but some days I just don't want to do it and it seems to be an everyday task. Anyone there with me?
KIds home in an hour, maybe I should take a nap.

Happy October!!
I am alive and actully DO challenges most months, just never get to posting them! With my girls getting older, seems I NEVER get the computer. Bought myself a laptop just for me, but then the big computer crashed so now we are all using MY laptop lol!!
THERESA- Good luck in your job search. At least the health care field is one of the better ones in this economy. Seems as if we are always hiring at the hospital.
MONICA- Glad you had a successful crop . i went to an all-day one last week. i got a lot of pages done. And how often do you ever just get to be with your girlfriends all day, laughing and talking, no distractions!! That's my favorite part.
Hope i can post something this monthhh!!! I have many pictures that feel neglected......

ok I scrapped my first page for October...a page of my sons' first costume and a digital trying out of many possibilities we could have chosen. Ultimately the Winnie the Pooh and Tigger were perfect and one of my favorite photos of my guys...aren't they cute?
Halloween Possibilities
This took me all night while I watched tv...lots of extractions

Hey ladies,
Happy Humpday! I can't believe how fast this week is going. Today is my last day of the week at my office, I'm at a child welfare conference tomorrow and Friday. I'd really prefer not to go, but it's pretty much a big suck-up fest, all of our referral sources will be there, so I'm practicing my puckering today.
Mandy and Tonya - It's happy to see you ladies hanging out with us. It's nice to see your happy faces on the thread.
Go Debi! for getting some scrapping done already this month (BTW, that LO is sooo cute). I'm hoping to play this weekend, I'm hoping it's much calmer than last weekend.
Well, I have 12 minutos to get my tail out the door, so I'd better get moving. Take care and have a great day all!

Alexander Douglas arrived yesterday. 8 lbs 1 oz and 22 inches long.
Mom and baby are doing great.
Wanted to welcome Pam, and say a big hello to Mandy, Dedra, and Tonya.
I'll chat with the rest of you a little later.

wowie, lots of happy news on the thread today!
Congrats Nylene! He is such a cutie. Love that he has red hair! They say that red hair is becoming more & more uncommon.
Congrats to Wanda, too! I'm with everyone else - can't wait to see pictures.
How cool that we have CG "twins!"
Tammy- Is it Emma you had to watch today? If so, I feel for ya! Hope you got good news from the foot doctor.
Dedra- I wish wish wish I could get back to you guys...
YOU CAN! Come on back!!
Michelle & Valerie- okay, if you say so... I'm going to flood the thread with my layouts!
Toni- Enjoy your week off! You totally deserve it. Relax. Get some scrapping done. Do something for YOU!
Tina- Thanks so much for asking how I'm doing I'm actually still having a hard time coping with my brother being gone... I get all teary when I'm alone sometimes. Funny how distance makes you realize just how much someone means to you sometimes. We've been keeping in touch through FB & texting, though. He tells me every night where they are & how it's going. So that's good!
Tonya- Would love to see your layouts! I have always been inspired by your work. But I understand - I hate the process of photographing & uploading layouts... I can't imagine how tired you must be working 7 days in a row Not fun at all.
Debi- As far as the gifted thing, my opinion is that if a student IS gifted, they should be in the gifted program because they need that extra challenge to keep their brains engaged. Also, having gone to a college prep high school, I think any sort of college prep courses are a huge help for someone who is gifted - it makes the first few years of college SO much easier (not as hard to adjust to more rigid courses in college). That's just my opinion, though!
Mandy- YES! I absolutely love my weekend crops. It's like a staycation My friend and I were doing them twice a year, but we are probably going to cut them down to once per year because of the cost. But we have a ton of fun! The Embassy Suites has free hot breakfasts and happy hour, which is always nice, too
Lori- Good to see ya again!
Diana- What do you mean, "remember me"? Of course we do! How are things going? Is your Premier business keeping you busy?
Well, I scrapped with some friends tonight and got 2 more layouts done! I really need to start posting some of them... |

Look at everybody! So nice to see you all - new babies, old friends, and a new one too. I love it!
Windy here - whew - and cooler too. It is definately fall.
Talked to my dad tonight and he has to have surgery on his right leg again. Not sure when but soon. He had surgery on it in May so I was hoping it wouldn't be again so soon. I think he is a little worried about it and especially about what to do as far as the farm and being prepared for some down time.
I might take some page kits to the hospital this time. I thought of it last time when I was sitting there with really not much to do. Better start now getting a few put together.
I'm escaping for a day this weekend to go to my college reunion. Greg will stay home and work - he has no problem with that
Later all!

I've been trying to work on a double page layout for 3 days now. it's taking forever. Anyways. Hopefully I can get back on track. I'm loving the sketch for the month. My DH took the little one out yesterday and took the best picture. I'm going to use that as my motivation to get myself int gear. I will get that layout posted tomorrow. I will if I don't you can come raid my scraproom! Ima get that layout done before that happens lol. |

Okay, funny story!!!
I had to run to the store and get my broken nail fixed (get them done at Wal-Mart). I get to the nail place and look down and I've got on two completely different flip flops. I can't quit laughing. Teach me to slip into shoes in the dark.
Not to mention that they are not even remotely close in color.

WOW! Lots of chatter going on yesterday!
Pilotswife - glad to see you back! Come and play! The challenges are always a good jumpstart for me if my mojo is missing. Though I often get side-tracked and end up doing a different LO to the challenge, at least it gets the creativity flowing.
WANDA AND NYLENE - CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Nylene - that little guy is so cute. I just love the yawn. And I'll echo everyone else about the red hair. I think we were all wondering...
Debi - I'll plug the desktop in again and give you a rundown of what is happening. I suspect it got damaged when they broke in. The thieves ripped all the wires for the laptops out of the wall and it was all entangled, so maybe its just loose wiring. I'm still a bit intimidated to open up the box myself Not tech savvy with hardware. um, and can you explain 'extractions on TV' for me? I presume it's just a typo...lol.
Tonya - ugh, seven days straight? Full days or just half-days? That must play havoc with your routine. Congrats on Harper starting to walk. Yep, now everything moves up a metre to be out of reach.
Mandy - I also have to fight for computer time on MY laptop. Hence the whole effort to fix DH's desktop. At least I can get Ruan to play MOshi Monsters there and not ask me every ten seconds when it is 1pm and when am I going to work, so he can play
Toni - thinking of you. Yes, thanks, things are stablising around here. Not great yet, but at least no major crisis right now. It does sometimes feel as if everything just goes wrong at the same time.(((hugs)))
Valerie - the weather seems crazy all over. We are swining from cold and rainy to sunny and warm every few days. No mild spring days, just extremes. 100F this time of year? Oi.
Pam - welcome! Please play along.
Diana - happy to see you again! What is keeping you so busy? Or is it the empty nest syndrome, lol. NOT that your house is empty yet, just a little quieter. |

Morning all!
Linda, loving the "emergency run" to the nail store story. The kids around here wear different color flip flops and different socks too, they trade with each other so you could have just been starting the trend there, LOL. One of the techs wore two different shoes to work Monday but she, like you, just grabbed the wrong one. They were fairly close in color but one had a design and the other didn't. She was stuck til lunch when she got to go home.
Hope this link will work because Wanda posted a photo on FB and I bet she is going to be way too busy to post anything on here for a while!
Wanda
Happy Birthday Tere and Pat too since neither post I'm not sure you'll see it here but we'll give it a try anyway.
Monica, sorry you're missing the brother. It'll get easier, try and remember all the problems he caused, LOL, maybe that'll work.
Not sure who asked about the gifted program but Jeremy was in it and some years it was good, others not so good. It depends on the program, if the instructor can individualize it AND most importantly if the child wants to participate. Any of the three that doesn't work--program fails.
Best get in the shower.

MICHELLE you crack me up! I said "This took me all night while I watched tv...lots of extractions" meaning I had to extract the various costumes to superimpose my kids' faces into...and I did it while I was watching tv...LOL I DID NOT phsycially try on each of these costumes on the boys...heavens! I did it all DIGITALLY. LOL
One of the hardest things to get over with owning/working on a computer is to get past the fear of opening the case. You will do NO damage just opening the case (phillips head screwdriver at most, and many just have a release to take off a panel to access the inside). Now that said, maybe I need more information about what lead up to the problem. If wires were yanked out it's possible they were damaged or simply need re-plugged in. Undo all wires, re-plug into the case and then the wall and turn on. (let me know what happens next...anything on the monitor, any noise, smell,..). If the computer was working prior to the invasion, it may be less a problem than you think. Was the monitor knocked over? Do you have a laptop that you could plug the monitor into to verify that it indeed works. What operating system (Windows XP, Vista, 7?) are you using. It is a PC not a MAC, right? We CAN fix this. Maybe we should Skype each other in real time and get this desktop fixed!
PILOTSWIFE welcome back and you do realize, that there is no requirement to actually scrap to participate on the boards, not that we don't like oogling over everyone's pages, but I'm just saying. We enjoy the company, pages in hand or not. So keep coming by and good luck with that LO. I'll be watching for it to post.
LINDA the 2 flipflops made me smile, but given your wonderful eclectic personality, I doubt anyone would have even thought it a mistake, but rather a fashion statement...so I say flaunt it with flair!
Maybe we should start a MISMATCHED SHOE holiday in OCTOBER...
DIANA where have you been girl?
OK trying to copy image of Wanda and her new grandson Cole from her FB page...don't they both look marvelous?
THERESA and MONICA B I was the one asking about gifted programs and I opted once again NOT to put Owen in it, as he has NO interest in working any harder. He already is in 2 years advanced math and 1 year advanced LA/SS and he just doesn't like applying himself despite how smart he is so, I decided to leave it alone. I hope I don't regret this decision but I already fight with him about homework and he has a "bad attitude" concerning school performance making the argument that if he gets "C's" that's average and therefore "good enough". The kid is an A+ kid so it rubs me the wrong way when he won't make any effort. I don't think putting him in classes that demand more is going to help that.
SO happy to see all the new/old friends coming by.

Hi ladies,
I know I'm so MIA!
I'm really busy, i"m babysitting 2 little Russian kids what and experience. Helping a friend out two more weeks then I'm done. I'm also helping a friend who is going through chemo.
Premier is keeping me busy but I got it all organize so now that part is done and gives me time to do more. So because I'm lonely and don't have enough on my plate I decided to be room mom and my beautiful wonderful other mom friends voted me to be lead room mom of all 2nd grade classes 5 in total, every night I get emails is something different, so many fundraisers and stuff is arg...why did I do this after Monica I said I would never do this again. Tammy how you have done this for so many years! I admire you my friend.
Monica...sorry you are missing your brother so much. Stay possitibe everything happens for a reason maybe you will find your dream job in Oregon.
Linda..that's pretty funny about the flip flops, Stan wore two different shoes once, and he blamed me all the way there. They where pretty different.
Toni...Hope you got the car situation fixed. (((HUGS))) to you my friend.
Daniel is here this weekend, he is so loving is so hard to believe is the same kid. Should of sent him to boarding school.
Monica is applying to do dual enrollment at the college here, I don't know how much I like this idea since she will be going to HS in a college environment with all the college boys. But she really wants to do it because it will give her a AA at the same time she gets her HS Diploma save 2 years of paying for college and all the Universities in FL accepts the credits. So I left it on Gods hands if it's for her good then she will be accepted if not then it was not meant to be.
That's about all for me. I'm going to try and come around more often, I don't even scrap anymore very sad.
Ok sending a big hello to everyone else.
