Welcome to the Young Scrappers thread for October 2012!

Who are the Young Scrappers? We are a group of "young" 20-something to 30-something year old girls who created a group to share our interest in scrapbooking! We take the "young" part lightly - it's all about how young you feel. Feel free to join in the chat! Just post an intro so we know who you are. And post links to your layouts here - we love to share our work & leave some praise!

We have something new going on through the end of the year - a special challenge!

The goal is to complete 29 layouts before the end of the year. The challenges are a way to give you a kick start on those layouts!

A link to the complete challenge list can be found here:
Fancy version

plain b&w version

Here are the guidelines:
1. Complete as many of the 29 challenges as you can before the end of the year - December 31, 2012.

2. You can complete them in any order but no combining challenges.

3. Upload each layout to the gallery and make sure to check the challenge checkbox on the 4th step of the upload process.

Each month, one person will be the hostess to guide us along on the journey! This month it is LONI Here is what she has to say:

**October 1-8 Challenge Focus**

Outside the leaves are changing colors! How about a color challenge? Let's focus on #12 this week - Use RAINBOW colors on your layout!

**October 8-15 Challenge Focus**
This week we have the 10th day of the 10th month! Let's focus on challenge #10 and scrap a layout with 10 pictures!

I'm excited to host this months challenges! How is everyone doing on theirs? I think I'm at about 7 out of 29. I need to upload some projects and show you!

October 1-8 Challenge Focus:

Outside the leaves are changing colors! How about a color challenge? Let's focus on #12 this week - Use RAINBOW colors on your layout!

Don't forget to show us in the thread when you've done it! Happy October!

I can't believe it's October either!!

I'm back from the hotel scrapbook retreat today. I managed to finish 9 layouts, which is great for me! I got a great start on my Oregon summer pictures. I will upload a few layouts at a time so I don't flood the gallery! It was a really fun & relaxing weekend. But I am sooo happy to get to sleep in my OWN bed tonight

I've been sad all day because I finally had to say farewell to Justin & Amy yesterday They started off on their move to Oregon. It's actually pretty amazing - I spent a bit of time at their house Saturday and NOTHING was packed up. The house was a huge mess! With the help of Amy's family and my mom and I, though, they got the moving truck all packed up (to the gills) and the house cleaned. Finally set in when I had to say goodbye to them yesterday just how much I'm going to miss them Thank goodness for technology, but it's still not the same.

Happy October!

I seriously can't believe it is October! One week from today DH and I will be celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. The year seriously flew by!

Monica: Glad you had fun at the crop! I love going to crops, but they can be pretty exhausting too!I know you are sad about Justin and Amy moving, but just think, all the more reason to visit (or move!) Oregon!

I don't know why I never read these threads before now...but it sounds like fun! How do I join or play along? I clicked on the two links listed above to check out what the challenges were all about and neither one of them would open for me. Is there another place to view these at?

I am such a slow scrapper that I'm hoping something like a group and a challenge to be accountable to might help me get some pages done. I esp like that the challenge is "29" layouts...10 days from now I'll be 29 and beginning the end of my 20's!

Woohoo it's October and I love all things fall so it's perfect. I wish I could see the changing of the leaves like I did in PA, but I can always go to my memory of all the beautiful colors. What a great challenge this week Loni. Between fall colors and DD's birthday painting party I will have lots of fun.
Monica: sorry you had to see your brother off yesterday, but you or he could visit and Skype is another thing I love (even though it's not the real thing). I hope they had a safe trip.
Steph: yea 1 year under the belt.

Welcome Bling! I'm Elizabeth, live in Oklahoma, 2 beautiful girls, hubby of 6 years, and I love crapbooking, knitting, and my family among other things. Hope you can join in on the chatter and fun.

Okay since last month I have completed 12 of the 29. Hoping to get a few done this weekend. I have been so busy with knitting another scarf capelet since the other was too small for my mom and working on a 12x12 20 page album for her too. So far I have done 13 pages and 25% of the capelet. I really need to get going so I can work on a mini album for my brother using Simple Stories Awesome collection. Love that collection. Well back to knitting.

Hey ladies! I've been creeping the thread on and off for the past few months, and now that life has settled down finally a bit I thought I might join back up to this wonderful chatter! I still see a few familiar faces! For those who don't know me my name is Lisa, but let's call me Lisa C as I see there is another Lisa out and about here on this thread! (*waves*) I just turned 22 on September 11, I live in Alberta Canada and just recently got married on August 18 to an amazing man. I have two fur ball kitties, a ginger one who we call Loki, and a black and white we call Neo! I'm super excited to be back here, hoping it'll give me inspiration and more motivation to scrap more often!

Morning, ladies!! I can't believe it is October, either. It seemed like the first half of the year drugggggg onnnnn and on...and then the latter part of the year is just speeding on past.

I have printed out the challenge sheet, but haven't done any of the LOs yet. I had fully planned on scrapping some last night, but fell asleep by 8:30! Today is my 3rd straight day at work, and it's getting to me...got called in on Sunday, so I am working 3 days, off the next 2, and then 3 more days when I work the weekend.

Monica- Sounds like your crop was fun and a success! Justin is your brother, right? I don't have any siblings, but I know I hated when my friends all moved away...so I can't imagine how you're feeling.

Steph- Do you and DH have any plans for your anniversary? My BF and I will be together 2 1/2 years on the 17th. I doubt we will do anything, and then he graduates from the fire academy on the 19th.

Bing- Just join right in on the conversation here I'm Julie, 25 from Arkansas...have a boyfriend of almost 2.5 years and I am obsessed with riding horses

Lisa C- Hey, and welcome back

Monica, I'm so sorry you're sad! I hope you get to talk to your brother a lot.

Steph, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! - next week.

Hey Bing! Welcome! Tell us your real name and more about you.
I'm Loni, 29 - married 8 years and I have 4 children. Besides scrapbooking my hobbies are reading and writing.

Elizabeth, looking forward to seeing those color pages!

Lisa C! Welcome back on congrats on getting married! How exciting!

Julie, maybe you can scrap on your days off, huh? In the last thread I asked you how long you ride for when you are working with your horses.

Rachel, I hope you are healing fast!

To my previous post I don't like crapbooking it was suppose to read scrapbooking.

Lisa C: cute names for your kitties. Especially love Loki. My youngest DD middle name is Loke. Love the way her Hawaiian name flows and the meaning.

Welcome to the ladies joining and rejoining in.

Last night I was able to complete 4 layouts in my mothers album and decided against knitting. Instead I watched 24 with DH and wrote out some scrapping plans. I have a lot to catch up on.

Today my plan is to go through all my new photos of the girls and get 2 pages done using my CTMH magic book.

Hi ladies,
Once again I'm shocked that we are in a new month. Seriously 2012 is just flying by!
The boy and I are slowly but surely clearing out junk and getting the house organised. My new walk in closet was finished yesterday so I've just been organising today. Yay! Pics on instagram for anyone who's interested! I also started some Christmas shopping today. Little and often is my motto this year so I don't have a huge spending splurge in decemeber!! Can't help but self gift along the way too though- picked up an amazing down jacket. Way over budget for me but was needed as it's gonna be a cold winter!! Also got some cute measuring spoons for baking. Now home to do more tidying and a spot of study

Welcome bing and Lisa c! We're a friendly group, just jump right in.

Monica, I'm sad for you but technology is awesome and you can always go visit right? They must have been so grateful for the extra pairs of hands when packing up

Steph, one year already?! Wow! How's your PL going?

Elizabeth, I need to get into the habit of knitting in the evening when my jobs are done and I'm watching tv. Loving ravelry. Thanks for the tip

Julie, will you do anything to celebrate his graduation?

Girls, I'm glad to say all has been patched up with my friend. Met her for lunch to clear the air today. All good again thank goodness

Nicole nice having you in the group. My bday is Jan 9th. So yea for a January baby. Where ate you located.

Caroline: ralvery is so much fun. I end up saving more than I make. I really just got into knitting more last year. I started learning the year before that but was slow. Took me about 7 months to knit my first scarf. Now I am doing the London capelet and loving it even though I am missing a row of cables. YouTube has been a good sent for extra help too.

I still can't open the list of challenges...any suggestions?

Loni: carry over from sept. love the idea of a pinterest group. Might have to suggest it to the girls. I have a ton of things on my make it list. Love the thumb print necklace so that might be top of the list. You should see about them starting up a zumba group. They offer it free and what they have been doing is putting all kids on one side with toys from nursery and TV movie on Friday while the adults are on the other side in front of the stage. It works perfect bc the kids play and we can work out while watching the kiddos. They started doing it at 8:30 so the mom who drop off their kids could make it.

Hello ladies!

I've been struggling lately with the sheer amount of information I need to know for my classes this semester. Zoology, Anatomy and Psychology are the worst, Philosophy has essays and really long confusing readings and I love Botany. My first midterm is tomorrow, wish me luck!
Also, some lady just phoned me up, and the city is gonna pay me a ridiculous amount of money to lead a 1 day art camp in November.... I gotta get cracking on prep for that too!

Caro, hopefully we manage to catch eachother when we have a break from our studies, we can definitely relate schedule-wise.

Nicole and Lisa C, welcome! I'm Christina, 19, live in Alberta Canada, full time university student, play volleyball and waitress on the side.

Caroline, walk in closet? Jeaaalous. I just rearranged my room last weekend, now it feels like I have so much space! I have a pretty big room and a really big bed so fitting in a desk, a bookshelf, and two dressers is pretty fun.

Julie, I always wanted to own horses, like my life dream right there. Tell us about yours?

Loni- Sorry, I missed that on last month's thread My neighbor has 4 (plus a new one, so 5) horses that I ride...it helps her keep them exercised for weekend shows, and it helps me get a little extra $$. When I ride hers, I only ride 2 a day (the others either get the day off, or will be hooked up to a machine called a walker...4 horses can be hooked to it, and they walk/trot in a circle)...I ride each horse for 30 minutes. However, if I am riding my own horses, it can be anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on where I am riding and what I am doing.
And yep, I try to do a lot of scrapping on my off days

Caroline- I'm really not sure if we will do anything, or if his family has anything planned. I bought him two gifts, a shift (which has come in the mail already) and a personalized blanket (which hasn't...eek).

Caro- Thanks...I seldom have much exciting news, lol Good luck on your first day back!!

Christina- I could go on for days about my horses What would you like to know?

Hey gals!

Yesterday was rough. Millie is losing weight because she isn't nursing well. The pediatrician advised me to pump and feed her a bottle so we could make sure she is eating enough. In 24 hours she gained 2.5 ounces. The doctor said I can go back to nursing, but I'm afraid she won't nurse after having a bottle.

So. My focus has been 100% on getting her fed.

Rach- Aw, poor Millie...tell her to start channeling the inner fat kid and eat eat eat! hehe Hopefully she will start doing better soon.

Christine- Ok, don't say I didn't warn you TANK is my oldest...I think he is 17 now (not sure without looking at their papers, lol). He is a Quarter Horse, a gelding (castrated male), sorrel color (copper-ish color, like a penny). He is short and fat I have had him since he was 4. He is my partner in crime. Like me, he is stubborn and lazy, so we get along I used to compete in team penning on him (to keep a long story short, you pretty much chase cows). He is a spooky horse, not as bad now as he used to be (because of age and just continued training)...he is always a little skeptical about new places...doesn't like mailboxes, trash cans, flags, his own shadow...lol. He is a great beginner horse, though, and takes care of inexperienced riders.
COWGIRL is my mare (female); she is 16. She is also a Quarter Horse, and liver chestnut color (brown). She is a very smart horse and catches on quickly. I don't ride her very much...never did compete on her. She has had 3 major-ish injuries--colic (serious stomach problem in horses, possibly fatal), and 2 leg injuries. Sometimes, when the weather changes, she will limp from her past leg injuries, so I don't want to push her a lot. She is a good trail horse and parade horse because she doesn't spook like Tank will. I've had her since she was 3.
TIP is my newest horse. He is also a Quarter Horse, bay colored (dark brown with black mane and tail, and black on lower legs). He is 8; I have had him since he was 6. I call him my mangy mule, because he is HUGE...tallest horse I've ever ridden, and has huge ears And the mangy part comes from the fact that he will rub part of his tail and mane when bugs make him itch Anyway, he is a good natured, laid back horse, also...good for trail riding, and hopefully I will be able to compete on him one day.

That's pretty much my 3 in a nutshell, lol

Hey, hey, hey ladies!! I see this thread each month, and by the time I want to jump in the month is practically over!! I plan to play along for REAL this month

I'm Gabrielle Watson (26) from Denton, TX. I've been married for 6 years, and I have two rugrats: Harper is 3, and Sawyer is 3 months. I work full time at the University of North Texas, where I am also a grad student 3/4 time. I scrap mostly on the weekends, pretty much staying up UBER late to get some much needed CREATIVE time in. I also host monthly crops at my house, which I just began last month. Stephanie was there, and it was so great to meet her in person! It's rare that I meet gals my own age locally who scrap

Lovely to meet all of you!!

RACH - You are having a hard time nursing? Do you think it's a problem with latching? That may be the reason she is not gaining enough weight because of improper latch. If you haven't already maybe try nipple shields. I had to use them with both of my babies to improve their latch. It only took a week or so of using them for each kiddo, and they caught on pretty quickly. Try the shield now especially if she has trouble since she's had a bottle. It will work, just be patient and keep trying; she'll figure it out

Hi Gabrielle!! So glad you decided to finally join us. It was so great meeting you a few weeks ago, and I am really looking forward to cropping again later this month!

Julie: We don't have anything too big planned. We are going to dinner at a nice restaurant this weekend.

Lisa C: Welcome back! Congrats again on your marriage! Loved seeing the pics on FB!

Caroline: About PL...ummm I'm waaaaaaaaay behind!!!!

Nicole: Welcome to YS!! I am Stephanie, 26 and I live in Texas with my husband. I've been a member of YS for several years now, and I have been scrapping for about 12 years.

Hi Gabrielle!! We have been using shields since we met with the lactation consultant in the hospital. I'm so glad she switched back to the boob after her bottles. I think I am going to try and pump a smidge, nurse, then bottle feed to satisfy her hunger. It is like a full time job and I dread going back to work.

Rachel: keep working at it and remember you're doing good.

Julie: live horses and you are so passionate about them and that's so nice to read. I am hoping to one day have a horse for the girls to ride and enjoy as you do.

It's hard to keep up with everyone on my IPod so Hi to everyone I don't know. Stephanie and Gabrielle that's pretty neat you 2 met up for a crop. I am excited to be going to Lewisville next week for a wedding bc the Joann's there is suppose to have that mysterious Basic Grey Serendipity and Shine On line. Hoping they still have it.

I went to LSS and picked up Farmhouse fall line with a cute burlap rosette for the album cover. Can't wait to get going on that mini project. I ordered a tutorial from paper phenomenon (retro album) and super excited to get started on that as well. Busy busy busy.

apology's for being so MIA the past week ladies... I finally got a second job and training starts next week. It's in a residential home for youth (11-17ish) who have extreme emotional and behavioural issues. I am also recovering from a cold, I caught the september bug! Next weekend Jonny and I are heading to Edmonton, Alberta for my grandfathers 97th birthday! Most of my mom's side lives there so Jonny is going to meet almost everyone... He's in for a treat as I have 28+ cousins LOL

WELCOME to the new girls. My name is Melissa and I'm 22. I live in Vancouver Canada. I'm a nanny for 2 boys, 1 which has autism... I specialize in autism and special needs. My boyfriends name is Jonny and he's a babe haha we both love, love love to travel and are going to Thailand/Malaysia for two months in Jan! I mainly focus on travel scrapbooks and just recently started making cards.

@Rach, I love seeing all the photos of Amelia on Insta! Be patient with the breast feeding, it'll come with time. My mom said she had troubles with me for a few months and after a bottle I was fine and would nurse. I hope you and Bryan and Eureka are getting enough rest

@Caro, good for you for taking Spanish classes! I'm slowly becoming more fluent again as Jonny will speak Spanish to me sometimes. Hope school is going well overall

@Christina, where do you live in AB? I'm visiting so if your close to Edmonton we should meet!!!

Melissa, I live right outside of Edmonton actually! How long are you here for?

Welcome Gabrielle!

Julie, I always wanted a pinto or a palomino, but a white horse (actually they're never called white, only grey) was on the top of my list. I read a ridiculous number of horse books as a child and I think I still have my horse encyclopedia lying around somewhere. Tip sounds like my kind of guy haha maybe he's tall enough.

Welcome back, Lisa!!!

Welcome new gals. I am Rachel, 27, mother of 11 day old baby girl, Millie and 1.5 year old cat, Eureka. Wife to Ryan. I work as an in-home counselor for youth and families.

Tomorrow my only task is to take care of Millie and possibly work on her scrapbook.

Evening ladies! Such a warm welcome from you all, thank you! Hello to all the new faces!

Elizabeth: Yeah, we named him Loki cause Loki is the name for the Greek God of Mischief, which totally suits him now that he's older. He can be a handful, but he is a major momma's boy and I love him more than anything.

Caro: Hiiii I've always wanted to go to the UK. Some day...

Christina: You sound like you have a majorly busy life! And I thought MY life was busy. Now that the wedding is over I feel like I have a ton of time on my hands. Also, it's awesome to see someone else from Canada! I live in Medicine Hat, so not far from you

Rachel: Hope nursing gets better. You make cute babies btw!

Gabrielle: Hiii! I saw you posted on my "Kit Club" forum. You must be a busy woman with all the clubs you're subscribed too!

Melissa: Hello! Another one from Canada, and same age as me! It's nice to finally see some girls closer to my age in this group

I got one of my boxes that I ordered to create my December Daily album yesterday. I'm just waiting for the second one from Simon Says Stamp to come and then i'm going to start on my daily album. I decided to make mine from scratch, however I paid more than I would have if I would have bought a kit, but I fell in love with the MME Winter Wonderland collection and decided to use that and the Bazzill Lickity Slip blank chipboard D ring album so! I finished the bulk of my wedding mini the other night, now I just have to embellish and then it's done! I was supposed to go to a Carrie Underwood concert in Calgary tonight with my Momma and sister, but work got in the way I wish I could have went, I love her so much! I'm looking forward to our thanksgiving weekend this weekend, but I have to work the Saturday, so I just get a normal 2 day weekend, instead of a full 3 day. Atleast I only work 9-1 Saturday!

hey girls!
I subbed a half day today... had 2 HOURS without students! I pretty much just read my book. Came home and really did a whole lot of nothing! It felt good to just relax.

I feel way behind on the chat already...

Melissa: I am from Medicine Hat! I clicked on your YT link, and watched your video's I noticed you order stuff and ship it to your US postal box. Is that a lot cheaper than shipping it to Canada? Do you ship like your two peas stuff to there? How far away from the border are you? I'm just curious as I have looked into that!

@Lisa C, It's so much cheaper and/or free shipping. I do have to pay $3.50 fees for each parcel but better than what we usually have to pay in Canada. Yes, 2ps stuff goes there! We have so many borders to Washington and I am about 30 min from one (their fee's are more expensive and line ups are longer) and then 1 hour away from another (the one I go to). I would look into it... I have 2 weeks to pick them up before I get hit with more "storage fees" so I try to do all my shopping around the same time and pick them up once they've all arrived. Hope this helps... just google shipping and receiving (US cities close to the border) and something should come up!

@Loni, September everyone is bound to get germs... Only time of year I hate working with children. Feel better!

Rachel, I think I will be for once! I'm just about to run out to do some errands (finally getting some photos printed from more than 2 years ago to scrap)! Hows the Millie today? And how are you?

I am around for a little, but have a library trip planned in a second them home to look through some goodies I picked up at HL. I have been on just one big spending frenzy since June. Someone stop me. Lol. I placed a 2peas order this morning. More Simple Stories. Can't seem to get enough. And I still need to drool over my farmhouse paper. Been loving on them too. Picked up some Tim Holtz hardware for my brothers album and super excited to get started on that in the next few weeks. (Hopefully). I was able to clean up and it felt good seeing my kitchen sink again.

Melissa: We are good. I have figured out how to shower without someone else here to hold her.

Once I get Millie down for a nap and pump, I'm headed to the scrap cave.

@Rachel - do you have one of those bouncer chairs? We have the kind that fit into a swing. I used to put DS in the bouncer chair on the floor of the bathroom where I could see him so I could shower. Worked great!

The vibrating bouncy seat is my simple, yet essential trick for a shower!!

I am in the scrap cave while Ry is snuggled with Millie in the man cave!

Rachel: yea for shower time. Swing = god sent, bouncer seat= god sent, snuggle wraps = god sent for my first. She was a late summer baby and loved to be warm so we got the warmer ones. And another yea for scrapping time.

Just got to the end of my yarn so I guess I am done. Still need to complete about a small portion and weaving in the ends. About to look through some goodies and hopefully find time to scrap Friday. Going to have a close friend over so that should be fun.

Melissa: that's good you're getting around to your older photos. I need to do something with mine. I just ordered my honeymoon pictures from 2006 cancun so that should be fun to look back on and get a mini album going for that. Have fun scrapping!

Elizabeth: She loves to be swaddled. She will only sleep if swaddled, on our chests, or in our arms.

Rachel, looking good!

Elizabeth, it was about time I scrapped my 2 trips... I'm going away for two months in Jan and I know I'm going to have tons of photos (judging from my 6 week trip last year). Hope you get yours done soon

Just finished 9 LO's and I freaking ran out of adhesive! I even went through two packs! UGH hate when that happens!
