I've had my Ginghers for almost 30 years now, and they still live in the box they arrived in. I put them back after each time I use them. There is no one in this house I'd trust NOT to grab them for cutting paper, wire, whatever, if I didn't keep them hidden.

Heh. My mom was an excellent seamstress and quilter. I was raised with a very healthy respect for the Sacred Sewing Scissors.

I keep a scrap of fabric tied to the handle of fabric scissors. That is more noticeable to my dh. I try to keep them hidden, but sometimes forget.
My kids have all been threatened with a maiming if I catch them with the good scissors.

I learned to sew at 9, making my Barbie clothes so I "got it" quickly since her older scissors NEVER cut as good as the newest ones. I understood why I could never cut paper with them.
What I really really coveted was her PINKING SHEARS! I SO wanted to cut paper with them... when Fiskars came out with all the paper scissors, I bought FIVE pair at Joanns the first time I found them. I was in "heaven", all the fancy edges I could now cut!

The vine trimming story made me queasy, I never ever used my mom's fabric scissors!
However dh was always using my scissors, so I got him his own personalized pair, which made me realize that i'm always using his scissors....ha!
