We lost Ruckus July 22. He was 3 1/2 years old. My DH was devastated to put it mildly. Ruckus and he had a special bond. Ruckus left a huge hole in our hearts and our family. DH was ready to get another Dane, so I started searching Petfinder. I searched as far away as Kansas and only found 1 Dane under a year old that was without major health issues. DH really wanted a Fawn. I was reluctant because I was concerned he was (not conciously (sp) ) trying to replace Ruckus. I gave in because I realized I needed to do what ever it took to help DH start to heal. I researched and found a reputable breeder 3 hours away. On August 23 we picked up our 10 week old Male. His name is Mason, but we call him thumper dumplin... He makes a loud thumping noise every time his feet hit the floor and he was a real dumpling when we brought him home.
He was Just what DH and our family needed to start to heal. He is the sweetest and smartest pup I have ever seen.
Last week the Breeder contacted me to let me know she had 1 female left out of the litter (Mason's littermate) and did I want her. DH jumped on it and Saturday we drove to pick up (now 15 week old ) Maya.
They bring such Joy to us and are joined at the hip playing and cuddling. Sorry the pics aren't good, they are too active and wiggly to get a good shot of them together..lol.
ETA: Hubby asked me to continue on with Ruckus' Blog. The pictures of him brought DH great comfort after our loss. Every day he sat and looked at the entire blog. So, if you want to see more pics, I'm going to update that blog regularly (it is not monetized)

Congratulations! They're so cute! Love big dogs.
It really is good medicine. We lost our 13 year old black lab 2 weeks ago. We had already had a chocolate lab pup coming from a breeder because I didn't want our yellow lab to be alone and because I wanted our old black lab to help teach our new pup. Well as timing would have it we lost our black lab at 6 a.m. in the morning and at 6 p.m. that night our chocolate was scheduled to arrive. We almost didn't do it because our hearts were hurting so bad but now I can't imagine NOT having the pup there to help distract and heal that wound.
Enjoy your new babies. They're so much fun.

Lizzy - They are European Danes. Dad was 200 lbs and mom was 165. The pups are 3 1/2 months old and 50 lbs each. They are heavy when we have to pick them up and carry them.
Kim. Sorry for your loss and congrats on the new pup. I agree, it is a distraction from the loss.

Congratulations! I agree, new doggie is the best way to heal that wound.
We lost both of our pugs (12 and 11 years old) this past year. We're in the process of completing the adoption of a HUMAN child, but once we bring her home (probably this winter) we are going to get new puppies. I miss my doggies. DH needed some time to heal, but we are definitely ready.

NEW BABIES!!!!!
They are so beautiful!!!
I'm glad you're keeping the blog going. I used to visit it often to check in on Rukus and I bawled my eyes out when you lost him. He was so sick when he was a baby and when you were posting here about his fight to survive I got very emotionally tied to that beautiful boy.
I am sure he would be thrilled with you getting 2 new babies.

Congratulations! We lost Padme back in June, so it has been really healing to have our new puppy. My husband cried when I brought her home.
Danes are great! Gotta love them, and their huge paws are so funny when they haven't really grown into them yet.

I really think they did. I'm sure he recognized the smell on her and they started playing and cuddling right away. It took her a day or two to come around to the other 2 dogs.
