Turkey on Sunday evening, afternoon spent with family. My son and daughter-in-law are returning on Friday from a 3 week trip through Europe, so we're looking forward to seeing lots of pictures! Saturday we close the cottage.... always a sad thing to realize the summer is really gone...

The kids have the day off Friday so we are going apple picking. Saturday morning both kids have hockey and we are having our big dinner in the afternoon. Sunday DH is golfing, ds has hockey and I am guessing I will be making turkey soup and turkey pot pies, hopefully dd will help. Monday my plan is to do NOTHING except take ds to his hockey game.

It is just the 4 of us this year as my brother doesn't have his kids this weekend so we are getting together with them and my mom in a couple of weeks

I know, right? Really snuck up this year!

We have family dinners on Friday and Sunday, and we'll fit at least one golf game in there. Maybe go down to the river for a wienie roast. Our indian summer weather has been incredible so far, and this weekend is supposed to still be warm and sunny!

Shame on you! DH and I were just talking about this last night. November will be 13 years here in AZ and we *still* celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.

It's just going to be the five of us having TGiving Dinner together on Sunday, DH has to work Monday but the kids and I are off. Soccer and swim this weekend. Youngest going to a birthday party. The usual.

I have two markets this weekend so hubby will be going to visit with his mom, me and my daughter will be staying home and going out to dinner at the restaurant my son is the cook at for dinner sunday. Pretty low key this year. But I give thanks for everything and everyone I have in my life.

We're hosting dinner for 25 (gulp!) on Sunday. Everyone is bringing something so it won't be a lot of work with regards to cooking! Lots of great food on the menu-- turkey, ham, cabbage rolls, pierogies, Mac n' cheese and lots of side dishes and desserts. Wine will flow and maybe a giant game of Chase The Ace afterwards! Looking forward to it.

Forgot to say what we are doing.

Saturday morning we'll be at the market shopping for vegetables. Saturday afternoon we typically go on a hike (burn off some of those Thanksgiving calories before we consume them).

Sunday, my brother and his new husband will be over for the big dinner. This will be BIL's first Thanksgiving.

Monday will be spent recovering.

DS is off Th-Mon. The Christian Educator's conference is this weekend, so super long weekend. We were originally thinking of going to Disneyland since he had 5 days off, but rethought that with Columbus Day and Thanksgiving this weekend, the park will be packed.

My sister and I are taking the boys on their first SkyTrain ride on Thursday to Science World. States on Friday, cleaning Saturday, dinner here on Sunday. The boys also have a birthday party to go on Sunday. Monday is a pajama day, I think. DS has been asking for one for weeks. Apparently Kindergarten is tough.

theshyone, sorry to hear you are still hospitalized. I hope you can go home soon!

My dh works in northern ontario, we live in south central ontario, so i haven't seen him for a couple of weeks. He is coming home tomorrow and not going back up until Tuesday. Yay!

We always host thanksgiving. My in laws come over, dh does all the cooking. I do all the clean up. Works for us!

We are having ham, scalloped potatoes, baked squash, etc.

Valincal - that sounds like such an awesome dinner and fun time. I can't even imagine 25 people at Thanksgiving dinner. Our families are so small dh's sister lives in Winnipeg so we only see them every couple of years. My family is 3 hours away and we will have Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks but there will only be 8 of us. I am jealous of what sounds like complete chaos(in a fun way). Enjoy it all

Ha! Thanksgiving did kind of creep on up!

We're just taking it easy around home and will most likely have a big meal for us and my BIL's family. My folks are off galavanting in the US and DH's folks are working, so they can't make it.

Theshyone, I'm so sorry that you are still stuck in the hospital. If yu need anything, let me know.
When I was stuck in the hospital, some nights my DH and my son would come up with a hearty, home cooked meal and we dined together (he likes to cook and is good at it).

Maybe instead, your DH can bring up some of your favorite food and can eat together. I know the hospital's food can be less than desirable! I'd show my nurses the plate and they'd cringe too! LOL

Otherwise, it sounds like a great thanksgiving for everyone!

It'll be fun! When my brother and I were kids, that's how we celebrated every Thanksgiving. My Mom has a very large family and they would all converge on our house for the entire weekend. People would sleep on floors, outside in tents, pretty much anywhere they could find room. Looking back on it, the whole thing was pretty nuts, but we always had a blast!

My dd plays in a ringette tournament called "The Turkey Ring" every Thanksgiving, so I'll be in a rink and/or a hotel with all of our ringette friends Both of my boys have hockey this weekend, so dh will stay home with them and drive them around. I would imagine that they will be having pizza/McD's/Greek food from a friend's restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner, lol!

Hello Theshyone,
Hope they make it special for you. You can still do it next month or whenever you like!

My DD is with her father and coming home on Sunday night. He does not do Thanksgiving I think but maybe has to do pumpkin patch because DD talks him into it.

I will be going on a 'holiday' by myself for the first time. Rented a cabin just a few steps from a lake up in the mountains. I am going with the dog and will bring books and scrapbooking stuff and blankets and so on and just see. I never did this before. I am not a hunter or fisher but longing for some peace and quiet time.

DD comes along on the way back on Sunday night. We will have a scrapbook-all-day-day on Monday with ham and mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie and chocolate and so on.

I got invited to go to Alberta but 1800 km in three days just is not that appealing...

I will probably sign up for overtime at work for Saturday.

Sunday we are going to my parent's house for a ham dinner. I am bringing scalloped potatoes. An aunt from Manitoba and an uncle from Alberta, my dad's sister and brother, are going to be there. I haven't seen either of them for several years. Another aunt/sis who lives in Ontario, but who I haven't seen for a couple of years, will be there as well. I'm really looking forward to getting together with everyone.

Monday I will do a traditional turkey dinner for just our family. Dh loves turkey, so I always cook one for him on Thanksgiving and at Christmas. I could take turkey or leave it, but I make the 'best' stuffing, and gravy, so that makes all the effort worthwhile.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Turkey with my family on Friday at my house...relatively small affair.

Wedding on Saturday night.

Turkey with my inlaws and the extended family on Sunday at a banquet hall because there are around 40ish people including all of the cousins and kids (and that is only who lives in town!).

Monday....ahhhh relax!

Dinner at DH's sisters on Saturday, which will be ham (BIL used to be a chef) and all kinds of goodies. I'm on turnip puff duty. It's always a great party!

Sunday will be dinner at my Mom & Step-dad's condo in Toronto - they booked the party room because we'll be a rather large crowd. I'm on dessert duty (pumpkin pie and pecan pie cheesecake). More sedate of an event, but fun just the same!

Monday will be spent going over all the scholarship sites we can find, looking to see what DD is eligible to apply for, and what is available for early applications. Time to start planning!

We're spending the weekend a few hours north with friends. We're meeting at the summer camp where my friend works but we'll have a small lodge to ourselves--just the 2 families. We'll eat lots (but no traditional Thanksgiving food, we're vegetarians), play games, go canoeing and generally just enjoy being together with friends. We did this 2 years ago and had a fabulous time.

Me too! I'm making (many) pumpkin pie (one will be chai spice) and apple pie. I tried Jamie Oliver's Sweet Short Crust recipe a couple weeks ago and I'm obsessed with it, so I'm going to work with it again.

I am going to camp with my son's air cadets for Friday - Sunday. I am a parent volunteer/camp cook. There is lots of free time so I plan on catching up on my reading.
We will have turkey on Monday for a late lunch.
Thanksgiving really snuck up on me this year, we have had such lovely weather I feel like it is still summer.

Jamie Oliver's Sweet Short Crust recipe

Totally need to google this - pastry is the one thing I really struggle with. Last year I cheated and bought the Pillsbury one that you roll into your own pie dish. Sigh

Jamie Oliver's Sweet Shortcrust

I used vanilla bean instead of lemon zest but I want to play around with that.

I know, right!! I hadn't given it much thought and now it's here.

We're going to my parents's for tg dinner on sunday. It'll be DS' GF's first thanksgiving (she 's from France).

The rest of the weekend will consist of readying the yard for winter, haircuts, recycling, vacation prep and stuff like that
