My bosses wife went to college with Nicholas Sparks. He was in town once and they went to lunch. She knew I loved his books and brought him by the office to surprise me.

It's the only time Scoobers has been absolutely speechless. We sat together for a couple hours and chatted. He's incredibly nice and posed for pictures with me.

I went to high school with Robby Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice. Also with a guy named Bobby Fite. He was JT in Silver Spoons and the boy in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. I'm also friends with the girl who married Roger Clinton, the Presidents brother. Again another high school friend.

I dated Joe from big brother 14 when we were in high school. He wasn't that loud then. That's as close as I got to knowing a celebrity.

She has long past. Fran Allison was my Step Fathers Aunt. From Kukla Fran and Ollie children show. Our family moved into her home in CA for a short time till we were settled in CA. I slept in her husbands bed.(He was passed away.) They had twin beds. LOL! Fran Allison
I go the chicken pox while there. She kept her Emmys on her ironing board table. She had a walk into a sunken tub. Like walk down 2 -3 steps. I would think I could swim in this tub.
She was really nice and I loved her. My baby sister HATED HER! LOL! She also loved her Soaps. I remember we watched Soaps everyday with her. Her Cleaning lady used Pledge to polish the toilets. The things you learn in Hollywood.

Sort-of - my cousin (an ex-Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader) married Nick Spangler, who won Amazing Race with his sister, Starr (who was also a DCC). I guess he's only famous if you watched that season of Amazing Race.

I'm not thinking too clearly tonight, but I'll see which ones I can remember.

My neighbor was Dee Snyder (Twisted Sister). His son went to school with my DD24 from gradeschool. Pretty cool. He and his wife and kids went to every single school concert, play, etc.....

Kevin James ("King of Queens" grew up in my town on LI and went to my kids' schools, except 15 years previous to them attending.

WWE wrestler "Mankind" aka Mick Foley, also lived in my neighborhood and his kids went to school with my kids. When I first met him, he looked like a bum, until I found out who he was!! He was soooooo sweet and I'd see him very often at a local foodstore and he's smile and say hello. He ended up writing childrens' books. What a sweetie!

My best friend went to high school with Mariah Carey, on LI. She didn't have 1 nice thing to say about her though!

I'm sure I could think of more but I'm tired.......

ETA: Billy Joel grew up down the block from my grandparents in Hicksville, LI, NY!! My grandfather would hear them play in his garage sometimes and yell, "That Billy!!! He's bein' so LOUD!!"

I live for the applause applause applause...

I was at a wedding in Florida years ago, this beautiful woman sat beside me, spoke, squeezed my arm....Gladys Knight. I really didn't know who she was and then she left in a long black limo before I could take out my camera!

Probably not a household name, but DH's nephew is an actor who has been in movies with Gwynneth Paltrow, Katie Holmes, Mel Gibson, Dennis Quaid, Freddie Prinz, Jr., Sarah Michelle Geller, Whoopie Goldburg, and a good many others. I list those only to say he's usually a supporting actor with pretty decent to some lesser roles. He has our name, so I'd rather not say his. He's been in two pretty popular TV series with pretty major roles. I also have a cousin who just retired from being a Dallas cowboy cheerleader, if that counts.

I thought this was an autonomous collective

One of my college buddies is a F/SF author - Martha Wells. One of her books was nominated for the Nebula Award (which is a big deal in fantasy and science fiction circles).

I ran around in HS with Richard Garriott who is famous for a couple of things. He's a former game programmer/designer (aka Lord British) and the first second-generation American astronaut. He was our DM in HS. I remember the cool scale solar system in their back yard (his mom has a masters in art and it was one of her projects) and beating his dad (who flew on Skylab and the Shuttle) in solving Rubik's cube.

best I can do is my husband's actually. His great-grandfather's brother was good friends with Jesse James. Someone in the family has a photo of jesse trying to kiss my husband's g-grandfather as a boy. He HATED Jesse and as the photo was taken, jesse tried to kiss him and he turned his head so his g-grandfather's face is a blur.

My husband's ex wife's uncle (great uncle?) is Mickey Mantle. He went to a family reunion or something once and signed a ball for my husband's oldest son. Hubs said he was nice.

Grr! I went to edit because I forgot someone and I accidentally deleted! Copied and pasted it though:

I grew up where Roseanne Barr had lived for a long time in Colorado doing stand-up and married to her first husband (who was a friend of my parents post-Roseanne). I knew of her more than actually knowing her. My parents were close friends with some of the same people she kept in touch with after making it.

I work in security so professionally all I can say is yes. And some of them are my favorite people to talk to!

However my husband has 2 cousins - one is a writer intern on ANT Farm - he will go some place someday but he's still very young. The other cousin is Jennifer Joines-Tamas. She was on the USA's 2008 silver medal winning indoor volleyball team.

ETA: and the reason I was editing it above. My mother grew up with, and is still really good friends with, Alice Wheeler. Alice is a photographer out of Seattle and met Kurt Cobain when he hadn't yet made a name for himself. She became his primary photographer and has really made a name for herself. I love her to death!

I grew up with Kurt Browning. Ate at his house; played at farm; his mom my sisters girl guide leader.
Talked to him at two olympics and his first world championship. Drifted apart after that.

In college partied regularly with the younger Edmonton oilers Wayne Gretzky; and his crew (never slept with them others did).

Then working in high end furniture we designed for many Edmonton oilers; Eskimos; coaches etc. no one I would call a friend; but I had there cell numbers.

I think the most "famous" person though is a neighbor with camp outs; wiener roasts; etc; that is currently on death row fighting execution in Montana. He is guilty!!!! Asked for it; should have got it.

A friend is a TV host and has been for years. Our daughters are close in age and pretty good friends too.

I just found out today that a doctor I used to work with occassionally a few years ago is married to Annie Lennox!

A few high school theater friends have been on various TV shows, but I wouldn't call any of them famous.

There are many semi-famous and famous authors in my town (a university town). For some reason, a number of them are also dance/theater moms and dads, so I "know" them through that.

DH's Aunt was/is friends and classmate of Homer Hickman. He was the kid in the movie October Sky who made the rockets. She was a pretty close friend and said it was strange seeing that time of her life depicted in a movie. They still keep in touch and was invited to attend the premier when the movie opened.Dh's mom was older and already married and moved away during the time of whole rocket story line in the movie but knows the family well also.

I used to hang in the same circles as Grand Funk Railroad back when they were a local band playing Saturday night battle of the bands at the towns ice rink and other small venues.

Very close family friend on soap in the 80's.
Friends who went to high school (Central, in Manchester NH) with Adam Sandler. Some people never change.
I attended college one semester(maybe two, was not keeping track at the time) with David Spade. Incredibly funny and very determined guy.
Dated a guy who is a writer for Jay Leno. Geek.
DD18 dated a boy whose younger sister did various episodic TV.
And I graduated with Alice Cooper. He was receiving his honorary doctorate while I was receiving my actual MBA. Yes, he did perform in addition to "graduating." He is very active at our alma mater.
ExDH grew up with Kurt Cobain-went to middle school and played little league with him. I know there is a yearbook somewhere in the house with him in it. My college roommate used to babysit Cobain. ExDH knew a few random people from the 90's grunge scene, like some of the Green River/Mudhoney/Melvins guys.

Nope. I was at st andrews uni the same year as prince william, but (obviously) never spoke to him.

My mum is friends with Craig Fergusson's sister (they were at school together) and I did some work with her. Her daughter was in the year below me at school and we both ran in music/band circles we were friendly but not friends.

I made out with someone that was mentioned in a previous post just before he became really big. I also dated someone famous and found out watching a talk show that he was married with four daughters. He introduced me to his parents and they never mentioned a thing about him being married. Who introduces the mistress to the parents! I went to elementary through high school with a three time super bowl winner. We had a sucky football team so it was a shock that he ended up in the NFL. I am Facebook friends with him but never see him. I was better friends with his sister as we were in cheer leading together. I worked as a road manager back when I was young and cute to a has been who was married to a famous actress.

The highlight of my celeb encounters was literally running into Sir Paul at Disneyland. I was not cool at all about it My son still makes fun of me about it. I snapped a few pictures before he asked me to stop because he was with his daughter Beatrice. His b word for a wife was with him and she looked pissed off and bored. She never talked to Sir Paul and the only attention little B got was from Sir Paul who was pushing the stroller and the nanny. I was obnoxious and followed him around the whole time he was there. He was escorted around by two Disney employees. He hung out in New Orleans Square rocking out to their music. The musicians never missed a beat. I was just shy of peeing my pants. I am normally cool about celebrities but Paul is the love of my life.

I have met several other celebrities. I lived in LA and I was a seat filler. That was a whole life time ago back when I was young and cute. Now I am old and fat

There is an actor who was on a long running tv show (Ally McBeal), and now pops up in movies and tv shows. I recently saw him playing a judge on Drop Dead Diva, and he is in an upcoming movie with Kevin James (the one about the school, he plays the principal).

Anyway, I grew up across the street from him - we went to middle and high school together, and he was the first boy I ever had a "make out session" with! So weird to see him on the big screen. And I read his bio - it's hilarious that he lies about his age - I KNOW how old he is!

Omg! I love him! Ally McBeal is one of my all time fav tv shows, I still watch the dvds! He's so funny, wonder if he was that way IRL! Thanks for sharing.

I've known a rising country music star for years before he made it big. (not hard to figure that one I am actually better friends with his mom and dad then him anymore. He comes from a great family.. His dad used to hunt with my soon to be ex dh and his grandmother adores my youngest daughter and keeps her on her lap during all concerts/events we attend.

I also went to school with Mike Love's daughter (Beach Boys) her name is Summer Love. She didn't have much of a relationship with her father and I only saw him once. I also went to school with Tori Spellings cousin. She used to spend a few wks every summer with Tori at the Spelling mansion and would come home with all kinds of fabulous new clothes.

My DD was friend's with Mary McDonnell's niece.

My DB's godfather was head of major league umpires for many years. Lots of ball
players and even Howard Cossell came to their house. I remember meeting Carl Yastremski and Louie Tiant.

I am also very distantly related to John Lennon. Never met him, obviously, but I was often asked if I was related to him when I was growing up.

I remember the day he was shot and it was all over the news early in the morning. My mom was still half asleep and couldn't figure out why people were gathering in front of our house...all she heard was the newscaster talking about mourners gathering in front of John Lennon's house.

My oldest son is an Olympic Gold Medalist

My oldest spent a couple of hours with NFL player Bart Scott playing Wii together. I was there too, chatted briefly with him, mostly watched. Nice guy to the kids.

DH & I played Scrabble with Ben Carson one night (he was our DS's neurosurgeon, saved his life). One night while DS was inpatient (one of many) he came to the room on rounds while we were playing Scrabble and asked to jump in. He grabbed some letter tiles and played a few rounds with us. Nice guy, very down to earth and real.

We used to live down the street from a Supreme Court Justice when they were appointed. We would chat while waiting for Chinese takeout at the neighborhood restaurant. Nice guy.

Willard Scott used to visit our church regularly in the 90's, very vibrant man!

I've met a few random celebrities and political peeps but not friendly with them.

My grandson goes to a Taekwondo academy owned by a Gold Medal Olympist. She was the first American and female to win the gold medal back in 1988 (I think), and even against the Koreans, who started that sport.

When I was 18, Bobby Vinton was at our fair, and while he sang, he picked me from the audience and danced me up the aisle. (Does that count? lol)

I know we've had threads in the past about celebs we've MET, but I'm having so much fun learning about celebs you all KNOW (or knew when younger).

I think it is funny that most of you don't give up names. Like they are a pea........

I do not want to suffer any consequences from what I have written. If I was just saying I knew someone that would be one thing. I am saying I smooched one and had an affair with another. Also if I gave specific information regarding the NFL player I know, it would disclose my hometown. I am not sure I want that information out there. All you need sometimes for ID is a mother's maiden name and birthplace. Call me paranoid. It is one thing to have fun on the internet and quite another to get burned on the internet.

I think most people are just trying to protect their identity.

I have met a lot of people that were famous (Charles Schultz, several 49ers back in the Joe Montana era, some NFL football players) and one of my best friends from college was famous for a while in an Indie band. I didn't stay in contact with any of them so I don't really know anyone famous now.

I am sure I told you before that I met Steve Perry (more than just a hi).. I'll leave it at that cause I don't want to repeat myself a dozen times. NICE guy.

Ooh, tell it again! Tell it again!

Everyone knows how much I love Steve so I've heard lots of stories about meetings with him. I'm still waiting for my turn

My turn to hit the PEAnata!!!

Oh and how can I forget!?!? My brothers were boxers and trained at the same time as Oscar de la Hoya and Sugar Shane Mosley; while they didn't train at the same gym (because they were all in different clubs) they sparred and of course fought each other often while as amateurs.

It's been wonderful to see their careers explode the way they did and it's always been fun to catch up with them at large fight venues in vegas.

As for not giving up my friends name? I feels kinda wierd...maybe because he's pretty current right now and it feels strange as if I'm NOT supposed to divulge - yet I am?!?! It's strange...

My parents were good friends with Tim Bachman, brother of Randy Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I used to play with Tal Bachman's cousins, but I've never met Randy or Tal. Tim was in the band for a bit tho!

My brother's best friend was in a season of Canadian Idol and I did photography for his first CD and some publicity photos.

The most famous person I met and talked to was probably June Allyson , an MGM star from the golden age. She was so sweet and lovely.

A friend of mine from HS was a regular on one of the CSI shows for 6 or 7 years. She was the assistant DA so obviously on a lot. I am very close friends with one of the most famous scrappers in the industry.

ETA: I can't believe I forgot this: my parents were friends with Mitt Romney's parents years ago in Michigan. I also worked in DC for US Senator and met lots of famous political people during those years.
