Our anniversary isn't really until Sunday, but my husband and son will be gone all weekend at a ball tournament, so we took the day off today to hang out together. Of course, he's still in bed...so I'm sitting here waiting...just like our first date, 22 years ago. 
Here we were, just kids; neither of us knowing what was ahead...I really do love him more every single day (when I don't want to punch him).   |

Thank you! I hear him up there bumping around now. He must have smelled the Banana Nut muffins I made him...not from scratch or anything, we're talking 17 years, not 50! 
And Kristina, I'm hoping that we can go somewhere tropical for our 20th...gives us a couple of years to save. |

Happy Anniversary! My anniversary is on Tuesday. I just posted this conversation I had with my 8 yr. old on Facebook yesterday.
Jackson: "Mom, when is your Anniversary?"
Me: "It's on Tuesday."
Jackson: "So what kind of cookies will you be making?"
Me: "I wasn't planning on making cookies."
Jackson: "It's the most important day of your life Mom! How could you not make cookies???"
Me: " I see your point."
Jackson: "I think Peanut Butter would be good. The ones with the frosting."

I actually got this recipe from a pea a long time ago. I think it was TanyaB. My kids love it. Here is the recipe.
Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies
1/2 c. butter (real)
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. peanut butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. packed brown sugar
3 eggs
1 t. vanilla extract
3 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
Frosting Filling:
1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
2-1/2 c. confectioner's sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
milk, as needed
Mix together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl and set aside. In mixer, combine butter, shortening, peanut butter, and sugar until well mixed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add vanilla. Add flour mixture to this and incorporate well.
Using small melon ball scoop, make 1 " balls and place 2" apart on parchment lined cookie sheets. Flatten to 3/8" with fork. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes or until golden. Remove to racks to cool.
Filling: In large mixing bowl, beat peanut butter, confectioner's sugar, vanilla and enough milk to make a spreading consistency (I eye-balled it).
Spread filling on top of a cookie and find another cookie that matches in size and push down to make a sandwich. Store in an air-tight container. |

We were talking at lunch this week about how the things you thought were so cute and quirky when you are dating, are the same things that are annoying as heck now, but you just shrug them off. The one young girl in the group went off about how she can't imagine finding her husband annoying and we all just laughed. One woman said, "talk to my when you hit 48 years. Thank you, everyone, for the well wishes and compliments.
We had a great time...as any wife of 17 years would do, I manipulated him into taking me to see Pitch Perfect...which was awesome and even he liked it (once he was past the initial WTH feeling) and then met my sister and her husband for drinks afterward. We were home by 11 and in bed watching last Tuesday's DVR'd episode of Sons of Anarchy before the kids got home.

You were in bed waiting for him to get up *before* your first date?
Actually, it's kind of a funny story...now.
We had made a bet about a basketball game and I lost...so I had to take him to dinner. He was the first person I'd gone out with since splitting with my ex husband and I was really nervous.
It was a Friday, I had rushed straight to the mall from work to buy a new outfit and rushed home to get ready. He was supposed to meet me at my house at 7:00. By 8:30, I was still sitting at home, alone, waiting. I was devastated and angry at having been stood up. Not because I liked him that much but because I really needed that little boost of esteem at that point and rejection was NOT something I wanted to deal with again right then. Needless to say, I was not a happy person that night.
I was watching television and throwing various breakable items against the wall ( ) when he finally showed up...two and a half hours LATE.
I have no idea why I even let him in the door and I almost never went out with him again, but we ended up watching Ghost and he stayed until 4:30 that morning.
The rest is history.
But, yeah...that first day was spent waiting on him...just like yesterday. Only yesterday I knew where he was. |
