When I bought my BigKick, it came with a "multi-purpose platform" and 2 clear cutting boards. No die. My first die was an aphla set that I got with a coupon, but I think you could probably go to most craft stores and find a die that you think you might use quite a bit (flowers, hearts, stars) and start cutting. I also mark my die pkgs with the "sandwich" that I need to use so I don't have to look it up each time. Have fun. Maria

For a die, pick a basic shape that you know you will use, as is, by altering or cutting a part off etc. Did it come with a multipurpose platform? If so, most dies/embossing folders will work in it. In general sandwiches are only needed if you do not have the multipurpose platform.

The only plate you may need is the thin metal plate for the wafer thin dies. I don't remember where I got mine at. Most of the places that carry the wafer thin dies should carry it. It cost about $15.00. I have used a piece of thin chipboard as a shim if I needed one before I got the metal plate.
I bought my BK years ago and have been very happy with it.
As far as a good starter die goes, you can use most dies with your BK. I think the only ones that don't work are the very large dies. When you buy a die it should say if it is compatible with the BK. If you are not sure you can always post your ? here and I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.
You might want to check out youtube. There are some great videos on the BK. Enjoy your new tool.
7 years to get here... So now what?

I found a sandwiching cheat sheet on line (just google big shot cheat sheet) and I have it hanging above my desk so it's always available! Helps a ton! As for "starter dies"... it really depends on what you like-flourishes, stars, flowers... There are hundreds of dies available!
