If you saw yesterday's post about the rails I put up on the wall to hold some of my Martha Stewart punches, you may also be interested to see what is under that wall. This is in my scrapbook loft and it's a small wall with a window on the right and the left is the railing that overlooks the living room below.

If you care to read more about it you can look at my my blog for the post.

Do you find this storage method makes you use them more because they are in sight or less because you need a stool to reach them all?

Also do the punches actually touch the wall and if so do you find they mark it up?

My punches have always been in sight because they were on the bookcase. But I wanted to clear some more storage space, so that's why I moved them up onto the wall. I can't say I use them a lot, but definitely more than if they were tucked away in a drawer. Also, I don't need a stool to reach them. I can reach even the top row in my bare feet.

Are you really tall or is the height of the wall and optical illusion? Because it looks like the top row is like 7ft up and with the shelf in front I was thinking how my little short self could make something like this work. I don't have as many punches but I was thinking the idea could be adapted slightly for other things. I don't always think of going up with storage so I was just trying to figure out the logistics.

Also did you find you needed to use special anchor bolts to handle the weight of the punches?

Wow! I have me some punch envy right now

I love how all of yours are out and in sight, I still have some in drawers and bins, need to get more of those Bygel rails!!!

Even with my E and spellbinders, and Sizzix, I still love my punches! Quick and easy!!!

Okay...so now you've got me reaching up to my punches with a ruler in hand! LOL I am just average height at 5'6" and when I reach up for the handle of a punch on the top row it's about another 19", so that really is about 7 ft. like you thought is was.

I was guessing by the look of the room. I'm only 5'3" so I'm betting a few inches would matter. I think a scaled down version would still be cute.

Do you have issues with the wall being marked up and did you have to use any special hardware in the walls because of the weight?

I think Martha owes you a great big thank you for single handedly keeping her in business. That's a lot of punches.

What do you mean by the wall being marked up? Do you mean from taking them on and off the rail? The punches don't leave any marks...so far...but I just did this. I've moved them around though and I don't have marks. But if I did I would use the Magic Eraser to take care of them.

No special hardware. I screwed into a stud on the right side, but not on the left. Technically I should have used anchors, but I didn't want really big holes since we are only renting right now. It seems sturdy enough. I told my husband they will probably all fall off the wall in the middle of the night and scare the c*@&p out of us!

Oh yes...for sure! I have been a fan of Martha's since 1989, so punches are not the only thing. Let's see, I have every single magazine from her Living series since it began over 20 years ago, almost every single book she has published (and even duplicates, since people give them to me as gifts, not knowing I usually buy them the day they are released!). Every copy of Everyday Food magazine. A ton of her scrapbook papers and embellishments...well, you get the picture!
