I am looking for a new phone without a contract/bill. I am debating between MetroPCS and Straight Talk. Your likes, dislikes, problems with service, etc..

Has anybody used either or both?? Is one any better than the other? My girlfriend and her family use MetroPCS and are extremely happy with it and my dad and his wife use Straight Talk and are extremely happy with that!! LOL!

Advice greatly appreciated. I need to make the switch asap!

thanks!

I don't know about either, but I'm pretty sure MetroPCS was just bought by T-Mobile if I remember right. If that is the case, we have T-Mobile and have had it since 1999 and love them and their prices...I wish they'd get the iPhone, but allegedly, according to the person from T-Mobile who called us the other day to thank us for being such loyal customers , they are working on getting the iPhone. However, I've heard that since the 3G LOL...

I really didn't want a "bill" I like the idea of buying a card and activitating it and I'm done for the month, no worries about getting the bill paid. Thats the one bummer about MetroPCS. So thats where my dilema comes in. Like the non-bill from Straight Talk but like alot of things about MetroPCS.

I've been reading rave reviews on the phone I was interested in from MetroPCS and my friend just made a comment that her husband travels constantly all over the U.S. and has never EVER had an issue with his phone in regards to dropped calls, reception, etc.

Look at the coverage maps for the particulars phones you are interested in.
Some straight talk phones run on T-mobile and/or sprint, some on AT&T, some on Verizon.

Coverage is better with MetroPCS for my area. I went to Walmart after I posted that to look at their phones, and wasn't too crazy about Straight Talk after talking to the guy who works there. Was really interested in a TMobile pay-as-you-go 4G phone, but it requires a 50 dollar a months data plan and they didnt have any cards to buy to activate that! He said they had been out quite a while. Dont know if it was just that Walmart or if it's a popular phone and they just constantly sell out? But that's not something I want to have to worry about...

You can buy a card or renew online. There is no requirement to have a physical card.

There are newer model straight-talk android phones that use the AT&T and Verizon network. The maps are on the package, in additon to the older ones that use T-mobile and Sprint network.

I think. With the merger, MetroPCS will still stay "pay-as-you-go", sorry, didn't mean to imply otherwise...

My daughter had MetroPCS when she lived in CA and called it MetroPOS. And THAT is all I know other than I have an HTC One S on T-Mobile and LOVE my phone AND T-Mobile. They do not win the highest cutomer service ratings for nothing! I have had them since 2003.

Wow MetroPOS is pretty harsh....lol!! Good to know! I am thinking now that I know I can buy the card at a Walmart or a TMobile store OR buy a code online I feel much better about going with that. I really do NOT want a bill which is what I would still get with MetroPCS.

Thanks guys I think I need to head back to Walmart tomorow or Friday and see if they still have them. They only had 2 left when I was there today and there were other people looking at them!
