Hi everyone. Lots of changes today, as it seems most of you noticed.

Thank you for all of the positive comments. Like any change there's an adjustment period and also new bugs that we don't anticipate. I'd like to ensure any technical problems are addressed and appreciate your patience as we find and correct things.

To make things easier to follow, I'll update this post with changes I make in response to some reported trouble.

Also, I'd like to thank Kristina, TJ, Kevin, and Rob for putting in a lot of hours and working through a lot of frustration to make everything look great. A special thanks to Ann-Marie Morris for the great design work!

Thanks everyone!

Jeffrey

I agree on the color. I can only take about 10 min. tops before my eyes start throbbing. And it's really hard to see the post topics on the main page. Other than the coloring, I think it's a lot easier to use, but if the white stays, I won't get to use it much anyway.

This made me laugh. Where's your sense of adventure?! White is where it's at!

No, all joking aside, we wanted to have a very clean look and we're admittedly attracted to other shopping sites that have similar looks. gap.com, jcrew.com, nike.com, etc. Community sites that are white? How about facebook.com!

We love it and hopefully you'll end up liking it, too. Oh and since people were asking, this is not an in-between state, but the new two peas!

Thanks!

The all white is a little much - especially for reading purposes. soften the background color, and it will be better.

shopping in with white is ok - shows off the colors, but to read is hard.

Love the new look and the latest fixes ... thank you!!

My only remaining complaint is that our pea names are so easy to miss. I'd love to see them bigger and/or darker and/or bolded, anything other than grayed out the way they are now.

And just curious, are the ads coming back? I enjoyed them.

THANK YOU!!

Hi Jeffrey.

Could you possibly make the linked gray a little bit darker for us older Peas, so that we can see it better without having to hunt up glasses? That would be most helpful.

I do like the fresh look.

Thanks for getting the Bookmark and Post Count working.

I love it. I too am impressed to see changes like the jump and reply buttons popping up so quickly.

I am surprised so many find the white so difficult. There are so many other websites out there that use white prominently -- it gives such great contrast! I have super sensitive eyes (fluorescent lights give me migraines), but the message board doesn't bother me at all. I actually find it much easier and more enjoyable to read.

the jump and reply button.

Could the tone of the gray in the opposite posts be a tad bit darker? I think thayt would tone down the white. It's very hard to differentiate between posts.

So, now I know why I never go to any of those other sites. If the white must stay could font be black or the grey darkened? Sorry, the white really hurts.

Bye for now

Like I said in the other post aside from the white and grey it looks great!

Just noticed that you can edit your title, but it does not show the change.

Thanks for all of the hard work that you guys have put into making the Peas website better for us.

For the Peas that are having trouble with the white hurting your eyes, it you go into your computer settings and adjust the brightness, it might make it easier to view while reading. It helps on mine.

That's always been the case. The corrected title shows up on the board list (the NSBR main page or whatever), but not inside the thread.

Only sometimes it DOES change inside the thread. Eventually.

Whatever.

But, GeekPea, I am not on THOSE websites for hours - and I've gone back and forth between this and facebook and facebook feels different. It's broken up with blue bars and ads and photos....

I appreciate the desire for clean lines, but on FB or any of the other sites you mentioned there are a lot of graphics on the sides, not just white space.

I do really like all the other changes

I read usually on my iPad, and I cannot do the "hover" over to see extra pea info.....or to see the manufacturers in the store......that is probably my biggest gripe. Put the manufacturers BACK under the pictures. Yes, I know there is a 2peas app.....I don't care for it.....why quit my Safari browsing, JUST to launch an app to see one web page? I do all my browsing in Safari....not in individual apps. And, yup, the white is very jarring to read.

I agree with the others that we are not just shopping here, but we do a ton of reading also and the white is blinding. The troble with dimming it on my computer is that it makes everything else funny too and the contrast is TO much!!

The font color needs work.
BTW: On FB the posters names are in blue and that gives the eye a stop/start point, someplace to rest. Pls change the font color to darken & use another color to break it up a bit.
Thx

I think it's really disappointing that so many of us are having a hard time with all the bright white, and it's clearly a problem and yet it won't be fixed. I know I'm not a big poster, but I spend A LOT of time lurking here and I would learn so much about this great hobby, but now I won't be able to be here that much at all. In the short time I have been here, I already have one of those awful headaches behind my eyes. It's just too much of a strain to try to see the posts. I'm really sad that they won't fix this for us.

I do agree with many others that the visited links color is too light, especially against the gray highlight of every other line. Is it possible to up the gray a notch or two on visited links?

thanks!

Well I for one LOVE the look. I LOVE your inspiration sites, so this just falls in line with the direction that I was thinking Two Peas should go in...

It's funny that the site is updated today because just a week or so ago, I was thinking about how dated I thought the website/logo looked. I definitely prefer this style.

Admittedly the white was a bit bright for me, but I turned down the brightness on my mac, and MUCH better!

The tone on tone greys are a little hard for me to read even with my glasses, and I would consider myself a 'young' pea with 'young' eyes (at the right bold age of 26), lol.

I suppose I can brighten up my screen a little which will highlight the difference and eventually my eyes will adjust to the white, but I do like the crisp, modern, contemporary look. Love the 'in a' "arrow" as I guess it would be called, just cute, cute, and I love the bold drop down as the top of the screen, BIG and bold great for navigating.

My only two cents: the ad on the main page, slides by so fast that I can't read the brand name and look at the line for a second before it shows the next ad. If it could stay up for say...1-2 seconds that would be such loveliness.

Thanks two peas for the updates... will you be updating the phone app to be similar? Just curious.

I am ADDICTED to my phone app; that is what really got me back into lurking and posting on the MB again.

Count me in on the too white it hurts bandwagon. I have to use a computer all day at work and do not want to spend my free time staring at a screen that makes my head hurt.

I do thank you for adding the post count and location back, at least we'll know where to find it even though it was so much nicer being in the post with the person's name. Just adds extra time that I could spend on the site.

The link color is too close to the same and with the blinding white it makes it hard to see where the link actually is.

The comment box for layout praise doesn't go away when you post a praise until you refresh the layout.

You may want "new and in" but it is the "old and faithful" crowd that has made you the number one website. If you're getting feedback that it is painful to read in this bright color you may want to tone it down or you won't have anyone left to read it at all.

Comments that are just my opinion:
I do think the white is very bright. I don't mind it as much on the shopping page or the gallery because there are a lot of different colors, but on the message board it is a little much. I also agree that the gray for the posts I've visited is kind of light.
I don't mind the hover over on the pea names, but I wish I didn't have to do it on the shopping page. I like to know what company it is and it takes extra time to hover over each item.
I think the speech bubbles in the comments are cute but wish the commenters photo were bigger. My comments "took" but the box stayed and didn't appear that the comment went through.
I think I will miss the trivia question and the most popular threads on the front page.
Well, for what they are worth those are my thoughts right now.

It is a lot like Facebook, I like it. My only complaint is there isn't enough contrast. Like read threads, our names, should have more of a color like a light green instead of the light gray. It just needs to pop more. Facebook is very white but posts, names, titles are all blue.

Geek, if you're listening, great update. Just a little more contrast!

This made me laugh. Where's your sense of adventure?! White is where it's at!

Hmmm....I don't see why our inability to comforably read what's on the site should make you laugh. I would think that the powers that be would be more concerned that everyone over 40 is going to make a mass exodus since the grey on white is so difficult for us to read...or is that demographic not important enough...???

my big issue with the white is I have a 23inch widescreen monitor and it's a lot of white around the part of the page that actually has text. So far this afternoon evening I've only been able to spend at most about 5 minutes before my eyes really start to hurt, and I've had to put on my glasses. The rest of the changes look great.

Hopefully the page full of white gets toned down..or an Android app appears.

Guess the powers that be don't care that the white is painfully bright....or that so many people on the boards are having a hard time with it.

I love the cleaner look..just not the white. It will definitely affect how much time I spend here. It's too hard to look at for any length of time.

Replacement Jump menu activated at bottom of page (left side jumps to list of current forum, dropdown to select other boards)

But will it be coming back to the bottom of the forum list of topics? I see it now at the bottom of each thread.

@GeekPea - Can we please have the 'Featured Project' graphic reduced in size? Or at least displayed only on the first photo of the project.

Here is an example where half the project is obscured by the graphic.

I do like the overall design, very fresh and clean. I will chime in with the others who find so much white a bit overwhelming when reading for more than a few minutes. I don't have the ability to turn the brightness down on my monitor (long story) so I guess I'm stuck with it. I just went to Facebook to compare, and I think the big difference is that there are ads in the sidebar instead of so much blank space, and usually a lot of pictures being posted, that help to break up the whiteness. Just my opinion. I'm certainly not going to stop visiting the site over the design changes, but I definitely will not be able to sit and read forum posts for very long.

Guess the powers that be don't care...

It doesn't even matter what comes after that part of the sentence... I could see myself getting lost in a debate about a lot of this, but let me just say for the record that we do care. And the suggestion that we are just chasing new users and don't care about our long-term residents of two peas is just ludicrous. The problem, I guess, is that I wouldn't expect my resident peas to be so quick to judge us for trying to spruce up the site a bit and within minutes of something new threaten to leave before we barely have a chance to READ the posts, let alone radically change core components of a new design we've spent months preparing. I've been here for 13 years and I can emphatically assure you that our members are the very first thought in our efforts. I am one of the "Powers" and probably your biggest advocate. Some of the most hurtful comments and threats seem to come from people (accounts) that have never purchased here, outright promote other sites or who I discover after digging are actually employed by our competitors... Which is fine. I have thick enough skin and have taken my share of punches, but if you're a legitimate user of the site, then you know we're a very small company and we do the best we can.

I apologize... I won't get on my box about this again, but I just want everyone to know that we're a family of passionate people ever wanting to improve the site as a whole and always have our customers and supporters at heart.

Anyway. The overall white background isn't likely to change, but if I can infer from some of your notes, does improving the alternating background of posts help? On this thread only, I've updated it from white to a light gray. Better?

J

No, because the delta between the two colors is still too small. I think it might be better if you left the one post white and increased the gray a few notches. Can you try that out?

thanks!

I like it better now the way this thread looks. With NO WHITE posts at all. None.

Question-are you going to fix the board so URLs are automatically hyperlinked? This is standard for message board and honestly, this is the only board I've ever been to (and I am a message board junkie) that doesn't automatically hyperlink.

Thank you!!! for bolding and coloring the pea name font, and graying down the pea title. Much easier to see the pea name on each post.

I hate the way the forum jump is now. If I am surfing multiple forums, I don't want to use the 'return to last list' button because it might take me to a whole different forum. I also don't want to use my browser's back button since so many threads are multiple pagers and I don't want to click back to every single page I've just read. In the past, I could just click on "go" on the jump list because the forum showing would always be the one I'm on. Now it's an extra step to choose it in the drop-down every time and I don't want to scroll to the top to click back to the forum page. Can you at least put the forum links (NSBR, General Scrapping, etc ) that you are currently reading in on the bottom as well as the top?
