I'm loving the new site. I've always been a fan of white backgrounds and sites with a more streamlined look.
I think after a few days and some kinks worked out people might like it even better than the old one. Thumbs up from me

I would think that the powers that be would be more concerned that everyone over 40 is going to make a mass exodus
Everyone? I'm 53, have Exotropia, and was a bit disoriented at first. But now I'm liking the changes very much. So no, I don't think "everyone" over 40 will be leaving.

Jeffrey, the new changes in this thread are helping. Changing the font color on the pea names definitely makes them stand out now. I love the hover feature, and the room it frees up.

Have you considered making the badges smaller, or giving us the option of turning them on/off? Also, where's the bucket? How can Two Peas in a Bucket be Two Peas in a Bucket without two peas in a bucket?

Last of all, I'm sure you have no memory of me whatsoever, but we met at the Pea Dinner in Anaheim oh-so-many years ago, and I'm glad to see you are still willing to put up with us and take our recommendations seriously.

They mentioned gap and jcrew as inspiration. I get it, clothes/colors pop so trying to sell stuff it makes sense. But the forum section with lots of reading with no color and grey text? at least jcrew uses black text. Will the app be changed because I will pea from there exclusively from now on.

Overall it's a nice site, it's like 2peas suddenly grew up, but I can't stay here for long before my head starts to hurt. I like wasting time here on 2 peas but can honestly say that if I plan to spend more than 10-15 mins here I'm going to need sunglasses. I can't really complain as the site is free, but I'll be spending less and less time here.

While I generally like the new streamlined look, I do think it needs more of a contrast...

But now that you've spent all your time on this, can we get an Android app? Not everyone belongs to the cult of Apple.

The white is too blinding, I can't stay on long at a time before it starts bothering my eyes. HERE is where I normally hang out, NOT Facebook.

Here's a link to a thread on the Stamping Board as we try to navigate the new Two Peas: New Two Peas.

You'll find some interesting problems that haven't yet been discussed here.

I've put in Service Tickets to alert Matt about things that are not working so maybe you already know about them. I'm sure that with some tweaking those things will be taken care of.

I'm beginning to get use to the new format, but I am very sorry to hear that the white, gray, and paler gray color scheme is not up for discussion. I find it very difficult to watch my screen and to read the posts.

Thank you for listening.

I'm sorry. I do NOT like the new colours. Too much white. I have only been on for 5 mins and I already have a terrible headache.

The overall design I like. The colour is awful.

I'm going back and forth from here to Facebook, and I think the difference with Facebook is that it has blue splitting up the bright white. I think it's nice of 2peas to be considering our thoughts on this site. I must admit that I haven't purchased anything in a long time. I think people have been turned off to ordering here because of things that have happened in the past- things not being in stock, credit card numbers being used against customers. However, I'm not a competitor. I don't link to competitors. I spend my time here bringing traffic to your site, and I think of that as contribution- even if I'm not buying anything. I posted earlier today that I wasn't fond of some of the changes, but I'll probably get used to it. I'm finding it hard to read thread titles- especially ones that have been read and kind of blend in to the color behind it.

There are other changes that we've requested in the past. I'd love to see some of them implemented. A "like" button would be awesome!

Yes Geek! I like the light gray/dark gray alternating posts. Please do it on the stamping forum too! As someone on the photography forum expressed, with "too much white" the posts just seem to float.

Matt, the light grey/dark grey definitely helps. Please do that everywhere.

I'm sorry to hear the white background is non-negotiable as the huge amount of white space IS hard on the eyes (I'm 38 and don't wear glasses) Even a subtle shading would help...

Other than that, I like it

The alternation is good, but a bit darker would be great. The site is easier to look at in my Nexus 7. So it must be a wide screen monitor issue. The site doesn't feel really setup for wide screen which seems odd as most screens are these days, but I don't do Web design I leave that to the professionals that's just my observations from using different devices.

I hate the way the forum jump is now. [clipped]

Have you considered using tabs? I always have one tab open on a "base" page - say, General Scrappin' or the gallery - and then I use mouse-middle-click (the same as CTRL-click or right click -> open in new ta. Then when I've read everything, I close the tabs. That way I can open all the threads I want to read on the first page of the board without ever manuevering away from the main board. I think most websites now are moving toward an understanding that people are using tabbed browsing.

I'm actually trying to remember how I browsed before tabs became popular!

I think the problem here is that 2Peas may not be playing to its audience. Young (>35 for the sake of this particular comment) are not particularly common, and from what I'v seen of people having issues with sil software or photoshop, a good chunk of Peas aren't particularly tech savvy. That's fine, but it definitely might explain why I love the new site and others can't stand it.

Where's your sense of adventure?! White is where it's at!

No, all joking aside, we wanted to have a very clean look and we're admittedly attracted to other shopping sites that have similar looks. gap.com, jcrew.com, nike.com, etc. Community sites that are white? How about facebook.com!

But, GeekPea, I am not on THOSE websites for hours - and I've gone back and forth between this and facebook and facebook feels different. It's broken up with blue bars and ads and photos....

So, now I know why I never go to any of those other sites. If the white must stay could font be black or the grey darkened? Sorry, the white really hurts.

i don't care about being hip and fab...i just want to read about scrapbooking and i can't do that if i have a blinding headache

Hmmm....I don't see why our inability to comforably read what's on the site should make you laugh. I would think that the powers that be would be more concerned that everyone over 40 is going to make a mass exodus since the grey on white is so difficult for us to read...or is that demographic not important enough...???

It's nice and clean, but unfortunately I am signing off. I can't handle the "whiteness".

I do use tabs but usually have several tabs already open from other sites and try not to have dozens of tabs at once. And I don't want to middle click for every thread every time.

The updated site looks great! I love the white.

The old site was just way too busy and had way too much going on. I like that the new site is less cluttered and a lot easier to read and navigate.

I like some things, I'm not so keen on some but I'm sure I'll get used to most of it, so I won't rush to judgement overall.

The two things that I am immediately finding most problematic are both on the message boards.

1 - Peanames being below the avatars. I much prefer them at the top - that helps give the 'resting place' for the eyes others have talked about, and helps divide posts up in the same way alternating colours do. Particularly as many people do not have avatars and those that do vary in size, I'm finding it quite difficult to see posters' names - I have to actively look for them, whereas it felt much more natural with names at the top.

2 - Lack of location information. I know it's there on the rollover, but as an international Pea I don't think that's enough - as a rule Peas are not going to rollover everyone's location before responding to a post. Many discussions I take part in, both SBR and NSBR, are noticeably influenced by location. On SBR, anything to do with product availability and pricing in particular. On NSBR, even more so - and it was hard enough sometimes getting Peas to recognise that they're not just responding to fellow US Peas and that some of us have geographical reasons for the different perspectives we share even when my location was on display. Even silly things such as getting handslapped for spelling 'mistakes'!

No creative title here...

Love the new look and love that you are open to feedback! It think it's fresh and with lots of good details.

I like the shades of grey on this thread - it definitely helps with the eye strain. There is still a bit too much white side margin, but coloring the posts is a great improvement.

Glad to see that the member details are coming back. I love the details that used to show up.

Overall - loving the new look.

I missed this thread entirely, despite actively browsing the page for such a thread, so I started another by mistake. lol! Sorry about that, guys! But here's my feedback:

I love the fresh modern Pinterest look! My first impression yesterday was "Wooohooo! Gorgeous!"

White and bright is what everyone wants for their web sites right now. Although Pinterest actually has a very light greyish hue in the background and NOT a bright white one. Well, if I get cataracts when I get old - I'm blaming this new web design trend! Put your sunglasses on, please!

But there are a few things that's starting to bother me:

1. I do miss the post count, and for a short while I thought I didn't see the pea titles either but now I do.

2. And I agree that the light grey text on followed links is far too light. Hard to read because there is so little contrast. The darker grey is fine. Maybe you could exchange the light grey for that Tiffany blue one?

3. Also, the store suddenly got more Pinterest than Pinterest itself. It's very frustrating to have to hover with the mouse cursor over the image to see which brand and collection the product comes from. Put some descriptive text beneath the images, thank you!

Apart from these few small complaints, I love the new look! Great job!

Great new look. I didn't see it coming so it was a wonderful shock this morning. I've been around awhile and it was a long overdue change. I haven't investigated everything yet but it looks good. I like the "hover" feature with our peaname. I do like the alternating grey and white with the messages.

Added voice to the "link" issue. I would like to see the inserting of URL's a bit easier.

Thanks guys.

I read usually on my iPad, and I cannot do the "hover" over to see extra pea info.....or to see the manufacturers in the store......that is probably my biggest gripe.

I'm on my iPad enough that this is a concern of mine as well.

Thanks for the gray inserts. They are helpful.

And I agree - we need the LOGO somewhere!!

WOW! Was I surprised when I clicked on my bookmark and came to Two Peas this morning.

Here is my initial reaction with only a limited amount of time to cruise parts of the site:

1. I love the white background in the gallery. It really helps make the layouts POP. It is almost like they are works of art in a gallery.

2. I find that so much white in the forums does make it difficult to read. I noticed that some of the posts were in a grey background. When those posts were showing, it did help tone down the brightness of all of the white and made it easier to read. I have also noticed that when there are several posts on the screen that have moe "color" in them from signatures, etc. the white doesn't seem so bright.

I am sure that I will have other comments later, when I have had more time to move around and check things out.

Like others I'm getting used to the new look. But I guess my biggest problem is the font colors. Some of us older peas - or at least me! - have a hard time with the greys and blues used. It's just hard to see sometimes even with my glasses. If I can't see it, I won't read it!

If the white white white can't be changed then how about the contrasting color for the posts that we've already read. I can hardly tell the difference between those posts and ones I haven't opened. Since I skip a lot of posts I like to be able to see at a glance as I scroll down which ones I've read and/or commented on. But at the moment the contrast is hardly there at all. The already-read ones are a light grey which is silly when the font color is already practically the same. Thank you.

And yes, I'm sure someone has already mentioned that in this thread but I can't bear to read through the entire thread because it hurts my eyes.

The problem, I guess, is that I wouldn't expect my resident peas to be so quick to judge us for trying to spruce up the site a bit and within minutes of something new threaten to leave before we barely have a chance to READ the posts, let alone radically change core components of a new design we've spent months preparing.

I do understand that you've spent months preparing this new look.

I love the new look - it's clean, neat, organized.

But honestly? The BRIGHT white is killing me as well. I had a headache yesterday, before checking out the site, so it didn't help. This morning, I thought I'd give it a second go (and normally, I do spend hours on here every week) - but I've been surfing and reading this thread for 5 minutes, and I'm getting another headache. It is TOO bright.

I get it, it's your new look, you love it, you want everybody else to as well. But when I read this thread, and at least 80-90% of the response is CHANGE THE WHITE - digging your heels in and saying the white isn't likely to change - isn't helping.

The white is a nice, clean look - I do enjoy the look. But you need to soften the brightness of the colour selection!

I have had glasses since third grade for severe nearsightedness - so I am NOT a fan of the white either, my eyes begin to hurt anyway after reading for awhile and now it's a much quicker process - might there be a way for those of us who can't take the white to change the default in our own browser/computer (and perhaps that's impossible, but it's just a thought I had) ... I also wanted to report that in the gallery, where the original poster made comments about the layouts - there is <lots of code in brackets> which make the comments pretty impossible to read. Thanks for listening to our feedback.

I like that the look isn't as cluttered, but I hate the white. It's too hard and harsh on the eyes. I can only spend a limited amount of time reading here. As far as comparing it to FB, they have blue breaking up all of the white. If there's an up side, it's that I guess I'll get more work done since I won't be pea-ing as much!

Hard to see the + to add a comment too. Is there a bigger button that could be used or make it a color to be easier to find?

Honestly I love the new look!

I think it's very clean and simple. The white doesn't bother me at all.

I really don't understand the peas that are threatening to leave. Do you think they're going to change the design because a small number of posters are unhappy? Probably no. It's fine to voice your opinion but the threats are a bit much. You don't see the powers to be at Amazon asking for feedback.

It really comes down to the old saying "you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time."

Right Geek, but those sites have lots of photos of merchandise to take up more of the white space. All this white and just type is too much. Hopefully you'll reconsider.

I like it, it looks so nice and clean.

I would love a feature button, that took me to the last read post in the individual thread, like the "ny" in the picture below (I circled a couple in red). When I click it, it takes me to the last post I read, and it makes it so much easier to follow a thread.

If there's already such a feature, enlighten me please

I agree with Ann. Maybe it's because I have a 23 inch monitor but it is blindingly bright. I LOVE the look, don't get me wrong- it's GORGEOUS, but it just HURTS to read through the forums.

I think people only say things like "Guess the powers that be don't care" because other people (not the powers that be) have responded rudely to the complaints.

Jeffrey-I'm sorry you took offense to my post. Your previous post stated that the changes were a "done deal." I didn't mean that people would leave because the site had changed...it is a medical fact that people over 40 have a hard time with low contrast colors. I simply can't read the threads because of the grey tones. I won't be here, because there is no point hanging out at a site that I can't read. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm loving the new modern, clean and fresh look! Personally I liked the look even better when the pea names weren't in the turquoise, but I understand that it does make them easier to read now.

However, I can't find the Featured Project of the day! I know it exists still, but I can't for the life of me find it. Help!

Thanks for "introducing" the new look Jeffrey. Everything looks fresh and clean. It'll take me a little while to get used to the white and some of the features, but I look forward to discovering them (I never discovered all the ones on the old format - somewhat techo-challenged!) I really like the teal color that you've used for the PeaNames and to highlight items. And the hover "magic" over the PeaNames is cool! I do miss seeing the little bucket at the top - maybe it could be a hover thingie too? Thanks again for running such a great site. Maria

Well, if the white isn't going, and this is pretty much a "done deal," I don't think I'll be hanging around much. My eyes really hurt. I don't spend much time on Facebook or any of the other sites that have this look. I come here to read, share, and learn; but I can't do it if I have to keep looking away from the screen because my eyes hurt. I know that you can't please everyone; but if so many people are having problems reading the posts, it's rather dismissive to say that "the white isn't going anywhere." Just my two cents.

I thought I was having computer problems when I logged on and saw the new site.

Personally, I like it. A fresh new look.

Gotta give the Geek Peas props for all their hard work.

I am not a fan of change but I think I can get used to this, it looks very sophisticated. I have to agree with the other ladies about the whiteness. I don't think I'll be able to be here as long because it's really hurting my eyes (and that's after reading only one thread). It's not a threat to leave, it's just that I don't want to have headaches every time I log on to pea

I agree the white is too much....It really hurts the eyes...and the turquoise makes it hard to read the pea names....please get rid of the white..my eyes hurt!

Add me to the too-much-white group. Agreed that it works for the store and gallery, but not the text-heavy forums. I got a headache both last night and this morning after reading.

No hair flip here, but it's a reality that I'm not going to be able to spend as much time on a board that makes my physically uncomfortable. And I'm only 39!

But I've never purchased anything from here (I've never purchased ANY sb supplies online from anyone, actually, so its nothing against 2peas) so maybe my opinion is not as important???

PS I miss the poll on the front page. That was always my first stop!

It's not the white but the low contrast that bothers me. I think if there was more contrast it would make reading a little easier.

Anyway. The overall white background isn't likely to change, but if I can infer from some of your notes, does improving the alternating background of posts help? On this thread only, I've updated it from white to a light gray.

I love the new look, however, after reading off and on yesterday, I went to bed with a headache. I don't get headaches. I got up this morning and tried it again. I'm getting eye strain.

This exact same thing happened on another message board and many people had to leave and formed another message board where they created a choice between two skins. I cannot tell you what a difference that made for those of us who don't have the same strong eyes that you do.

I love the white on a shopping site....I'm in and out. But when I want to chat with my friends for a 30 minutes or so, I get eye strain.

I don't know if it is the white or softer font color. Whatever it is, I'm straining to read what I'm typing right now.

Please consider a choice in skin for your pea peeps.
