I like the modern new look, but the white is toooooooooo bright. If the shading on the posts were darker and the fonts black instead of grey, it probably wouldn't be so bad.

I've not been on long this morning and I already have a headache starting.

The white is HORRIBLE. I HATE it. I can't spend more than a fee minutes here before my eyes start to burn.

That means I will also be spending a lot less time shopping here.

I don't think you can compare this site to FB. FB has the dark blue to break up the white. It's not retina burning like this site.

A few other concerns:
Why hide post count and location? I understand you can see it by hovering, but that does not help those of us on the iPad, iPhone, or other devices.

In the store, I hate that you now have to click on a product to get product info as opposed to the info just being listed under the thumbnails. This makes it much more difficult and slow to shop.

It is very hard to differentiate between thread titles on the list and posts within a thread bc there is not enough contrast.

It is difficult to read pea names in the weird neon Tiffany blue.

I liked the pink on the side in the reply window but that's because I'm a huge fan of pink.

Either way, the site is taking a bit to get used to, but I really enjoy it. I do have a request though, and it's one I've been requesting for YEARS so you've heard and seen it before. I would LOVE it when you've read or replied to a post, and there is a "NEW" icon indicating new posts and you can click on that icon and it will take you to the first unread message. 95% of forums have this feature and it's so convenient. Especially because this (well, the NSBR) board moves so fast...

Adding in my .02. I need darker contrasting font and less bright white. I tried adjusting my monitor (even though I think it's ridiculous to have to do it for one site) and while the blinding white was better, I couldn't read the board at all! The font didn't stand out enough. My eyes are burning and I've been on for 15 minutes. I'm going to finish this post and go somewhere else even though I want to be here.

Overall I think the site looks great and as a small business owner myself I respect that it is your site, your choice. But I think you are digging in your heels over the wrong issue. It's not the spoiled little peas complaining because we don't like change--it seems most people love the design concept-the ones complaining have a real, legitimate, physical problem with using your site the way it is now. It's disappointing that you are either refusing to understand that or just don't care.

I don't shop here because I'm Canadian and the shipping would kill me. I do hang out in Fourms though. I don't mind white but there is too much for a message board! One website I love the look of is Gateworld. It's were Stargate fans hang. They have all posts in white however they on two blue colours on the sides of the screen. They also have a strip of blue where the top of a post is where he date, time etc can be found. This I find is way more effective than using the first post white, the second post light grey. The blue strip helps separate the posts in a much better eye pleasing way.

I also find it strange to have a scrapbooking site so deverived of colour.

1. I like it but I think it will take getting used to. I'm working my way through the whole site to see all the new things.

2. I like the idea of 2peas wanting an update/makeover, but I think they are missing out on some of their classic trademark things. I want to see some more pea-green. The "tiffany blue" as the peas have called it, is cute, trendy, but not like a pea!
Logos and slogans? If this is the new and final version, I'm going to miss the peas and buckets. I love the slogan, Live life and scrapbook it! I'll miss that too.

3. Whiteness. I don't think I'm old. I am 29 and the whiteness give me eye-strain too. I think some ladies are feeling like they are old and maybe they are the only ones. Nope, but yes, some contrast on the sides will probably help.

My opinion - bring back some of the old along with the new!

I agree that the background is very white. I don't think sites like jcrew and gap are appropriate comparisons when it comes to a message board because the use is different. That being said, I'll get used to it, and the higher contrast is shading between posts is very helpful.

A "like" button would be awesome!

Maybe it's just my eyes, but for some reason, it's the left side of each page that is really bothering me. I find myself grimacing as I try to read the pages. It's bad.

It might be nice to just glimpse at it and think "Oooh! Clean! Fresh! Pretty!", but when I try to actually read things, it's awful.

GeekPea, I just read through this whole thread, and it seems to me that most people are giving honest, valid feedback. I didn't get the sense that people were being overly critical or mean spirited. I do appreciate that you are listening and considering your users' viewpoints.

I don't think that most people are going to leave because of the website changes. I do think that many people (myself included) are saying they will not be able to spend as much time here as they'd like because reading is now more difficult and, in some cases, causes headaches and eye strain.

Please give this concern serious consideration. I want to be able to read about all sorts of scrappy goodness. I want to be able to read here at length without my eyes hurting. Reading about techniques and products, as well as being a part of the community, leads to me spending dollars here. Which is a good thing, right?

ETA: Oh, oh! While I was reading and typing, an improvement in the contrast was made. Yay! That helps address the readability somewhat.

I agree with many others.
Not enough contrast between posts, and TOO much white.
I do like change, so I'm sure if we must, we'll get used to it.
Not sure if people will be on here for hours like they used to, with a lot of white going on. Oh well, we'll see!!!!

Darn. I've read two threads and can feel a headache coming on. I used to get headaches a lot and have finally gotten to the point where they are tapering off. I really don't want to deal with it again and I can't take a lot of meds because they bother my stomach (even the ones that claim they are gentle on the stomach). Bummer. I agree with others that we need more color somewhere to break up all the white/ultralight gray.

Wahoo! The Peas stats are back in the forum! Thanks for listening!

It's really frustrating to have to hover the mouse cursor over every detail on the page just to get the info. So I'm hoping for a change in the store, as well.

Again, great work! A few improvements and you're home.

Please, don't be hurt because the peas don't love every little detail in the new look. People (including yours truly!) tend to be very conservative when it comes to big re-designs of their favorite water holes on the Internet.

A Swedish message board (non-craft related) worked hard for a year on a big makeover. When the day came (this was last year) almost all of the regulars didn't wait as much as 5 minutes to reach for their hay-forks and torches. It was a big uprising against the new look and features.
The owner had to put the old forum back and then had to tweak on the new one for several months before finally releasing something that the members could accept.

So, I think you're good.

I don't know if it's just me or the make-over, but when I am in my bookmarked projects and I want to click on one specifically, it takes me back to the main gallery page. I am trying to print the layout picture. I even tried right clicking on the picture to "print target". It printed it; but it's super tiny vs the half to 3/4 page it was before.

on the rest!

Huge props to Jeffery et. al. @ 2Ps for a job well done--well actualy a WIP, but that's normal with us creative types--we're rarely done with whatever we're making!

Yeah. I was a bit bummed that I didn't get a 'memo', but I contacted a few fellow Peas & they filled me in on what was happening. Caring & sharing friends & staff are one big reason I remain a Pea & encourage my non-Pea friends to check us out.

I got to see the new format this morning & have to agree that the 'white' was a bit harsh. Now? Looks softer to me! And I'm not straining to see. Good! I'm also pleased with the jump & reply 'buttons'. I'm even playing with hitting the 'arrows' to see how they work--so far so good!

An ongoing difficulty for many online sites is being able to speak the language. I've been crafting for over 50 years & stamping for about 40. I still run into times when I don't understand what a fellow stamper/crafter is saying. So I go in & ask. Same for tech stuff. I'm seeing that in so many of the posts here! WTG!

Just as my ability to create requires me to grow & change, the same is true for the 'communities' I am able to join on these days.

2Ps remains a keeper for me--even if I have the occasional "Sheesh" moments.

Thanks for all the changes that you have been making for us. It is appreciated.

FYI: We are a bunch of women. If you have read the NSBR Board, even once, you had to know that we would give you trouble. You have handled it well. Please forgive us.

PS: Like and Unlike Buttons would be nice, if you ever find yourself looking for something to do.

The alternating grey helps out a whole lot! I like the new design. I think it is pretty and simple. I do find some of the grey titles hard to read on the message boards because all the fonts are in shades of the same color so its hard for your eye to find the area you want to view. But besides that, I like it!

And while the gray is helping me once I get into a thread, I'm unfortunately still getting a headache from being here, something that has never happened to me on any other site.

I like the white and now I like the alternating between the gray and white. It bothered me when I first noticed the changes, but I'm used to it now.

Not trying to be mean to all the complainers and I'm not one for contraversy...but it is their business and website. They can do what they want. Unforrtunately everyone can't be pleased. It's a fact of life. I say we all just roll with the changes and embrace it. I think it looks nice.

I just noticed the daily poll isn't in a dominant spot. If you want to see the poll you have to choose it from the forums drop down menu. I do the poll everyday and get a kick out of the questions - I don't think I'll think to go looking for it each day where it is now. Just a little thing but it was fun

Where is the daily featured project? I know someone said they saw it so I know it's here, I just can't find it.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!

Thank You for listening

just one other little thing. The message boards for the classes only go back 3 months which means, for an older class, some of the instructor's posts are unreachable. Could it be fixed so that "show activity" could include all time?

Again, thank you

Much better! Thanks for adding the grey to the post background. Now at least it's distinguishable from the white borders.

Now, my only other little thing is the color of the posts that I've already read. It hardly seems different from the unread posts, making it difficult to scroll down quickly to find the ones I've read. This contrasting color is especially important in this election season because I don't read any of the political posts (on NSBR). So I need a way to skip by them quickly and find the posts that I have read/commented on.

But really, thanks SO MUCH for changing all that white.

Oh, and thanks for putting our stats and location back under our names.

Ditto on the alternating grey posts. I have made at least 3 positive comments regarding the change. HOwever...as i sit on my iMac with a large monitor, i have to admit, the amount of white truly is too much. Someone earlier in this thread did a screen shot with another site (another country of origin) with a similar color scheme, but the side bar sections had the lovely chevron pattern in the gorgeous "tealified" color which really made a nice look. I am sad to hear how some of the peas have chosen to express their dislike-pretty harsh to me....my mother taught me "you catch more flies with honey", and all that stuff!
Thank you for coming on here and chatting with us and being so quick to make it the best scrappy site there is. I know 2peas is home to many of us, and i only visit one other forum, and that's at kit reveal time. I love that I can come here and be a bit more candid...not hurtful, but candid. That's worth a little inconvenience while the improvements are fine-tuned.

I know I posted this in another thread, but just chiming in my opinion here also.
One of the things about twopeasinabucket.com is that it's always been unique in appearance.

By following the trend in sleek white, it has become just another web site.

Plus, the yearly anniversary peas look very out of place, as do the 'badges', instead of coordinating with the color scheme.

In case any of you are wondering, yes I can read facebook for great lengths of time, perhaps that is easier due to their font choice, and the presence of photos, etc

ETA: there are a lot of great changes that were made to the site here.
Since I don't buy a lot here, I doubt my opinion will count for much.

Thanks for putting the location and post counts back. I also like the little word bubbles for the comments and the fact that you can see the comments without having to go to another page. I also love that we don't have all the ads popping up!

I saw the comment you made back about keeping the bright white and I'm really hoping you'll change your mind and adjust it. The alternating gray helps but it is still way too bright. I know you have always put your fans at the top of your priority list and you've provided us with an awesome site for free for years and we appreciate it and I hate that you feel like you were being attacked. But, it's not just the people that don't shop here or are working for your competition that are saying the white is too much. It may work fine on the shopping section but the message board is where we linger. It's what keeps us coming back. I've been online for 20 minutes and my eyes feel like they're going to explode. I don't think people are threatening to leave if they don't get their way, they're telling you they will have no choice but to not stay because they can't read the board without getting a headache. I know in my case it's more of a begging you to change it so I can stay!!!

I always say what I mean, I just may not mean to say it out loud!

I totally concur with everything that Theresa just said above me. (Well, except the ads didn't/wouldn't bother me.) This is my last plea for tonight. Please fix the readability issue for us.

Logging off of Two Peas now to rest my eyes. I previously could read for hours here without a problem.

I logged in and was so surprised. I loved it! Then I saw all of the threads popping up, all complaining about the bright white and thought everyone was a bunch of whiners, resistant to change (not really that harsh, but you know) and then came to this thread as my third of the evening. By the time I got to page 3 on this thread, I blinked and suddenly I am seeing spots. I would estimate my time on the board to be less than ten minutes at the moment, maybe a slight bit more. As I am typing now, when I blink, I am seeing spots.

So yeah, I admit I was rolling my eyes at the complainers ten minutes ago, and now I am rubbing my eyes instead.

There just isn't enough color or contrast (or something) to deflect from eye strain. I am in my 30's, with no eye issues, a blogger and someone that spends a lot of time on social networks and shopping sites. I LOVE the clean white look but you are simply going to have to make some adjustments, especially for your members that suffer headaches. I know you have your heart set on this, but at the cost of loyal members comfort level? That seems foolish.

My two cents, thanks!

I zoomed in, not very computer savvy so I can't really explain what I mean but I used View in the upper left of my monitor and clicked zoom in, I did it a couple of times and it helped make the posts larger and the white area less. I don't know it that makes sense or if that helps anyone but it has made it a lot easier on my eyes.

Geek pea! - could I make a suggestion that might help the stark white issue? Can you add more of the teal to the side bars? I think that might help considerably.

Having SO much white with a fairly light black font and then the gray toned shading just taxes the eyes too much. I go look at Facebook and they have a greater amount of blue that evens things out.

Perhaps try it on this thread only and see what it looks like?

I've been on here about 20 minutes and my eye are burning already. I never had that problem before. I've tried chaining the brightess on my iPad and that doesn't help.

It doesn't even matter what comes after that part of the sentence... I could see myself getting lost in a debate about a lot of this, but let me just say for the record that we do care. And the suggestion that we are just chasing new users and don't care about our long-term residents of two peas is just ludicrous. The problem, I guess, is that I wouldn't expect my resident peas to be so quick to judge us for trying to spruce up the site a bit and within minutes of something new threaten to leave before we barely have a chance to READ the posts, let alone radically change core components of a new design we've spent months preparing. I've been here for 13 years and I can emphatically assure you that our members are the very first thought in our efforts. I am one of the "Powers" and probably your biggest advocate. Some of the most hurtful comments and threats seem to come from people (accounts) that have never purchased here, outright promote other sites or who I discover after digging are actually employed by our competitors... Which is fine. I have thick enough skin and have taken my share of punches, but if you're a legitimate user of the site, then you know we're a very small company and we do the best we can.

Well, thanks for taking what I said out of context. It actually DOES matter what I said afterward.

FWIW, I have made many purchases, and I've been here since day one.

I appreciate that the design took a long time. I designed websites myself for quite a few years. I know exactly what it takes. I think what bothers me the most is that there are a LOT of people saying the white bothers them...and they're being told they have "no sense of adventure" and basically, too bad so sad.

Obviously, it's your site, do what you want. But reading the multitude of threads, there is obviously concern about the large amount of white space from your customer base.

The alternating grey/white in the posts does help. But the large white space along the sides of the board is really bright...and it is hard to look at for any length of time.

What about making skins for the forum so those of us who don't like it can choose another color scheme? Lots of other forums offer that as an option, and it helps those with issues with lighter/brighter color schemes.

Just a thought.

The only issue I'm having is in the store. On Related Projects for any given product...how do I see more than the 9 projects that are shown? I'm sure there are more, I just don't know how to get to them???

I love the layout. Not so much the white. The white is great for everything except the message boards.

I do understand though that you are a business and the message boards are not where you make your money...however I feel that I shop more when I spend more time on a website. I spend more time here b/c of the message boards and I can no longer do that if the blinding white is giving me headaches.

If there was a way to make the Forum background a softer white or even run some ads or something down the left side of the screen maybe it would offset the bright-bright-bright white.

Just my Opinion.

I love it! Thanks for all the hard work you put into it... I'm still getting used to the lightest shade of grey used on the thread titles (blends in with the grey background of the adjacent threads), but it's only my first time looking... Thanks again

I see that some people are not giving the white a chance, I think it looks clean and crisp.
giveIt some time, change hurts but necessary.
