Are you going to participate in PL 2013?
If so, do you have questions from current PL'ers?
If you are a current PL'er, what info can you give those who want to participate in 2013? |
Cheers from Southeast Sunny Florida!

Yes, I'm absolutely going to do it again in 2013!!
What I'll do differently:
-use my stash instead of buying a new PL kit
-2 weeks per 2 page spread so it fits in one album
-remember that it's supposed to be fun, so no stress or guilt about getting behind |

I'll probably do it again.
--I've been toying with switching from a weekly grouping, to a monthly grouping. Some weeks I have 20+ pics, others only 5 or so.
--stick with home printing for photos; it seems to be easier for me to keep up with it.
--I like the PL kits, but generally don't use the 4x6 title cards. I like the Seafoam kit, but I'm on the fence about ordering it. Printing them from digi would require me to either 1)get a new printer, or 2)use the photo printer to make them look decent, so it would be cheaper for me to order the kit.
--stick with using a different 6x6 paper pad and coordinate journal cards from different places for each spread. I like the looks and it helps with the 6x6 pad addiction I have.
-2 weeks per 2 page spread so it fits in one album
I use this album from Pioneer:
Pioneer 2.5" album
and even with a lot of Thickers, dimensional stickers, buttons, and a couple inserts, the entire year (2 page spread per week) is going to fit. I've found red and brown ones at Joanns and brown ones at Archivers. I got mine at Joanns for $13.99 on sale.

I've never done PL but I'm planning to do it in 2013...but only 1 page per week. I don't want to get overwhelmed because I'm afraid I'll end up quitting if I get behind. I have loved looking at other PL layouts this year.

I am using Simple Stories Sn@p to do a PL for my kids (4, 3, and 17 months). We do one page per week. They pick a favorite picture, colors,I have them answer a question or two, they sometimes pick out an item they want to keep and that is it.
We enjoy it! |

I did PL a couple of years ago. This year I'm doing the digital format. I think for next year I will just do a photo book with photos + words. I need to mix it up to stay interested and frankly, even doing it digi, it's been a bigger time suck this year than I was hoping. |

I did PL this year, since I had a new baby on Dec. 28th. It's been a great way to keep track of his milestones, and how life with 3 kids has gone. We did a spread a week and I'll have 2 full albums when this year ends.
Next year, I'll still do PL, but I'm simplifying the process. I'm doing a spread a month to showcase highlights, and I'll use the Simple Stories sn@p. I still do regular scrapbook pages too, and I really don't want to have to store multiple albums a year.
It's been a good experience, but now one I feel I have to do every year.

I am a current PLer. I realized about halfway through the year that weekly, 12x12, and two page spreads were too much for me. For next year Im downsizing to an 8.5x11 album and using baseball card sheet protectors. For this year I plan to finish up by month and combine all my regular layouts and PL into the same albums.

I'm trying to start PL now. My question is do you do a picture from each day? What if you have several things from the same day you want/should include? I know I can do it anyway I want but I want to do it the 'right' way. I get to hung up on the right/wrong way to do things.

The beautiful thing about Project Life is that there really is no "right" way to do it. You do it the way that works for you.
For example, I do not take a photo a day, sometimes I don't take a photo a week! When I don't have that many photos for a 2 week period, I'll combine those 2 weeks into one page with some blurbs about what happened that week or some ephemera from the week (ticket stubs, receipts, tags from clothing, whatever). There have been a couple of months, actually, that I did a 2 page layout and only had about 5 or 6 photos total.
My only suggestion is try and keep up as much as you can, don't let yourself get months behind! I am currently 3 months behind (oops!) and did not keep track of what I did so it makes it hard to go back and figure out what I did.
I've started keeping a notebook in my bag to write down things I do during the day and also I signed up to receive a daily email from Oh Life and type what I did each day. It's nothing verbose, usually just "went to the bank, went to the grocery store, worked all day on frustrating problems, had a really yummy dinner" or stuff like that.
Remember, don't stress! This is for you and however you want to do it!

Nope not me! I did P52 this year and I did good in the beginning, but I am losing momentum. And too many duplicates that I wanted to scrapbook in a larger form.
So in 2013, I am going back to 12x12 layouts and maybe other sizes mixed in. I will still collect the little things in life like receipts and notes, but I just can't imagine doing it every year, I don't have enough space! Plus I miss scrapbooking in general.
I do plan on buying the Seafoam kit because I love the journaling cards to add to my layouts. I cut them up and just use the top or bottom and sometimes the whole card. Looking forward to seeing all the new products too! |

I've made PL the way I scrapbook 90% of the time. I still make some layouts because I love that process too but PL lets me keep things simple. After nearly 3 years of doing PL I have realized I use a quarter of the kit because I prefer to cut down my own pp. This is hard though because I really love the looks of the new kits.
I follow a "no pressure" approach to PL. I sometimes have tons of pictures and sometimes have 10 for the whole month. They all made it into the album just fine. The one thing that has saved me is a small calendar agenda I jot notes in nearly everyday. Very easy for me to go back and fill out journaling cards. We made a huge move from overseas to the States this summer and I had 4months of catching up to do but with dated pics and my notes It was easy to do. I just plotted out pages and stuck them in a pocket and my album sat that way until I unboxed my stash so I could pretty up the pages. |

I am thinking about doing it for the first time in 2013. I don't like the divided protectors so I am planning on just doing a monthly two pages 12x12 spread of photos I accumulated that month. If I get real ambitious I may shoot for two - 2 pagers a month.
I like the idea of time capsuling a year but I hate the overly simple look of the project life kit. I want use my scrapbooking supplies and skills to do this project. Now that I am into my KL templates I can make a layout a day with no effort, before it would take me a week or more to do one page. |

I'm planning on doing it for the first time next year. Already have my page protectors ordered and I've bought several stamp sets that geared towards it.
I'm going to use my stash but have thought about getting the digital versions for quick journaling cards, I like to type my journaling anyways so that seems like a better solution. And I can buy multiple "kits" without feeling guilty. |

I am going to continue. I use one side for a 12x12 as one week. This has made it much more manageable. It also keeps one year in one book. Basically that means 3-4 pictures in one week and this is very doable. My children love to look back and so do I, so we will continue.

A few weeks ago I made a list of my top 10 tips on P/L have a look at what I've learnt from doing P/L for the last 3 years.
I am definitely doing it again next year. I have found it an awesome way to keep a detailed photo album for my family. I am also completely one for each of the kids. They don't have a photo a day. They have 10 photos a month sometimes more. I write a lot of stories, life experiences, routine type stuff. They love it. |

I've never done PL and don't really want to. But I have a milestone birthday next year and am going to do that style as a "year in the life" album. I've only ever done standard 12x12, but for this album I'm using a 3 ring binder with full and divided pages. I will be really out of my comfort zone but I'm looking forward to doing it. |

I'm thinking of taking the plunge, because I'm so bad at scrapping current things. It would probably just be a 2-up album with 2 or 3 photos per week, though. Gotta keep it doable. |

I'm jumping on the PL bandwagon too. I'm really looking forward to it. I've already bought a few project life kits and some of the new sn@p products to get me started.
I'm also planning to order the new baby kits. I have to get my oldest daughter's baby pictures caught up. It's driving me crazy.

I love PL and I am absolutely in for next year, although I am toying with switching to a bi-monthly vs weekly format. But for all I know I might do both. I am also going to push to get my family more involved. Pictures and journaling from my kids and husband. I want them to look back and see and read things they have written, I don't want everything to be from my point of view.
I'm not interested in any of the new kits, I have found my PL happy place using digital kits to embellish my pictures, weekly title cards, etc, and also for a lot of my journaling. I also love inserts, especially 6 x 12 and the instagram size ones. LURVE them.
I would say to everyone starting, do what feels good to you. I tried so much at the beginning to recreate pages that I saw on the net with a dozen little embellishments, washi tape, etc. Turns out they really weren't me, and I got frustrated and annoyed with it. Some of them are pretty to look at but I like keeping this simple. I can save the major embellishments for my regular scrapbook pages.
One more thing, if you get behind, combine a few weeks and keep moving. I don't get caught up in any particular *rules* anymore. In fact, I'll probably be combing the last two weeks as I totally slacked on taking pictures. No big deal. My family loves and treasures this album like none other. That has made all of the work I've done this past year worth it. |

I want to do this, I just do not want to get anal about it. My kids are grown, it is just me and my hubby most days and our friends. We see the kids occasionally, but they are spread all over the place...not close to home.
So I thought about doing is doing this, but do not get upset if I only do PL 1 or 2 weeks out of the month. It will still preserve memories and I get to be creative. And that is what it is all about....Right? |

I started Project Life on week 29. I thought I would start it at the beginning of 2012, but all I did is a cover page. I let life get in the way and figured it was too big of an endeavor for me to take on. Then I had an experience that really changed my life (brain surgery - haha) and that made me realize how short life is. So during my recovery, I decided to start it.
I have learned several things - but mostly that each person has to make this "concept" of scrapping the every day activities work for them. There shouldn't be ANY rules. If you don't do every week - just skip some. If you only do one page for a specific week, that is fine! If you want to include receipts and memorabilia, do it. Just document your life one way or another - NO RULES! Rules just make you feel pressured and this should be fun, not a responsibility.
I approach my two page spreads much as I do a two page layout. I always include a title for the spread. I also include a calendar of our main daily events for the week. I hand draw journaling right on my pictures. I use a somewhat hand/made messy approach so it takes less time. I mix and match different page protectors depending on the number of photos I have for that week. I sketch it out before I start to keep it easy to put together.
I also have found that using a set number of products works best so I am not overwhelmed. I picked a color scheme so there would be a sense of flow to the album. I use all corals, teals and yellows. So I went through my stash and pulled out items in those colors not caring how OLD they were. I also cut several papers into the right sizes for my inserts in those colors. If you do all the prep work, it is much easier to keep up. I will post pictures of the way I store my stuff on my blog - it is all in one 12x12 bin. I have posted them already on Instagram (user name suzyplant) if you want to look.
I also want to keep my book as flat as possible and not have multiple books per year, so I don't use additional inserts and I don't include memorabilia or any thick embellishments - almost everything I use is flat. Again, I use PL more like a two page layout focusing on journaling and photos as I personally don't care to see all the other stuff years from now.
Just do what works for YOU, select a small set of products (such as a monthly kit or some of your current stash) in the colors you want to focus on, store it all in one 12x12 box, and keep the pages flat so it doesn't get out of hand. If you miss a week, start the next week - no reason to go back. Just start it and do whatever you get done. Project Life truly got me back to what scrapping is all about - capturing my families memories.
Sorry for the book - visit my blog if you want to see some of my pages. I'm a fan, so I can't help but rave about it. The fact that I have every detail of my wonderful summer captured means the world to me!

ITA.
But, for some scrappers, scrapping is a creative outlet. Time wise, I think one should figure out if they want to scrap as a creative outlet or if you want to capture memories. If one has alot of time, both can be accomplished.

I did PL this year but am still SOOOOOO far behind, it's a hot mess!
I am considering doing a monthly version this year and hope to be able to keep up with that. My problem is always printing the pictures, so I might consider getting a new photo printer to alleviate the trip to the store.
A Facebook group was started awhile back, called Project Life Peas, by Stephanie. There were some live chats and stuff on it awhile back. I have been out of the loop a little lately with scrapping so don't know how active it is. I am sure you could search it and join.

This will be my first year. However I think I will be doing it in a snap album & doing it monthly. Not going to worry about how many spreads per month. Will do as many or as little as each month calls for.
So wish I started this years ago when my kids we're little. |

I can't keep up w/PL '13. I love seeing how the albums come along as the year progresses, but I can't keep up with that format.
I might adopt a 12 on 12 method though, as I enjoy that too

I'm about to start project life. Do you guys use one consecutive kit or mix and match the kits throughout the album?
I mixed my kits. Now, I make my own cards and add my own journaling. I like the look alot more than with the PL kits. |
Cheers from Southeast Sunny Florida!

I started with just Clementine and plain grid cards at the beginning of the year, added Amber this summer, and picked up Turquoise this fall. I like mixing and matching. It's not uncommon for me to have a 3x4 card from each kit, plus an AE card and a Simple Stories card Allen the same layout. Just depends on what matches the 6x6 pad I'm using that week.
