Or am I just nutso?

I do both. But generally just 1 two page spread in my 12x12 album when I do a DD as well.

I think this year, I will have a December album. That's because I'm running out of room in my 2012 scrapbook, but think MAYBE I will have room for the rest of this month. That means I have a lot of freedom to do things with December, as it will be its own album. It will be traditional layouts, because I know some of the pages will have a lot of photos.
Last year although they were in my "second half of 2011" book, it seemed like I took pictures almost every day of something in December. This year, with a trip to Colorado planned over the Christmas holiday, and a trip to the coast planned over New Year's, I think it will be true again, except for possibly at the start of the month. Too much for the main book though.

I'm doing mine on 12x12 (4 6x6 to a page, one for each day). I figure if something really big happens, I can easily slip an extra layout of pictures without feeling like I'm doing double the work. I also have a full page for the 25th.
Part of it is I did a bunch of Christmas photos recently (different years) and realized that most years look alike. I'm kinda sick of seeing the same layouts for December over and over. So, that's why I'm doing December Daily. Something different, and I won't feel the need to scrap as many of the same old, same old.
Yes, I can spell. No, my Kindle can't.
Just my humble opinion. And no, I wasn't being mean.

I don't do a Christmas book, but I understand the question. When we have a major holiday (which gets a book of its own) I do also scrap some 'summary of the holiday' pages which go in my ordinary album for the year.
So no, you're not nuts. Christmas is part of the year and deserves a place in that book as well as December having a special book.

My December albums only have a few photos for each day. I often do a full layout or two of other December happenings. Even if I mentioned it in the DD album.

I have a separate book for ALL the many many photos I want to scrap, but then my chronological 12x12 book that gets one, maybe two two-page layouts for the event. Like a review page, very heavy on little prints with minimal journalling.

My DD is going to be more of a top 25 things I like about the holidays so I will do some additional layouts in my PL albums. Not sure if they will be 12x12 but will certainly have more "inserts" in my PL album for the month of the December.
