Some food for thought! How can America continue to be blessed by God when our principles are totally down the drain as a nation? I think it is pretty much over! However, we do serve a gracious God! Please Lord have mercy on America!

I'm sure that you are being sincere, but you are basically telling those of us that voted for Obama that we have no principles.

Not to be mean, but see, this is one of the reasons why you lost the WH. People read this stuff and think to themselves, "Wow, I sure don't want to be lumped in with THAT."

Please do yourself a favor and reread your post(s) before hitting submit the next time you feel the need to bare your soul.

Being from the UK (a much more secular society) I really think that government shouldn't be so aligned to religion. The government is there to run the country economically and in legal terms. Religion is for an individual to consider and live their life in accordance and within in a society that is accepting of whatever faith they follow.

ETA this only being blessed by God if you follow a certain religion/political sway doesn't seem at all Christian to me!

Add the people I have talked to in the UK about the election to that mix too pjaye!

I am not religious (not atheist or whatever else, my family background going back as many generations as I have met have never been, like I say UK is very secular) and I politically usually vote Conservative. However, even our Conservative party/policies would seem incredibly liberal to those in the US, even those who are Democrats. The whole stance the Republicans based their campaign on seems so far out of our own reality in the main it is difficult to comprehend.

Not sure why, but this is a really hard concept for some Americans to grasp. It is pretty frustrating, and contributes to a great deal of the divisiveness we've been experiencing - and will continue to experience. Sad.

I totally agree with the poster from the UK. There should be no religion in running the country.

How you want to worship is your deal, not your country's. If you really feel that the president makes the country what it is, you are wrong. You need to go to church and pray and figure out a way to be a better American.

FTR, I voted for Obama, but if Romney won, I would deal and respect what the man had to say and do, since he's the one who worked hard all these years and the voters felt confident in him as a president. I wouldn't run away or pout that the country is going down the drain. Instead of pouting, why don't you go do something to make a difference.

Dear pjaye: that is the funniest thing I've seen here in a very long time. I laughed so loudly and hard. Showing your post to my Dh now.

And it's true about the other-country Peas; my "foreign" friends are also posting about how relieved they are that Obama won again.

And sorry to say, but there are so many scary people like the OP out there; they will never stop combining religion with politics. It's embarrassing, really.

And the extreme scary religious right has been warned here time and time again: punctuation and grammar are tantamount to being taken seriously around here. Less exclamation points!!!!!!!!!! "Rain" and not "reign!" lol

I really find OP very sad. It feels to me that she is uneducated about what blessed is. Both of the candidates for president had personal moral values. They believe in God and go to church. They are both very vocal about that.

What principles is OP talking about? Free speech? The Constitution? All intact, as far as i can see.

OP should be more concerned about her congressmen and Senators if she's worried about other things. They are the ones who vote or don't vote for laws.

Are the only issues that have a moral/religious implications abortion, freedom to not have to pay for birth control on your insurance and stem cell research? What about war? What about capital punishment? What about the fact that many of the poor in our nation do not have the ability to pull themselves out of it and live life like the rest of us get to? I could go on and on with moral issues that are important to me and inform my voting.

I see so many issues around politics as moral issues, and my moral compass led me to vote the way I did and I'm not regretting things at all on November 7.

OK, History is not my strong suit, but didn't the pilgrims leave England for America to escape religious pressures?

Our nation was founded on freedom - one of those freedoms is religious freedom. When the Republican Party remembers that, they will have a much larger following.

Yes, they did. And DH was a little shocked last night at the polls when a volunteer asked him to take a Repub ballot and when he did, the lady said "we just want the rights of religion protected."

I really think that government shouldn't be so aligned to religion.

that might be the UK. This country was founded on Biblical principles.

you're right OP. Harbinger?

"A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education."
- President Theodore Roosevelt

On June 28, 1787, as Governor of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Franklin hosted the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, where he moved:

"That henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning."

Franklin wrote April 17, 1787:

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."

Benjamin Franklin wrote his epitaph:

"THE BODY of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN - Printer. Like the cover of an old book, Its contents torn out, And stripped of its lettering and gilding, Lies here, food for worms; Yet the work itself shall not be lost, For it will (as he believed) appear once more, In a new, And more beautiful edition, Corrected and amended By The AUTHOR."

I'm not sure how anyone can look around this country and think that we aren't blessed. We haven't had a war on our soil in over 100 years. We have legally protected racial and gender equality. We have education available for all of our children. We have some of the best medical, scientific, linguistic, economic, religious, and political minds in the world right here at our disposal. We don't have rampant diseases like cholera, TB, and malaria sickening or killing large segments of our population. Shoot, our leading causes of death are illnesses that are contributed to by an abundance of blessing! Even our most poor people have access to resources that many in the world will never be able to touch. Heck, the fact that electricity, indoor plumbing, and refrigeration is available in almost every home in our country makes us better off than many in the world.

So, how are we not blessed?
