The thread about the typo in some recent Basic Grey paper got me thinking about this issue, so I wrote a blog post about it. In just 30 minutes of research, I found lots!
Please come on by and tell me your thoughts on the issue. Also do you know of any typos I missed? |

I have the Lucille paper, and I sew so I spotted the "bias" "bais" when I got the paper.
I think scrapbook companies should proof better!
If some one posts a LO to the gallery and I see an error, no biggie. I know I posted a page where I had spelled the title word wrong (added an extra letter)
But magazines who publish LO's should proof better and if I am paying for paper I expect more! |

This was from the sheet of die cuts, there was a little calendar die cut that said decemberer. The funny thing was I didn't even notice and only found out from a post here on 2peas! |

I still have--somewhere--a roll of the HS tape with Thrusday on it. I made a layout about 2Peas with it for a friend. It was a fun typo.  |

These are making me laugh...but I have to defend the companies. As a journalist, working for both newspapers and magazines, I understand how typos happen. Sometimes you're dealing with so much copy, the mistakes just go unnoticed. I'm sure they're proofread, probably by several people.
However, I think they should try to make it right. That BG paper is pretty bad. | |

Hi Berta ~ I'm sorry you got the paper with errors Have you contacted BG to see if they'll compensate you somehow? I'm wondering if these companies (and by the way, I LOVE Basic Grey and they have a lot of my $$, lol) had to spend the time fixing their errors, they might be more careful and not make them in the first place? |

It's versus its drives me absolutely batty, so this paper sets my teeth on edge.
(If 'it's' has an apostrophe, it is ALWAYS 'it is'. The possessive of its is just like his and hers, which is not hi's and her's. It's such a common error that I know I should just get over it, but instead, it glares more and more at me! I also have nightmares about making the mistake myself just because it bothers me so much, and especially with autocorrect it is easy to make.)
As for why we see so many typos in product designs, I think a great deal of it has to do with how we would use a spell checker or have that magic red line pop up when we type in a word processor, but when typing in a design programme, that doesn't happen. I know Karen Russell had typos in her first collection ever (she did the Narratives line, if you remember those) and she was mortified because she assumed someone would be looking for mistakes like that in the process and it turned out that step didn't really exist. Interesting perspective! I'm guessing the same goes for whatever sign making company in my neck of the woods insists on writing 'proffessional' on the side of company vehicles. *facepalm* |

I wish I could remember the manufacturer, but there was a pet themed paper that said "Pet's Rule!" on it. I took a photo of it with my phone and sent it to my sister at the time, because photographing published spelling and grammar mistakes is one of our little sisterly hobbies. I checked my phone, but I had deleted it.
Has anyone else seen this paper? My sighting occurred around April of this year.

I got a darling set of alphabet animal cards that I was going to use in our classroom at preschool but the Narwhal was spelled Narwahl. I did contact the company and they sent me a new corrected card months later. |

I have to say that this is one error I catch myself doing sometimes. It's clear in my head (see?) what the difference is but sometimes my fingers don't follow, lol. Another one I find myself typing is using their/there wrong. Duh. |

This wasn't on a sheet of paper, but at CKC Seattle two years ago, one of the booths was selling a ton of ink pad in different colors. The light green one was labeled "Cumquat." My friend and I couldn't stop laughing. | |

I love the paper with 14s and February all over it but I just don't think I could purchase it knowing that two of the Februarys are spelled wrong - and in two different ways! |

I used to work for a printing company, and now my eye is just automatically drawn to a typo, wherever it might be - I'm the proofreader for our company announcements. We took over our own after the "professional" company we had doing it made so many grammatical and spelling errors There is no excuse for a company not to catch their errors, especially when they are selling something. Oh well, I guess if you really love the paper you just put a photo or embellishment over the error!! | |

I had a stack from WRMK a few years ago that had the word CRISTMAS on it in huge bold letters. It was a border that ran across the entire page!! A bit hard to miss, you would think.
That CP Fourteen one is sad. Hopefully they caught that before it went to the printer. Probably not though.
I work at a marketing company and we have 3 people proof everything before it goes out the door. We still miss small things on occasion, but we don't make huge mistakes like these ones.

I found 3 in the Note to Self collection, including the one Shimelle mentioned. (The English teacher in me just cringes as that one!) I let EP know, and they still couldn't find one of them - even after I pointed it out. They spelled "circle" incorrectly. I can't remember the third mistake off-hand. They did send me a free set of my choice, though. They also said that I was the first one to point out those errors to them. |

This is a little less egregious than the others on the Theresa Collins paper, but I think the Anne Dillard quote in the bottom right (your right, the paper's left) also has a mistake. It says "how we spend our days is, of course how we spend our lives." I think there should be another comma in there: "how we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives."
I guess I'd better avoid buying papers with lots of text from now. Too many opportunities for errors and I know it would bug me forever if one of them made it into my scrapbooks! | |

This coming back to page one has reminded me of a mistake that made me laugh so much. When I was working with one particular magazine, there would be a 'free gift' on the cover and we would have to do assignments to show how to use the free gift. Sometimes the free gift wasn't available when our assignments were due, so we would send in the projects with post-it notes where the freebie was meant to be added and someone in the office would add them just before photography.
One time there was a set of rub-ons that were a bit sixties inspired in colour and design - lots of hot pink and orange, daisies and rounded flowers, that sort of thing. And one little caption in an arrow that said 'Hippy Chick'. ... when they meant 'Hippie Chick'. Because 'hippie' is the spelling for the peace-loving subculture. 'Hippy' is an adjective to describe someone with wide hips.
Somewhere in that issue there is an example layout with that 'hippy chick' arrow pointing to the six year old daughter of one of the designers. Her hips were about as wide as the palm of my hand! I just remember opening the issue and shaking my head with a big 'oh no, no, no, no, no...'. |

OMG. I have never seen that. I didn't know that's where Thrusday on NSBR came from
The Thrusday spelling came from a former pea (Lady Stars) who used to spell it that way all the time. When someone commented about it she said she had spelled it that way on purpose. |
