I am moving my studio from one home to another.

I had about 600 sq. ft. in our other home and have just under 200 in this home. I spend 90% of my time at this home, makes no sense to keep a studio at the other house.

I am really struggling with how to make it work. I also had a 340 sq. ft. office and now am putting my office in my studio as well. Right now I just need space for two laptops, desk top organizer and MFD beyond my scrapping needs. So minimal. I also have the added impact of two doors and one nearly top to bottom window in this room, so I lose some wall space. Standard 8 ft. ceilings. I have 12 outlets in the room, so I don't have to worry about where plugs are. Plugs aplenty, lol!

HELP!

Was this a basement or a room? 600 sq feet is over half my house!
I don't have a room, I have a corner of my bedroom. My Corner.

When you can't go out, go up. Trying looking at wall storage systems, perhaps at the Container Store to give you some ideas of how you might structure the room.

I will post pictures of my area once I am done putting everything away. We recently moved and my scrap area is cut in half. Both bedrooms are smaller than our old ones so our dresser had to go at one end of the room and the cabinet that DH keeps his computer stuff in is also on one wall. That has really cut down on how much space I have.

Was this a basement or a room? 600 sq feet is over half my house!

A room. We don't have a basement at either home. We have a 4200+ sq ft home and also have a 1800ish sq ft home and that is where I am moving my studio to. But your corner is AMAZINGLY organized! It gives me great hope!!

Trying looking at wall storage systems, perhaps at the Container Store to give you some ideas of how you might structure the room.

That is likely what I will have to do. I found an AWESOME wall unit at Henredon last week that was just a few inches narrower than my 'long' wall, but it was 11 feet tall. Not a huge fan of 8 ft ceilings. But I cannot change that, lol.

My personal issue, was that I have lots of vintage pieces I have collected from a pyrex collection, furniture pieces, lots of vintage storage baskets and all the things I use to display my supplies in
Sounds like you make your room 'prettier' than I do. Right now I have almost nothing out and visible, it is all stored in custom cabinets that pretty much line my studio. I have none of that at the other house so the good news is, I have a blank slate. Maybe I'd like the smaller space better if I had some display items. Do you have a dust issue when things are out?

I will post pictures of my area once I am done putting everything away. We recently moved and my scrap area is cut in half.
Would love to see them and hear what things you consolidated and what solutions you put in place.
Thanks ladies--I love this place!!

Our entire home is 488 sq ft, here is my crafting space (still reworking it though to better suit my needs for crafting) so it has changed yet again from this photo:

And this is the "wall" to our bedroom since my son also lives with us (the baskets and green boxes are filled with my clothes, and I am reworking this space as well):

I am thinking I may need to pop over to IKEA and get a big Expedit this weekend. We have one 30 minutes from each house (same IKEA), so that works out well!

AerynKelly, yours is very well thought out, too!!

Wow Aeryn-Kelly - very impressed by your space and what you have done. Being an organizational freak, I am constantly reorganizing. I too have to think in advance of what I need when out shopping as we have one vehicle and no M's or J's to shop at which I miss being able to just hop in one of three cars and go. It has been an adjustment for me and I am still working on those issues.

Here is one more photo that gives more of a perspective of our living space - where the desk/craft space (on the far right) is in relation to the Expedit "wall". I do use the kitchen peninsula to spread out as well:

sbartist1, your home is beautiful! I am in the midst of cleaning out my room as all 4 walls have become full so I love seeing what others have done to maximize space. I have so much stuff in this room right now that I feel claustrophobic!

Shih Tzu Mommy,
I have 2 desks in my space. One tall one for crafting and a standard height desk for my computer/printer/Cameo. Both desks have roll out tables underneath that house my scanner and paper cutter. They are built out of cubes that my husband put together so that have lots of storage.

I also have 2 expidit units on one wall and closed cupboards on the other. I love the look of the expidits but I have stuffed them so full that they are no longer attractive (lol). The closed pantry storage is nice because everything is hidden. I purchased mine at Home Depot and added extra shelves for stamp storage. They are pretty standard looking but it would be easy to dress them up with crown molding.

I also have a window that takes up one wall and 8 foot ceilings. My room is about 12x12.

Bonnie - your home is beautiful, but I can only hope that it's a flat, not an actual house, being that small. Ours is a house and with two dogs and a cat plus us we're bursting! We too share a car and the "local" M's or J's is 60 miles of mountain roads away. Can't just pop down for anything either, so I feel your pain. Especially after having a much larger house where we could literally SEE M's from our front door (it was across a freeway, but I could see it - and Best Buy, and a book store!).

The key is really being ruthless. What do you use ALL.THE.TIME? Anything you create, any time you sit down, what do you reach for? That's your top drawer, basket, box, whatever. For me, it's my Copics, so they're front and centre. Secondary, think of this as your second hand, what do you use quite often, but maybe not every time? That takes up the second largest amount of space in *its* own basket, drawer, what have you. For me it's my stamps so they get an entire wall in my space.

That's how you keep going. Whatever you think of most prominently while creating is what you need most easily accessible. I like to heat emboss, but I'm gonna do it maybe once a month. All of those supplies are therefore in a drawer *under* my desk. I gotta crawl to get them. It doesn't deter me from using them, but they also don't take up valuable space needed for things like stamping ink and Spellbinders that get used all the time.

HTH!

Aeryn-Kelly ~ we live in a condo on the 11th floor. We do have a 137 sq foot lanai as well, but it is not enclosed and we have no plans to enclose it. There are numerous Ross stores on Oahu and one way too close to work, but I stopped in there before work this morning to buy two more storage items to swap out on the Expedit "wall". I bought one of the same things the other day and it fit perfectly so I may be on the hunt for more of them, since I wiped out the one store.

As far as dust goes, we have Vog here which because we do not have AC in our condo, we keep windows open on both sides that run mauka/ mountain to makai/sea, so we get a fine layer of volcanic ash from the Big island all over everything because of that. I really don't have room for knick-knacks and the exterior walls of our unit (we have neighbors on either side of us) are concrete so hanging anything on them is a bit of a challenge.

I will post pics of mine when I'm all done. We just moved... fr ND to FL... and there, I had a whole room for my studio.. now?? well we moved into a tiny beach cottage by the sea.. and well. now I'm sharing my studio with our living room... what i did?
I went horizontal storage for me along one wall.
we bought
4 IKEA ALEX drawer units in white.. 4 x 6 drawers in each.. total 24 drawers.
and
3 VIKA ALEX drawer units to use as desk legs for my desk surface table.. each of those has 5 drawers x 3 .. 15 drawers..
so total is 39 drawers!

Plus I had a walmart white grid cubicle thing with 9 cubes... and 9 woven baskets for each.. that is sitting on top of two of the alex drawers.. I've managed to store everything i need..

Danielle, do you have out things like glitter because it is pretty to see, or because it is more helpful to your creative process to see them? I have had so much storage in my big studio that nothing was ever out that I was not actively working on except my big Making Memories turn around (5 feet tall, used to be a store display, AWESOME!) and I would 'shop' from it when I needed a refill or punch. That is where I kept them. Not sure it will be worth it in the new space though.

Argh. This is harder than I thought it would be.

My advice is definitely to go up. My scrap room was on the ground floor which got flooded, so we had to move the stuff temporarily to the living room and surprisingly everything fits! But I have much less stuff than most peas, like only one cropper hopper full of pp. Please excuse the messy bin under the table, I haven't had a chance to organize it yet.

Danielle, love how you've made the best use of space in a living area. I am fortunate to have my own room, but it's only 10x10 with a small closet. I maximize the space and purge regularly which helps. I think if i had more room, i'd just have more stuff!!

However, my hubby would never "allow" me to have my stuff in the living room as you do. He gets crabby when the house gets too messy/cluttered for his taste. It's pretty ironic as i look at his clothes on the bedroom floor!!

I actually do have a cobweb in a corner of the LR by the front door that I haven't removed yet. I keep thinking about it but apparently I forget every time I have the vacuum cleaner over there.

Not sure how to "quote" posts:

@LovMelrose: the color of the wall is Benjamin Moore Water's Edge - so it is a blusish color. The vinyl wall art on the TV wall is from Amazon and I had it made in a chocolate (brown) color.

@msfuhlhage: The 'wall' to our bedroom is a 1x5 and a 5x5 Expedit together, otherwise my DH and I would have zero privacy.

Still reworking my space, sometimes I wish I was not so anal. Looking back at my prior dedicated craft space which was in a spare bedroom/office although I thought it was well organized (which it was) it seems messy to me now when I was looking at photos this morning. I am more anal now because our space is small and I am trying to color coordinate everything so it goes together.
