I do not have the greatest handwriting and was wondering if any of you type with a manual typewriter ? If so, I know they still make them and I am asking what brand would be best and maybe where to look.

I am not looking for vintage , just a good one , easy to get ribbon and load.

Thank you...Gail

I was recently given a vintage one by a work colleague. All it needed was a new ribbon. It works like a charm. I am going to try and find some more ribbon to have/hoard for a rainy day. I LOVE my Olivetti.

I meant to add that eBay has lots of listings for the ribbon. Even try a local office supplies store - that is where I got my ribbon from.

I've also been looking for a manual typewriter that my wife can use for her Scrapbooking/PL projects. Craigslist and eBay are the 2 sources I've been trolling.

I have a vintage Brother one. I picked it up at a flea market for $25 and then took it to my local typewriter shop (not that local) and they fixed the keys not working and cleaned it up and it works wonderfully. I spent a total of $100, but I couldn't be happier.
I get universal ribbon on Amazon for $8 a roll.

I would check thrift stores and eBay. You can get one for a lot cheaper than the Vermont store one!

I have a vintage one I am going to take pictures of and try to sell here, it is in perfect condition and a pretty blue color. Even has the original receipt from 1974! It will be a lot cheaper than the one linked too.

I have 2 other ones I use all the time, they are really fun. There are several sites that sell universal ribbon.

Not sure where you are in ohio but the Goodwill in West Chester off 747 carries them, the Goodwill in Fairfield off Dixie road has them and the thrift store right down the road from the Goodwill in Fairfield has them also. I got mine in Goodwill on 747 for $6 on 50% off everything day. It's a Smith Corona Electra 120. I love it. I was able to test it out while I was there so I made sure it turned on and everything.

My DH bought mine from a local store that fixes typewriters. Works great and they sell the ribbons, so maybe look for a repair shop in your area. It is a Smith Corona.
