We all really like it. I have used Paula Deen's recipe which is a little different and is really good (and not any more terrible for you than the other recipes). I always use fresh green beans which does give it a little bit of crunch so you don't have that terribly mushy texture. |

I used to hate it. Now I like it though I wouldn't be devastated if it wasn't on the Thanksgiving table either.
In my family's opinion, it's highly dependent on who made it. We are picky about ours. It must include cut green beans but NOT the french cut and if using canned they must be drained VERY VERY well. You can't add too much milk to the soup or it's too runny and yuck. You also have to add plenty of pepper, chicken seasoning or Lawry's and a glub of worcestershire sauce. No fried onions mixed in as they get soggy, only on top and they must be cooked until they are golden brown and crispy. Not too much of course. Most people add no seasoning and make it way too soupy or watery because they didn't drain the green beans. I drain mine in a collander and shake a bit until there is pretty much no liquid.
Personally I think it would be even better made with a real white sauce etc but the family, esp dh is resistant. |

I never grew up with it, I can literally count on one hand the number of times I've eaten it.
I don't like green beans, I prefer my onions sauteed, and IIRC doesn't it have cream of mushroom soup in it? I hate mushrooms. It's pretty gross. |

I agree with this! If it's going to be good, you have to do it right. I blanch my fresh green beans in chicken broth and drain them really well. I don't use all of the soup, either. |

Ugh, gross. I think that is one of the most vile dishes out there. I cannot understand why it is one of the most beloved thanksgiving dishes. Fortunately my husband and I are in agreement about this so we don't ever have to see it again. Unless we are having thanksgiving or Christmas with my family, in which case we will have to see it but won't have to eat it. |

I don't like it at all. I'm in charge of Thanksgiving dinner, so we don't have it. So there.
I like my green beans really plain. Maybe a little olive oil and salt on them at most. And I don't like them canned or frozen -- its a texture thing.
Plus I can't stand the smell of cream of mushroom soup. My mom used to love that stuff and made it all the time when I was a kid, but it always made me gag. She ate it as soup, in eggs, with green beans, and any other way she could think of. Yuck.

Bleck. Have never liked that.
My favorite way to sza sza up green beans is to heat a little olive oil in the pan. Use 2 cans or bag of green beans. Stir in about 3 spoons of suger and minced garlic clove to taste. Cook until they have some dark marks on them from the sugar carmalizing. So yummy! |

I'm not to fond of the traditional stuff but my bf loves it.
A year or so ago they picked over 100lbs of Chanterelles at his mom's place and they gifted us with a huge bucket of fresh mushrooms. I made an organic, mostly from scratch recipe and it was pretty alright.
Hopefully this is another good mushroom year. |

Never ate it growing up but I have learned to like it if it's made just right. Like Laurie said right kind of green beans, easy on the soup, add some flavor and only crispy onions. I make it more like green beans with a light sauce and crispy onions on top than a casserole. |

You hate what it stands for???? What the heck does it stand for anyway????
I love it, but I'm particular about it as well. So I generally only like my gb cass. And I use cream of chicken, cause I loathe mushrooms. If my grandma in law has real beans she canned from her garden, I'd prefer to just eat them plain. She usually serves creamed peas that she makes from scratch...(the sauce, that is...) I used to think they looked icky, but then I tried them. Nothing says thanksgiving more than drowning all your foods in sauce!!!
