I have already put lots of vinegar and water, (50/50) solution on it to break down the proteins and dissolve most of the stain, but I still have not been able to get the rest of it out.

The stains came from a "bad" dog who got into the trash and ate, (yes consumed), a bunch of used tampons. I did rush him to the vet and after inducing vomiting, he's resting comfortably in his cushy bed, being catered to... (Yes, he's lucky he's the light of my life right now, and I would do anything for him. And, it's my fault he was able to get to them anyway. Although he's never shown any interest in the icky stuff before.)

I hesitate to use soap because it tends to dry rot your carpet if you don't get it all out. I'm not sure what kind of soap to use anyway.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to get on this before they fully set.

Oh yeah, and they are pretty much in the middle of my family room, and the house is up for sale right now. At least I don't have any showings scheduled.

Pour peroxide and let it bubble up and then blot. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Really? Won't peroxide bleach out the area?

Hydrogen peroxide gets out blood stains, even ones that have set. Maybe check for color fastness in an out of the way area first.

I second, third and fourth the hydrogen peroxide! It works fabulous on blood stains. You honestly don't need to do anything else other than pour on the peroxide and let it bubble up.

The enzymes in your saliva will remove any blood stains. But I'm not sure that I would have enough spit for the job!

Oxy clean is great at getting out biological stains.

I would probably go and rent a big carpet cleaner from Lowes or Home Depot. That's probably the quickest and easiest solution. Or call a professional carpet cleaner.

Hunter's clothes detergent will get it out. It's made to get animal blood out of their clothing.

Ok, I had hydrogen peroxide here, so I doused the spots as best I could, and blotted, and doused and blotted. It looks much better.

I think I'm gonna have to let it dry to see if any more stains are visable.

Thank you so much for the advice. I knew I needed to do something quickly, and I didn't think I could get a carpet cleaner out here quickly enough.

I would never have put peroxide on it, so thanks again!

If it helps, you're not alone. BTDT when my daughter left my bedroom door open and my beagle got into the bathroom trash. So gross. Peroxide worked on my carpet.

Thanks Pridemom, it does help. He is such a pig. And he is a Corgi/Beagle mix, so, Beagle here too. Seriously, he will eat just about anything.

I'm really grateful he didn't have to have surgery, but that was $200 I could really use right now. Oh well. He gives such a huge amount of love to me, I can't really complain about him.
