Do you change the color based on the layout, or always use brown or black? I'm hesitant to use black, it seems so harsh.

Depends on the paper, but Pumice Stone is my current go to. Vintage Photo for an "aged" look.

I like Pumice for many layouts and occasionally if I have lots of blue-ish papers I'll choose Weathered Wood.

If the layout is really brightly colored, but I still want to finish the paper edges, I either choose a distress color to match (green/blue/pinks etcs) or just use Antique Linen - which seems to almost do a watermark kind of effect. Works for me, anyway.

I can hardly remember the last time I used black to distress a layout - it would have to be a layout with lots of black in it to feel like it fit.

Some type of brown. I use CTMH, Tim Holtz distress inks, A Muse studio. Depends on what is handy and what suits my fancy .

Chestnut Roan is by far my favorite chalk ink. If I have a predominant color I really want to bring out, I will use something similar from my chalk ink cats eye pads. I think I have about every color! I do use the Vintage Ink quite often too. My absolute favorite is Prussian Blue from Cats Eye.

just really depends on the layout. i have ink pads of all colors and depending on the look i want, i will change it up. i don't think i have EVER used my brown... and only occasionally used the black. i love using inks, but haven't found that i go to any one color more than the others...

I mostly use brown either Vintage photo or Chestnut Roan chalk ink. If I want a more subtle look, I will go with Pumice Stone. If I am doing a LO with bright colors, I will use my Jenni Bowlin inks. If I am doing a Christmas LO in traditional colors, then I will use either red or green.

Lately, I've been using a lot of either the cat's eye chalk ink in creamy brown or the dewdrop sahara brown. If I want a darker ink, it's usually vintage photo or chestnut roan. Once in awhile, I'll use a color that coordinates with my l/o, but usually it's one of the browns. I could just be too lazy to dig thru the rest of my inks....Maria

Tim Holtz Walnut Stain, and since I started using his ink applicator it's been lovely. So much easier than faffing around with a chalk ink pad - much more even too.

Depending on the page, I most likely would use black or brown. But probably not my Onyx Black Versafine ink, my best black ink. Probably the other one from M's and very old that's less stark black. And if I had one of the dark grey or black distress inks, it would be that.

Usually Walnut Stain, Pumice Stone, or Vintage Photo but it depends. If my LO is mostly pink I use a pink. I ink the edges of photos, too--blue on the sky, green on the grass, etc. I don't like white cores showing.

My favorite color is probably vintage photo distressed ink, but I never use just one color to ink edges. I use different colors to match the paper and cardstock. So I usually end up using fire brick red, spicy marmelade, painted shutters, and broken glass distressed ink on my layouts.

I almost never use black, although I think it looks nice, I just like and scrapbook with brighter colors in general.

I prefer chalk inks like Prima Edgers or Cateyes. I generally use browns or charcoal. I find that black is too dark for me and so are dark browns. I like just a hint of tawny on the edges for dimension.

Pumice Stone is a Tim Holtz Distress ink color.

So far my go to colors are all Tim Holtz Distress inks:

Vintage Photo for brown
Faded Denim for blue
Shabby Shutters for green - I really like this one on my brightly colored pages and projects!

Also, I was enabled by the Peas to get Pumice Stone yesterday at Archivers. Am powerless when faced with a good Pea recommendation!

all time fave... colorbox cats eye chalk ink in chestnut roan... color/black/brown.... depends on layout or project - if it's more fun, casual or bright, I'll use a color. otherwise, either lack or brown depending on what goes best with project. if u r afraid of black, try colorbox charcoal cats eye chalk ink - works well where u would normally use black, but it's softer, not as harsh as straight up black

I rarely use black or brown anymore. I tend to use a shade darker than the cardstock I'm edging. I have all of the TH inks, all of the Colorbox chalk inks and all of the Stampin Up inks as well as several of the Momento and other assorted inks. I usually use chalk ink but have been using distress inks more and more. I find that I like my edges to have more of a watermark effect rather than black or brown.
