How do you all organize your albums? Yearly? Themed? I feel like mine at the moment are random. I need to pick a way to do it and stick with it.

All of my family albums are done in chronological order. It just works for me. Once in a blue moon I might do a themed album. This is usually for a big trip, etc. |

Oh, I would have a hard time picking one way and sticking to it!
For years I did chronological albums, and I'm leaving them as is. I have several theme albums (usually minis), of specific vacations or events.
And then I have my current 3-ring albums, which loosely follow Stacy Julian's Library of Memories and are divided into: People We Love (with dividers for my side of the family, DH's side, and friends); Places (dividers for home, local, and trips); Celebrations (dividers for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions); and Family (dividers by name, as well as one for the whole family and one for brothers together).
So far, my current system is working well. The beauty of it is that I can always add another divider or even an entire new binder category if I want. When one divider section gets too full, it will get its own binder, too! |

I have one album for each year and minis for vacations and holidays i.e DD album. I use 3 ring binders, so I can add as I scrap because I scrap out of order and in 2 different sizes. |

Right now my albums are in the order I scrapped the photos, and I always pick pictures based on whatever I feel like working on. So, random order as far as time goes.
About half of my layouts are in boxes.
I have been very torn lately over how I want to organize my albums moving forward. I have three daughters, so considered doing an album for each and then they can figure out how they want to share family/holiday/etc layouts when the time comes. But I am not sure I am ready to do that. Right ow sticking them in boxes is really easy and I don't have to decide if the Christmas layout about the awesome gift one dd received from another dd should go in the Christmas album, one dd's album, the other dd's album, or some sort of hybrid album that covers all of those possibilities.
There is no way I am scrapping the same photos more than once!!

I organize chronologically, because it's the only way that makes sense to me. But I don't have EVERYTHING by date in the same series of albums, I have different colored albums for different subjects (each book is labeled with a name and date range).
So, I have pink albums for my daughter (birth to present day); orange for my son (also, birth to present day); yellow for Disney vacations (those labels have the month and year of the trip); green for Christmas; aqua for other, non-Disney vacations; purple for my All About Me albums; and black for layouts about my whole family (random holidays, events, and day-to-day stuff that does not specifically pertain to one person).
I posted a picture of what that all looks like a while back on this thread:

Looks like I have many options. I like the chronological order for most of the year and then separate albums/mini's for holiday, etc.

In the past, totally random! LOL! I would have one going for each daughter, theme albums for trips, one for my childhood photos, and a family album. Nothing ever got "done". As of January 1, I will have a binder for each year. EVERYTHING will go into it, including full-sized layouts, trips, themed, youngest DD's artwork, and probably next year's December stuff, all in a variety of page protectors. My goal is to have a nice, large D ring album I can display for guests to browse throughout the year, and to make myself remember to add the "everyday" stuff more often than I do. I will say that oldest DD has moved out, so she probably won't really have any interest in these yearly albums later, so much as youngest DD will. I may consider keeping a mini D ring for oldest each year with just some journaling, pretty paper, and photos that all contain events she attended when visiting. |

I have yearly family albums from 1998-present. Each album is divided by month. I put the LOs for each month behind that divider. They don't have to be in chrono order as long as they are in the right month. Earlier albums I did by season. I may go to that in 2014 when my youngest is off to college. I just scrap whatever events I feel like doing. Everything goes in there except Christmas.
Christmas has it's own book. We travel nearly every year and I make several LOs.
For each girl (I have 2 teen DDs), they have a birth through Pre-school album, and several volumes of their school photos and activities.
I have a book of my history from birth to the year 2000.
Then I have travel books. There is one called Fun in the Sun that has 4 trips to sunny locals in one book (Caribbean Cruise, Florida/Disney, Mexico, and Las Vegas). The rest are individual full size or mini album depending on what I felt like doing. |

I organise mine chronologically, and I use AC 3-ring albums. 2012 is the first year that I will have to use 2 albums.
I started off having albums by 'topic' (me, us, places etc) but then I realised it just didn't make sense to me. There were too many ways to 'file' each story and it felt far too complicated. Also, I hated flicking through albums and seeing the people in them at different ages - to me, it makes more sense that the people age with each book. I feel much more relaxed since I switched back to chronological storage. And although I store chronologically, I scrap whatever I feel like and the beauty of 3-ring binders means I just re-shuffle as I need to.
I do keep separate albums for big trips and holidays - for example I have one that is 'Travel 2010' because we did lots of short trips that year. |

I have several albums going at one time. I use the WRMK 3 ring albums, and I use blue for all our family things. Then each of my kids have their own color for layout that just pertain to them, birthdays, school outings, special events, etc. My DD is the buttercup yellow, my oldest son is the black, and my youngest is kiwi green. Then my granddaughter has her own album, which is pink. Our vacation albums are in cream, Christmas is red, and layouts of just my DH and I are in the orange. My dog is in brown. This works great because I can scrap whatever I want and then just put it into the correct album. Once in the album, the layouts are necessarily in order as of right now. Maybe someday they will be. This makes it easy for the kids then when it's time for them to get their own books. They can all decide which family layouts they want when I'm gone.

I have two kids and I thought about doing a separate one for each of them and a family album. I tossed that idea!!
I scrap chronologically and I keep each page protector dedicated to one child, front and back, so when I die they can split up the album and pull their own page protectors. They can fight over the rest of the family pages (however I think my daughter will win out over my son).

I do one big loose/chronological album for the year and have albums like that going back to 2005. Some are fuller than others depending on how much time I devoted to the hobby that year. I usually have one or two on display in my family room and they are fun to go through.
I'm in the camp of people who don't find chronological scrapbooking "limiting". I guess because I don't put pressure on myself to scrap everything or to "keep up". I work on layouts all year and at the end of the year, I go through the album and add any titles or journaling I may have missed (I use photo sleeves for some events, and so I don't always add a title card right away when I do that), and then I more or less call it done. I sometimes go back and do additional layouts if I have photos for that year that I want to work on, but otherwise I go on to the next year.
I also make mini-vacation albums. I have started some on-going theme albums like - "all about me" "all about us" (about my husband and me) and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with older childhood layouts - both mine and my husband's pictures. I think my own kids would love to see more layouts about when their parents were kids.

I have my modified version of the Stacy Julian LOM themes (mine are: everyday - a monthly summary with ephemera, a few photos; people we love; things we do; and all about us (definted as more characteristics vs activities which go under things we do), some big trips, heritage, and a December Daily from last year.
I have moved things around the categories as I've lived with them for a while (love the 3 ring binders for that!); right now, this makes more sense to me than strictly by year (although they are somewhat chronological within the sections), but I can see that changing over the years.
This year I'm doing a holiday album that includes past memories as well as new activities, not daily. It was fun to do one daily, but not enough has changed for me to justify the space and time to do another one right now.

I also do a modified version of S. Julian. I scrap in no particular order, but I put the finished LOs in the album chronologically - I use 3 rings to make adding new LOs easier. Each type of album has a designated color, for example, DS#1's albums are all his favorite color, red, and DS#2's are all blue. When I run out of room in one album, I buy another of the same color and keep going.
Things We Do - random stuff we do (pumpkin carving, washing the dog, jumping on the trampoline, etc)
People We Love - LOs about cousins, aunts, uncles, grands, friends, includes family gatherings like reunions
Places We Go - trips, museums, parks, etc. If we go there often, the first trip goes here, and subsequent ones usually go in "Things We Do"
All About Us - LOs about more than one member of the family and describes personality rather than something we do; my favorite album
All About DS#1 - specific LOs about my older son, including school & sports
All About DS#2 - specific LOs about my younger son, including school & sports
Book of Me - just me
Book of DH - just my husband
Year in Review albums - I pick my favorite 6-10 pictures from each month and do a 2 page LO per month, Easter, Halloween, Birthdays, and Christmas Day go here too. I've been doing these since 2005. |

I'm looking at what I have in my yearly albums and it seems like it's just a few things like trips, birthdays, holidays, celebrations, and some layouts of my brother's kids.
I've already taken out my sons' layouts so that they each have their own book. And my album as well.
I'm struggling with what to do with the layouts in my yearly books right now especially because I started doing Project 365/Project Life layouts the last couple of years.
Also, with my holidays/celebrations and Christmas. Which to keep together, and which to separate. |

I have yearly albums 1991-present (some are single volume, some multiple, some complete, some in-progress) - those are chronological
I have First Year albums for each of the 3 children
Then I've split some stuff out into separate albums - my wedding and convalidation; soccer (for the older two); Boy Scouts (DS); Girl Scouts (both DD and my childhood); vacations
I have chronological-ish albums for my childhood (1970-1979 and 1980-1984); high school (1984-1988) and college(1988-1990) and plans to do similar for DH
I also have an All about Me album in progress and the beginnings of an All about Him (DH) one as well.
I scrap as the mood hits me but file layouts mostly chronologically
