I have always wanted a pre-lit tree but the thought of dealing with the burned out lights always kept me from buying one. I have always heard of people having to send a section of the tree back to the company, etc.,--never easy solutions to get a bulb fixed. I am wondering if you have a pre-lit tree if you like it, how long you have had it, and how you deal with bulbs that burn out. Also, where did you buy a full, nice 9 ft. tree? I am determined NOT to string lights this year! Ugh! Thanks everyone!

**UPDATE:**

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I knew the Peas would know! We had looked yesterday at Lowe's and Sears, and I wasn't impressed. I just got back from Hobby Lobby with a gorgeous pre-lit 9 ft. slim tree and a Lightkeeper Pro! I used my 40% off coupon for the Lightkeeper Pro. I decided to go with a slim tree because I don't want it sticking out so far. My mom got a slim tree a few years ago and LOVES it. She says it's easier to get around to decorate too. I am SO excited to decorate now. Usually I dread it because of the lights--not this year! Yeah! Thank you Peas!!

We just chucked our first pre-lit tree last year. It lasted about four years before it started having sections of lights that were out. It was a 7.5-ft tree we bought on sale at Hobby Lobby so we felt like we got our money's worth vs. buying a fresh tree of the same size each year.

I'm looking forward to buying a new one this year! Actually we plan to do that this weekend. I would never go back to stringing lights.

Patter,
We have had great success with our pre-lit tree.
It is 8 1/2 feet (maybe 9) and a slim tree as I wanted to get it in a smaller space but still have the dramatic effect of a tall tree.
We have had it 8 years and bought it at Walmart.
I love this tree and can't wait to get it out again.
I have other smaller pre-lits that have worked for years too.

My first pre-lit tree lasted 5 Christmas seasons. I replaced it last year. It's so easy to put up a pre-lit tree. Make sure there are enough lights to suit you, though!

ETA: My first tree came with replacement bulbs--I just traded them out when one burned out--the whole string didn't go. It wasn't until the end that I couldn't get sections to light.

ETAA: after an exhaustive search, I bought mine at Wal-mart. I couldn't beat the price and look anywhere else in my town.

Our Home Depot pre-lit was been with us 7 years, (this will be the 7th year). We didn't use it (or any tree for that matter) the year we got the kittens and have had no issues with burned out lights.

(it's not an LED light, if that makes a difference.)

We also usually add a string or two of colored lights (the tree is clear) just to change it up each time.

I had one and it lasted about 3 years, it was a cheap one for 30$? I liked it enough that I bought another one. The only problem I have with mine is not enough lights. I normally have a color theme so I add what ever color of lights I'm going to go with this year it will be red.

I know nothing about pre lit trees, BUT I saw some beautiful ones at HL.

Our 9ft. slim pre-lit tree was originally from Hobby Lobby. We bought it used (for $75!) back in 2004 and I think it was a couple years old at the time. Sellers had moved into a new home that didn't have high enough ceilings.

We had no issues with it for 7 years - just replaced individual lights as they burned out. Last year an entire section went out and we cannot get that section to work again. We strung one strand of lights in that area last year but it's probably time to go ahead and get a new tree. I'll be looking at what HL has to offer.

Just wish we could find another awesome used tree for $75 instead!

I highly, highly recommend buying a little device called the Lightkeeper Pro. It looks like a red plastic 'gun', and you can use it to test and fix your pre-lit tree lights and any other mini-lights.

It's amazing! If a section of lights is out, you can scan the string to see where the problem is (it beeps if current is running through the string). Then you plug the light socket into the 'gun' and click the trigger a couple times. It fixes the problem nearly every time!

I couldn't find mine, so I had to run out and buy another one this year. But for $20, it is the best little gadget out there! I love it!

Ours is a 7ft from HL and it's on its 7th year. No problems. Haven't even had a light burn out yet.

We have had ours for 8 years now. A few lights are out, but nothing that is noticeable unless you are looking for them. LOVE it, and would never go back to stringing lights!

We bought a pre-lit from Hobby Lobby as well. Lasted about three years before certain sections quit working. Two years I added lights in those areas. It hasn't been put up the last two years. I personally wouldn't buy a pre-lit again unless you don't mind replacing the tree.

We have a 9 ft. pre-lit that we bought from HL. It is BIG! I think we have had it about 9-10 years. Last year, one string wasn't working. I don't remember if DH was able to fix it with replacement bulbs or if he just strung a strand of lights in its place. We love having a pre-lit tree and when it is time to replace this one, it will be replaced with another pre-lit. It wasn't cheap but for the number of year's we have gotten out of it, it wasn't bad either. The one thing that I think we will change the next time we buy is to get a tree that is not quite so big. It really is a lot of work to put it up and to take it down........not the tree itself but all the ornaments. It has hundreds of ornaments on it.

I have one came from Home Depot, purchased 2004. Last year my lights didn't work. Apparently one blown bulb makes all mine go out? Yeah didn't spend the time to fix broken lights I just added a few strands- it looked ok. In the market for a new one but not if I will get pre-lit again or not.

Nice!! Love a deal!

We got ours at Sears (after Christmas) a few years ago. It was 90% off and then... I think the sales guy messed up and gave us another discount because our final price was something like $13.64 with tax.

Oh well, whatever! Can't get better than almost free! Hehe! Even if it dies, we're like... it was $13. We'll get a new one.

Wow! Some of the pre-lit trees are $300 here; we're lucky if they are reduced to 50% off after Christmas so I still drag a real tree home. $15 at Home Depot.

DS has fond memories of Mom taking the backroads home because a Christmas tree protruding one foot out each backseat window of a BMW is probably not legal but Ohhhh the memories! Pine and the wind in the willows all in our back seat!

My 9ft is on it's 5th year with no problem. I wasn't looking for one, but saw it on clearance a week before Christmas. It was almost 400 for 75.00! Snatched it up and haven't looked back.

We bought one last year from Home Depot and I don't like it. It was one they had leftover from the year before so it was marked down so we thought we were getting a good deal but when we put it in the place where we always put our tree it was smaller and not as full as our old tree (even though we thought it was the same height - I guess we should have measured). I was dissappointed when we put it up. My husband likes it though because he always thought our old one was too big for the spot we had it in. Next time I won't be afraid to invest a bit more money to get something fuller with more lights on it.
