How do you get motivated to scrap? I generally scrap on the kitchen table however at the moment I can't get motivated to pull everything out of my craft cupboard and then put it all away again! | |

I can totally relate! I don't get my stuff out very often either, I usually go to crops, and having a "date" with friends helps. I will spend the days before planning pages and printing pictures getting excited about scrapbooking. Then, usually when I get home I still have a few unfinished pages that I am excited to finish and will work on them.

before I had a space set up, I used the kitchen for awhile. Small house and we don't have a dining room. I left my crap out - we had to eat at the counters.  |

I hear ya! Usually I wait until I am going to be home alone for a few hours so I can spread out all over the place. I guess there are a couple ways I deal with it:
I like my Slice but hate having to haul it out, so I tell myself it is okay to just use alpha stickers or stamps. Same with embossing, I just stamp a flat image and accept it. If I do get those things out, I work on several projects at once so it feels "worth it." For example, earlier this week I got out my Slice and cut out titles and die cuts for a couple LOs at once.
I limit the amount of supplies I have. That way there is less to haul out and put back. It doesn't take very long to shove one Priority mail box full of paper back in the corner by my bookshelf!
I only take out items like punches as I need them and I put them away as soon as I'm done. That way I don't have a big pile of things to clean up at the end.
Currently I have all my stuff stored either on bookshelves or in boxes under furniture. I'm thinking about moving most of it to some kind of rolling drawer/cart system that will be stored in a closet because it seems like it will be easier to roll everything over to a table than carry it one box at a time. | |

This is my situation and one I need to remedy. My scrap room became my DGD's nursery 3 years ago so the room full of scrappy goodies are now stored in my bedroom. To scrap I make a big hot mess on my bed! My DGD's favorite room in our home is...my bedroom where she wants to use all things pretty and crafty. I was pondering this and wondering how I can reorganize my bedroom to be more scrapbooking friendly, when I saw this thread. Hope other Peas will post their solutions to how to scrap in similar circumstances.

When I didn't have a room or dedicated space, I found creative ways to make space so I could leave stuff out. I just cannot -- do not! -- scrapbook if I have to get it all out and put everything away. At one point, this meant I was scrapbooking on top of a board I laid across an ottoman, while also using one of the pull-out keyboard trays on our computer desk.
After that, I have always found a way to put up a small folding table in the corner or off to the side of a room. It is not the prettiest set up, but scrapbooking is important to me and I love it, so we make it work. 
Is there anyway to set up a small table somewhere? In the past I have used folding card tables, and a drop leaf table. Even a TV dinner tray would work!
Could you invest in a cupboard/armoire that has solid doors that open/close? You could set up your supplies inside and it would be a functioning work station. If you could find an old Hoosier cabinet, it would be even better because they have slid-out enamel counters! They used to be huge $$ in the antique industry, but they have fallen out of style and now sell quite inexpensively. I bought one at an auction a couple of months ago for 30 dollars.
What about a short dresser? They are narrow and have drawers for storage. You could work on the top. I would even put one of these in my hallway and work there, if it meant having a place to scrapbook!
Take a look around your house and see if you can't carve out just a small surface and good place to keep your supplies. It is totally worth it.

I put a desk near my kitchen table. It is covered with so many supplies that I can't actually work on it, but I can work on the kitchen table. My supplies don't even fit on/in the desk and are spread out in the laundry room, dining room, etc., anywhere I can shove some stuff, but I did figure out how to keep my must haves handy on that desk.
I agree--I would try to carve out some kind of storage that works for you, even if it is only keeping a rolling tote near the kitchen table so you can easily open it and work. |

I used to live in a small apartment, so I had to share the only desk available with the whole family. I couldn't leave my stuff out, so I organized everything in bags and plastic shoeboxes. I would make mini kits for each layout, placing the cardstock/PP, photos and embellishments inside a page protector. When my kids were napping, I would grab the page protectors with the mini-kits and the bag with my tools and sit down to scrap. Ironically, I used to make more pages then, than now that I have my own space. | |

i am on a mission to get 50 layouts done by the end of the year, so i have to scrap at least 2 a day to get it done. i've got 11 done, so 39 to go and not much time. i simply take my pictures to the kitchen table and pick one to scrap then i will look for a sketch if nothing really comes to me for that picture. i have inspiration books and all that stuff... so it's not really that bad for me |

When we lived in an apartment and didn't have a lot of extra space, I did most of my scrapping at crops, or at a LSS I had a crop room "membership" at. I also had bought a big sturdy folding table that would fit under the bed when not in use, and I used it quite a bit after the LSS closed.

I very much agree with biochempea on this one. A folding table in a corner somewhere is the way to go.
Although I now have a craft room, it could be a guest bedroom in the blink of an eye. I have a folding table and almost everything of a supply/storage nature can be rolled into a closet or the attic leaving only the Expedit which is attractive enough with it's completed albums.
Leaving projects out is totally essential. I just couldn't get anything done if I couldn't leave something I'm working on out at sometime or another. | |

Tracyarts and Bedsandborders, thanks for the folding-table-under-the-bed idea. Have had the folding table in my room before but there is not room to leave it up for long lengths of time. Mostly it is my 3 year old DGD who loves all things crafty and thinks what is mine is her's! May setup the table and cover my scrappy mess with a table cloth when not in use. Hope the table cloth barrier works!

How do you get motivated to scrap?
This is the first time I've seen a connection between lack of scrapping space and motivation. I have no scrap space whatsoever. The kitchen table is it, which I love because it has good lighting and DVD player next to it. I don't mind putting away every scrap, although I'd MUCH prefer to have a dedicated scrap area in which to leave out projects to work on.
My motivation come from the photos themselves, a new pad of paper (even my ancient paper), seeing a new technique, or simply wanting to play with my scrappy goodies. I probably have enough motivation for half the Peas here, LOL!

half the time I don't because its so much effort to bring it all out/ pack it away again all while the kids are asleep... I tend to scraplift a lot now, I know exactly what I'll need to bring out and less to pack up and I still get the job done!

I hope it is! With Black Friday coming up here I think I'm going to see if I can find a good deal on one. Maybe I can leave one drawer empty as a space to stash all the elements of an LO that is in progress. I am having trouble finding any that are 12" by 12" though, so I'd have to find somewhere else to put the actual cardstock/paper that is the base of the LO.
I like the idea of a short dresser too, but I think my apartment is at the limit for furniture and if I add any more it will look too cluttered. I prefer the look of some open space to tons of furniture! | |

I was so amazingly lucky to be able to get my cubby transformed into a craft space!!! It is 2metres by 2metres, so small but nevertheless AMAZING. Before that I had a table in my bedroom (in the gallery for scraprooms) and before that I had a minuscule treadle table in my room which was 1m big!!!! I was motivated by the fact that I loved to do what I do and I just did it. I am/was a very fortunate person because some don't have a space!! But hang in there, it will happen |

J's has rolling carts that are made up of a stand and then I think it is 5 of those large iris boxes that can slide out. They hold 12 x 12, I use those a lot for my work in progress. Over the holidays you will be able to use a good coupon. I don't have the cart, but I always thought it was a great idea.
Thanks! I've been looking at different options online today. I found one rolling cart I liked by Cropper Hopper, but the reviews were mostly bad, so I had to cross that one of the list. Too bad. I've used Sterilite drawer storage in the past but found that the wheels often fell off, so I want to try a different brand. | |

We will be moving to an apartment in 18 months and I am brainstorming storage solutions for my scrapping stuff. I am planing to purchase an armoire to refurbish and alter to fit the supplies I have now. I have purged lots and have finally paired it down to an area that is 6ft. long and 3 feet high which includes the top surface to scrap on. I have a little more including books and a few larger items but I think the armoire will be perfect. Or even an old china hutch to place in the dining area so that all of it can be tucked away when company calls. I am still researching solutions so keep the ideas coming. I meant to add that all it takes to motivate me to scrap is a new pack of photos or a trip to Archivers for a new goodie.....I am back after a 3 year scrapping hiatus so I have lots to scrap. |

I have a corner of my bedroom to scrap in, I use a kitchen cart from IKEA as a desk and stand when I scrap. The cart has wheels on one end but I don't roll it anywhere. It fits between my side of the bed and the bathroom. I also have some shelves above the desk for storing things I don't want my kids to play with (cricut carts, scissors...)
My desktop is also storage space when I'm not scrapping so to actually use the desk I have to move things out of the way (onto my bed) and I also have a folding table that I store behind my bedroom door (I can't leave it up permanently because it blocks the bathroom doorway. Some of my supplies are stored under my desk and some are stored outside my bedroom in the hallway linen closet.
I don't like to scrap unless I have a good chunk of time since there is a lot of set up involved.

SusanK, I had to pare down my stash quite a bit for a move a couple of years ago too. I haven't really missed any of the things I got rid of! Good luck.
Unfortunately it looks like the rolling cart solution is not going to work for me. However, I explained to my bf why I need to rework my storage, and he suggested that we clear off the top of the fridge so I can store everything up there! So, all my stuff is up there now. This probably wouldn't work for everyone, but we have very high ceilings so it doesn't make the kitchen look cluttered. As long as I have my step stool this should work.
I think it will be a great spot because it is about two feet from the table where I like to scrap. I still need to rework the actual storage system though. Currently I have one of those "under the bed" boxes, two Iris cases, a priority mail box full of card-making gear, another box full of paper, and a binder full of stamps, plus a couple miscellaneous tools that don't fit anywhere. I'd love to sort everything into smaller bins, like an embossing bin, a Slice bin, and a punches bin, or have some sort of drawer unit that pulls out. | |

I get motivated alright but the actual scrapping is not happening!
I moved 20 months ago after separating and I have an extra bedroom that I use for office. My scrap stuff is in there but I do not have the room to 'office' and 'scrap' at the same time.
Because the light in the living/kitchen area is so terribly bad I usually do not bather to do anything.
It's a shame though; I really need to scrap, there is lots I need and want to do... |

Really sorry to hear this. With Black Friday coming up I bet you could find a good deal on either a folding table for your office area or a better lamp for your living room (I've heard OTT lights are great, although I don't have any experience with them). | |

Part of how I stay motivated to pull things out to the kitchen table was paring down my supplies. I only do Project Life at the moment and have a couple of small baskets that hold my stamps, pens and extras (labels, stickers, etc). Everything is easy to pull out of my Expedit bins since I created this system.
What about making up page kits? Put coordinating papers, photos, embellishments all together in bags so that you can just pull out a bag, adhesive and trimmer and go. |

I'm in the same boat.. I scrap at our kitchen table, which is really in the former "dining room space" and I have a huge kitchen counter adjacent to it where we can eat if the table is "occupied." (the counter is also used when I scrap tho, because I like the height of it since I stand a lot doing my crafting) I have a few rolling carts and store everything in closets, or in a cabinet in our mudroom. Everything right now is REALLY put away because I'm focusing on cooking for the holiday.
I am into making cards for the past year or so.. and I now only will take the stuff out on weekends, since no one is around then, and even if they are around, I like to be on the 1st floor with everyone.
I try and only take out paper, supplies that I will use on a project (like say I'm doing only Christmas cards.. I have an idea and will try an only take out whatever punch, die I will need for that project.)..
It's not easy.. I'd LOVE a room (Like Pennyscraps.. gorgeous).. but I manage. | |

Similar to the microwave cart suggestion, I have an old TV cart that I use for moveable storage. It can hold a ton, since it was designed for the old school big box televisions!
I think making your own kits is also key, especially if you are working in both limited space and chunks of time. So easy and fast to grab one!
