I do get my Shitzu shaved a couple of times/year.
Katybee: I only had to do that twice in his little life; thank God!! And it was due to an emergency(too gross to put here). They DO go into shock when they're shaven!! They shake and get chills and are generally sad when they're shaven. The sweaters DO help. I kept SO on top of my Shih-Tzu's hair (it's HAIR; not fur). I'd get him trimmed every 8-12 weeks to keep it a perfect length. It was a lot of work to keep up with. He'd need to be bathed once a week and blown out and brushed a lot too. I can't imagine having that long show-hair!!!! It's almost cruel to have it because they can't run or play or barely eat when they have it that show-length.

Anyway, let's all try to be nicer to OPs when they simply ask for an opinion.
