I discovered Apple TV earlier this year via a friend and couldn't understand what it was or why I would need it...now I can't imagine living without it. I love to watch the videos from 2Peas and other websites on it. You might want to ask Santa for one if you like the videos. Of course, it's great for other things too. My husband and I watch an episode of Frasier every day from Netflix off the Apple TV system. Love it!

Thanks for the recommendation! I have no idea how it works but I am going to go watch some videos to figure it out.

It's a little black box that attaches to your TV with an HDMI cable. I got it from Amazon and bought the Apple cable from them too. Their cable is nice and slim It can be found here. You might also want to check it out at an Apple store. But it's super easy to install...pretty much Plug and Play. In fact, after installing, I thought, that's it!? I thought there would be more to it. You should have a wireless Internet. I don't think it works without one...at least that's what I believe.

Are you watching the videos through the YouTube app? If so, any multimedia player with a YouTube app would work.

You can do this with a playstation3, xbox or wii too.
I just take a HDMI cable and hook it to my husband's laptop to watch anything on my computer screen on our big tv....HDMI cords are cheap. You just need to make sure your laptop has a hdmi port.

I do this with my Roku. I LOVE not having to pay the cable company!

I paid $99 for it. No I don't use the YouTube app. I just use airplay directly from my iPad when either browsing someone's blog where they embed the video or directly from here at 2 peas. As for what is the benefit? I'm not sure I understand this question except to say the benefit is I can watch videos on my big screen TV.

I got Apple TV for my boyfriends birthday last year. He loves it... We don't really use the YouTube app much, usually just Netflix

I know you have to have a HDMI cord input on your TV. I use it to airplay from my iphone and ipad. I especially love my class videos that I have to load from 2peas on the big screen. I can't load these directly from youtube so the roku, etc doesn't work (I don't think). Love Love Love airplay and mirroring from my ipad/iphone. Since Apple dropped the youtube app, I usually airplay from my phone so I can continue to web browse on my ipad. Multi tasking, lol

You can watch Youtube videos on Roku using the VideoBuzz channel. There is a Play All option so you can watch for hours on end without having to load each one. I can stream Glitter Girl all night long!

I love our Apple TV, but we mainly use it for Netflix (like the interface much better than the Wii and PS3 we were using previously). I'll have to try the airplay feature. That would be handy.
We've also rented a movie through iTunes. DH likes to watch movie trailers, which is pretty funny because he doesn't watch many movies.

I may switch to the Apple TV. We stream through the PS3, and it is a PIA. The interface sucks and so does the remote. my son uses his xbox in his room now and doesn't even use the playstation anymore.
Do you get all the pay channels with it? amazon prime, hulu plus, etc.?
great gift idea! | |

Mari61804 - As long as your tv has HDMI port and your computer does as well you can do this. No need for apple tv or roku or anything like that. I just plug the laptop right to the tv using the cord...been doing it for years. Anything displayed on your computer will display on your tv instead.

Thanks!! Hopefully my laptop has it. I know I used to hook it up to a projector screen when I was in college but I'm not sure if that's different.

We have an Apple TV in the living room for the big screen TV. It was hubby who bought it so it took me quite a while before I realized that I can watch Glitter Girl videos on that screen! I just bring my iPad with the YouTube app and hit play. That's when I got hooked.
A couple of weeks ago, we got Netflix as well (that's new here in Sweden) so now I'm totally addicted and I'm using that Apple TV more than I'm watching cable. lol!
My DH said that we're getting another Apple TV for our home office = my scrap area! Weee!

A friend of mine just purchased one last week and said that Apple TV is so much easier to use than watching Netflix or YouTube on their Wii. I'm seriously looking into purchasing one myself.

I have to confess that I have never thought about scrapping videos. BUT, I DID have a lovely weekend with Once Upon a Time on the Saturday/Sunday before Season 2 premiered. I plowed right through all of Season 1.
And, I did think at that time that my scrappy room should have its very own Apple TV so that I don't have to pull the one out of the great room and share.
It's one of those things that you don't know you need and then don't know how you lived without it.
