My oldest bought herself the boxed set of books. I've read the first this week, and plan to crack open book 2 today.

But found myself seeking out the first episode from the first season. I've watched 30 minutes of it, and I'm sucked in.

Is there any help for me now? LOL

Love the series but I couldn't get into the books. How far into the book did you get when it hooked you?

I was maybe a third of the way? Once I finally figured out who was who, and what side was what side, I got quite into it.

A friend of my mom's just got her first grandchild - they named him Tyrion.

LOVE the show.

Read the first 2 books but I had to go back and re-read to really get them. I guess the language/terms are a bit harder for me. LOL...

I'm another who couldn't get into the books, but have loved what I've seen from the series so far. I just finished season one, and am waiting for season two to come out on iTunes.

I started watching it online and was hooked right away and pretty much watched the whole thing in a marathon. The books are on my Christmas list, I just hope that I enjoy them 1/2 as much!

Winter is coming ...

I've loved the series so far and I loved all the books except for the last one, which is still unfinished on my Kindle. Very slow-moving and dense. I lost interest.

I read all the books and it was happy happy joy joy when they announced the series. The series follows the books well enough, but they certainly can't devote as much time to the character development and full storyline in a 1hr episode. I found the books to be a great read, and the series just added to it. Great read, good series! Can't wait for the next season to start.

My son keeps telling me I need to watch it, but then he told me my favorite actor dies. I can't make myself watch it and watch him die yet again.

We found it less expensive to add HBO to our cable package for a month. It's $10 for the month and you can watch season 2 on demand or via HBO Go if you do that. We find we zip through the season pretty quickly and then cancel until next season.

You can use HBO Go on your iphone, ipad, laptop, etc. I do that with shows like Dexter and True Blood too.

Seriously - DD and I were talking about that yesterday! How come yummy Sean Bean dies in almost every movie??

We gave up cable TV again about three months ago, and just kept our high speed Internet. HBO shows are about the only shows we can not get soon after they air, since they don't make the last season available until the new season is ready to start (it's the same for True Blood). My husband can usually find the shows to download for free, but I'd rather pay for them, so I just have to (not so) patiently wait .

Don't read the book until after you finish the season. It is neat to read what you've watched and find out their thoughts behind some of the their actions.....

If you like stories in the genre of Lord of the Rings, you would probably enjoy it. Kingdoms, swordplay...

We ordered the first season on dvd and dh and I are definitely hooked.

I read the books some time agao and they're SO good. Well, at least the first three are amazing. Four is iffy, and five I couldn't get through. I like the TV series too but I think the books are so much better. Some of the best stuff I've ever read.

The series takes place in another realm in medieval-like times. There are warring families, lots of court intrigue, and excellent characters and actors playing them.

As long as you remember it is not of this world, but another very like ours, it will make more sense. There is a fantasy element to it; dragons and such.

There is also lots of sex and nudity and abhorrence in the show, typical of HBO.

Welcome to the dark side!! You won't be disappointed... well until you get to the end of A Dance With Dragons and have to wait with the rest of us for the next book!

Great books and shows, love them both. They have a message board too, "A Forum of Ice and Fire" and there are lots of cool interesting theories on it!

Loved books 1 and 2. Having a hard time getting through book 3.

The series is awesome though!
