Scrapping moved to the back corner, where sewing crafts had been located. A new, showy, jewelry making area has been put front and center. Similar to stores remodeled after Recollections closed, and they made special SB section with low shelves..
Not sure if this is a "test" market design or the real deal. Our other store remains the same.

It must be a test market because our blah one that was not remodeled is still the same and not being redone. |

Mine changed sometime in October. Scrap stuff was moved to the back. It used to be right there by the entrance. Now that's seasonal items. Everyone in the store was walking around like lost puppies, me included. |

I have a new M's that opened withing the last year. Scrapbooking is in the front of the store on the opposite side of the entrance. There is certainly nothing special about the SB section and there are no low shelves. I was excited about the old M's in the area closing and the new store opening up, but I've been disappointed. Nothing special at all.

The closest one to us in Augusta has the scrap section in the middle of the store... not sure if its a new thing as we've only been in the area for 4 months, but they don't have a whole lot really (HL here in SC has quite a bit more than them), certainly doesn't look like its been remodeled or is a new store either though. |

The Michaels closest to me still has the old design, with the scrapbooking section near the front door.
The Michaels that opened/relocated nearby last year has the scrapbooking section in the middle. It is full of twists and turns and dead end aisles and is kind of a pain in the butt. It feels bigger, but it doesn't seem like it has anything extra from my local store.
The Michaels that opened 2 months ago in a nearby town has jewelry/beading in the center and a small scrapbooking section (3 or so aisles) on the far side, by cake decorating and such.
Maybe it's based on demographics or sales. I figure beading and quilting are the "in" crafts right now, so beading got the headliner spot since they don't carry fabric.

I have 2 michaels within 20 miles of me. The newer one is a few years old and has scrap stuff in the center. The older one has it in the first aisles on the left hand side of the store (opposite the entrance).
I definitely like HLs selection better than J's or Ms.

I went into one and didn't like it at all. The SB section was much smaller than the old style Ms. |

Two of my local M's are the same as they always were, and the other was remodeled in about 2008 with a huge scrap section in the middle, but not remodeled since then. |

I live near the test corporate store and the sb stuff is still right upfront. However, in the store a few miles away the sb stuff is in the back corner. I'm not sure what's going on, but its dark back there! |
