I'm making a few Christmas cards for family members. The card is basically the same, yet with each having its own unique difference. I'm loving these cards so much that I don't want to give them away! (Our 12yo suggested I make one to keep for myself.)

Anyone else experience this? I guess it makes sense, since we loved the paper enough to have bought it in the first place.

If I have to use all this paper before I die, I'll live forever!

I can so relate.
I have cards that I had make over a year ago, lol
I think my problem was that most of my cards I don't make them for a certain person.

I do take photos so I can visit them anytime I want, lol.
Try that, then you can put them in an album of just your cards

I take photos of my cards and keep the images, organized by year and theme, on my computer. I also make a note of who received it. That way, I can enjoy the cards forever and also keep track of my cardmaking/card sending and scrapping (I'm photographing all my projects as soon as they're finished).

In the beginning I wanted images for my blog posts, but I soon found out that I really loved keeping a photo record of my papercrafting.

I always have someone in mind when I make a card, so I don't have a stash of old cards. I send them right away.

I keep photos of every project I create but with that being said, my favorite cards I do not send but keep in a portfolio. I take the portfolio to stores as kind of a resume when I being teaching with them. I do like to have originals of some.

Not wanting to give my cards away is the exact reason I went from cardmaking to scrapbooking

Is there a way you could adapt whatever parts of your cards you love to make embellishments for layouts? Or use the same supplies on some christmas pages?

I don't make cards unless it's to specifically give to someone for an occasion. However, I did make one when I got my new Spellbinder Marvelous Square dies because I wanted to play with them. I don't think I could give that card to anyone. I love it. I used this beautiful paper I have been hoarding for a while also, so that didn't help. I also photograph all my projects and post on-line.

I can relate! I guess that's why I usually take a photo too. Luckily, my boyfriend has been the recipient of many of my cards and he saves just about all of them, so I can still see quite a few of my favorites.

ETA: I also typically use cardstock or paper that isn't my favorite, so that helps me feel less bad about giving them away. I save my favorite papers for the LOs I know I'm going to keep!

I do "batch" cards. I sit down and make 4 of each kind. I find I am more creative too, and it seems to just flow together more quickly. (but I also scrapbook/paper craft for others, so since I sell it, I always do my cards, embellishments in bulk)

The only reason I make cards is so I have something to do with the images I colour. Literally, I had a 2 inch pile of coloured images that no one was seeing before I said "slap that thing on a card!". Nearly two years later (February 2013 will be 2) and I'm starting to like my cards, not just the images. I've kept nearly everything though, except stuff that was coloured for a specific person. Usually I'm just colouring to colour, and it makes it harder to let the card go. They end up being more like little art pieces. The art being the image I coloured and the card being the fancy frame I put around it. Especially since I try to skip sentiments as I don't like them.

I do take a picture of everything, for my website and all, but I also have Iris cases full of cards that probably won't leave here.

I would love to get rid of more of my cards. Some I will keep for while, to look at and enjoy, but I always, always want to send them away. I also don't care if the recipient (gasp) throws my lovingly-made project away!

When my enabler friend first started scrapbooking, I wanted to stay far, far away from the hobby - I didn't want to be responsible for Keeping More Stuff in my tiny home. When she sent me a handmade card, however, I was hooked - here I could make these beautiful projects, and SEND THEM AWAY and make someone happy! Wow!

Now, of course, I scrapbook as well...

Like everyone said, take pictures of your cards! Then, you can always make another version if you want!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread, but I really do want to thank all of you for your ideas. Yes, I take photos of my cards too before giving them away. I'll also try expanding the card idea into a full scrapbook page. Thanks again!
