My DSO does Movember every year. Any excuse to grow really ridiculous facial hair really!! Does anyone else have a friend or family member doing it too? Care to share some photos?

Here are some photos we took today:

He has quite fair hair so we had to buy a moustache and beard dye kit to make it stand out more!

I just looked on the Movember website and it appears that Canada has so far raised the most money (shown in Australian dollars):

Canada - $23,159,988
United Kingdom - $16,381,595
Australia - $13,665,313
United States - $10,955,093
Ireland - $816,351
New Zealand - $617,429

Go Canada!!

I am in Canada and know a lot of men in my area doing Movember. The firefighters are big supporters of it and a large portion of them are participating. Some of them look great but there are a few I will gladly support just so they shave.

LOL Meg - I would run the other way if I saw him in a dark alley.

Most of the people I know who are doing it look like bad 70's porn stars.

DH has no chance of growing a Moe. I think he would look like a porn star too. Must be something in the water down here!!

It's huge in Canada... a lot of guys get a lot of grief if they don't participate. Many don't, but a lot do. You also discover that a lot of guys just can't wear a moustache... or people just really like growing the skeevy stache. One of the two.

I have to confess, I love the concept of Movember but I hate the word Movember. It drives me crazy to hear it, so I can't wait for the month to be done so I don't have to hear it. But it is a great cause.

there is a whole lotta mo in these parts! many workplaces seem to jump on board. it's not like 'are you growing a 'stache?' but more like 'why aren't you growing a 'stache?'.

another thing to make me proud of being canadian!

Canadian here!

My DH is participating this year. He is 48 and has NEVER shaved his mustache off since he first grew it when he was 16. It didn't take long for him to grow it back but I think he may shave it off again come December.

We see a lot of "70s porn star" staches around here

It's also referred to as "no shave November" so if you don't like the word Movember, you can avoid it.

My Monday night hockey team is participating. I am the only woman on the team and I asked for special dispensation to not grow a 'stache, but it was not granted.

So, I got some stick-on pink moustaches to wear. Those were deemed sufficient.

He hates it and can't wait to shave it off.

My grandson is growing one for the first time. His only problem is that he is a blonde so the 'stache looks like his upper lip is dirty. He is going to med school in St.Kitts and no one there knew anything about it. Most of the students there are Americans but some of them are now participating.

It is a month long event to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research. My start the month clean shaven and grow a mustache over the month of November. Organizations compete to see who can grow the best stache and raise money in support.

A friends fiance is doing it. He is the only person I know who is participating. I had no idea this was a thing until she posted his info. He looks like a sketchy porn star with his mustache, and she cannot wait until the end of the month and it goes away.

It's really big in the hockey community. No surprise, since there are so many Canadians. But I've seen other references to it - the Foster's beer commercial with the 'philanthropist' guy is one of them.

Canadian here too!

My DH is doing it, as are just about every male I know that is old enough to attempt to grow one! We went to a wedding last weekend and they actually had that as part of the game to get the bride & groom to kiss...make a donation and they will kiss. There were so many in attendance at the wedding with full moustaches kinda felt like we were at a 70's porn convention!!!

Another Canadian checking in. It's huge around here. I know a ton of guys participating.

I have to admit while it is a great cause (my father died of prostate cancer) seeing guys growing mustaches kind of skeeves me out. I am more for the go on vacation for a week or two and come back with a full one. I don't like the growing stages. My dh is the only one whose whiskers I want to see.

I've never heard it referred to as Movember. I do know some guys here call it "No Shave November," but it isn't associated with a cause for the people I know and they don't shave at all, not just keeping a mustache. It's more sort of a joke/reason to be lazy with shaving for guys I know than a awareness campaign.

Another Canadian checking in. Movember has been around for a number of years. I grew a mustache the first year and it bugged the heck out of me, looked horrid to boot, and itched. So I stay clean shaven and donate to all my friends that grow one. It's a great way to raise money, gives the guys a good reason to grow a bad mustache, and gives the spouses and friends something to laugh at (or complain about).

The morning DJ's on the radio station I listen too are doing this. Or at least one is. About three days into it one of the guys fiance noticed the mustache and told him to shave it off. He explained the cause and she said she would donate whatever it took for him to shave it off. So he did. And she did donate. I guess you gotta keep the ladies happy.

I really don't like facial hair and would prefer DH to not participate. I think he knows he would look pretty bad with a 'stache.

I always though Movember and No Shave November were different since the latter involves full beards and is more about not shaving than raising money for a cause.

It breaks down money raised by country, teams and individuals.

Another Canadian checking in! We just do what we can to keep warm this time of year.

My husband's doing it for the third year in a row, and for the third year in a row, I can't wait till December. He looks really goofy, but it's for a good cause so I'll put up with it! I know several other guys doing it, too. It's very cool to see how well we're doing as a country. Go Canada!

Now THAT I would love to see!! And you have given me an idea for DSO for next year. We are running out of ideas for really hideous moustaches LOL!

There were so many in attendance at the wedding with full moustaches kinda felt like we were at a 70's porn convention!!!

That's funny! And when you look back at those wedding photos in about 30 years, you'll be laughing at the bad fashion sense of people back in 2012!!

Movember co-incides with my work Christmas party every year. The first year DSO did it I had to explain to all my colleagues that "He doesn't usually look like this, he's growing it for Movember!" He was very disappointed when I told him that we're not having a Christmas party this year. I think he likes to embarrass me, but too bad for him it doesn't worry me at all!

Another Cdn here and yes it is a huge event. Dh has a goatee and doesn't grow beyond that. He is a firefighter and can't get a proper seal on his face mask with more facial hair. Maybe he can shave it all off on Halloween next year. He did say that a guy at work has the batman symbol for a moustache this month. Lots of fun.

I think your dh looks great, its only for a month. Good for him!

I also know a few woman who are participating and not shaving their legs

My DH is sporting a fu manchu this month.

He complains about it every day because it's itchy and annoying. But will he shave it off? Of course not.

I have a friend from school who is still kinda baby-face and he starts growing his moustache in August, as it takes him that long to grow any reasonable facial hair, LOL.

My husband doesn't shave for a few hours, and he looks like ZZ Top Movember comes honestly.

I love that you had to dye his hair to make it stand out more!
