The year she died we decided the best way to remember her bday was to do something for one of her favorite causes. This year we are trying to get people to donate blood.

I am asking the Peas if you would consider donating blood in her memory. Yes it will take a little bit of your time but it could save a life. Below is the public event that was set up on Facebook with more information.

I'm a fairly regular blood donor, but with the busy-ness of the holidays, I was going to wait until January to donate again, even though it's already been 8 weeks since I last donated. You've just given me the incentive I need to go this week.

My dh and dd 16 donate blood regularly. My oldest ds and I are not allowed to donate since I was stationed in England during the mad cow disease scare. My youngest ds 15 will be eligible in March. This is such a great cause and bless you for doing this in your daughters memory.

Thank you. There are a couple of giveaways if you post a picture of yourself donating.

Jessi the co-host has added some other things for those who can't donate.

I am not able to donate for medical reasons, but I will spread the word here. I have two relatives working in the Blood donor service here and know many people whose lives have been saved by blood transfusions so I fully support this cause.

I am also sending you prayers for your loss.

I'm so sorry! I cannot donate, though I tried several times and was advised not to any longer. But DH tries to make up for that. We do a drive at our synagogue and he donates a few more times throughout the year as does my sister. What a wonderful thing you are doing, turning a sad negative into a positive for others. (((((HUGS)))))

OK. Newbie. This is how it works. If your post consists of 80% sanity, 10% stupidity and 10% all kinds of crazy, we immediately focus on the 20% b/c it discredits the 80%.

I'm not eligible to donate until Jan 4 as I go every 56 days and can't donate early but I'll happily give a pint in her memory on Jan 4.

What a wonderful way for you to honor the memory of your daughter. I remember you shared with us last year as well.

I haven't given blood in over 20 years because I was under the assumption it couldn't be donated once you've had mono. I was never able to find a straight answer. This post caused me to look into it again. I learned that I can indeed give. I'll be looking for an opportunity.

What a wonderful thing. As someone who received several units, I am a big supporter of donating blood. I did it before I needed it, and one year and one day after I received it, I was back in line to donate again.
