Periods for me too, and hormones, not being as strong as a typical man, and not being taken as seriously as a man some of the time.

I have never felt I wasn't taken seriously because of my gender or that I have to work twice as hard than my male colleagues. I work hard because I love my job and know that my students benefit when I do my best.

Well, bully for you. I, and many Peas here, work in male-dominated fields, which means that we *do* have to work twice as hard because we don't get the "penis pass."

This doesn't take away from the fact that I love my job.

The whole grooming thing. It gets really old to have to do the hair, makeup, shaving, etc.

I loved my job too until there started being an assumption that because I was getting to the age where I might want to have children running around Africa was suddenly not advised and young males who knew nothing about how to deal with armed raiders were sent because they were more expendable. I got the text books printed when the city was going through a paper shortage. No harm to me. My replacement not so lucky.

I miss Africa.

I don't feel like I have to work twice as hard but I do feel at a disadvantage -- i have always been in male dominated fields. My company is also male dominated and I'm successful right now -- but as many articles lately point out -- being female does hurt your chance of reaching the corner office.

Menopause...

For the most part I love being a girl though.

As many have said, surfing the crimson tide. I hate planning my life around it.

I'm surprised so many people mention their periods....why do you have to plan around it? (Sorry if that's tmi) -- mine is barely a blip on the radar of my day to day activities. I hardly even notice it.

I don't leave the house for the first two days if I can possibly help it because the cramps and flow are so bad. Day 5 is a cramp repeat - to the point I somtimes get sick.

Now, I''m starting to add Peri-menopause into the mix, with all its uglyness, so yeah, that whole scene could just be gone anytime now.

I would have to go with discrimination and misogyny.

I'd say it is the negative body image. I would love to wake one morning and the only thing I would worry about size-wise is my dick. It wouldn't matter if my stomach wasn't perfect or my butt, all I would care about is if my Johnson was big enough. I wouldn't worry if I was dressed right to flatter my body type or if my make up enhanced my features. I'd just stroke my manhood and wonder if size does matter.

Oh, gosh. I'm going to go with what some people have mentioned, the more abstract concept of misogyny and basically dealing with living in a society where males still have privilege over females. Thankfully, I haven't had to deal with this on a deeply personal level (yet) but it worries me, and it's definitely my least favorite thing about being a woman.

My period sucks, too, but my meds are awesome and I thank modern medicine each time I take one of the pills that keeps me regular and light! And as for grooming...eh. I love to get dressed up for things and go all out, but day to day...I don't "do" my hair, I don't keep up with shaving if I don't feel like it, especially in the winter (thank goodness for jeans and leggings!), I don't wear make up, and I spend a lot of days in jeans and a t-shirt. It's great!

Oh, and, Pynk E: I found your post amusing, but I don't agree with the idea that the only part of their body a man cares about is his penis. Some of my good guy friends worry about their appearance, weight, clothing choices, etc, just as much as I do about mine, if not more.

Def the period...but I imagine hot n cold flashes r worse

I like primping not so much pruning...n I do it because *I* like not because society says so. N for days I'm simply not up to it? Then I simply don't bother n Dh knows better to comment on it.

Personally, I look like a male. I gave up on most of the maintenance of being a female because I'd look like a man in drag.

Then you are lucky enough not to have periods so heavy that you can't be more than a few steps from a WC for the first couple of days because of flooding

Apart from periods (and now peri-menopause in their place ) I'd say my inability to instantly understand technology/gadgets etc. I'm fairly intelligent, have successfully done various things in my life but my brain seizes up when it comes to that sort of stuff

Today, I will be colouring outside the lines.

Periods. They suck. I remember when I was in high school a girl said "whats wrong with having a period. It's no big deal". Turns out, hers last for 4 days and she just uses the thin pads or the low flow tampons. I was so mad she didn't have to use the super tampons for the first 2 days and have giant blood clots. Plus she never got cramps. I was about 20 when I stopped getting cramps.

Periods and female plumbing in general. And hormones of course and making/delivering/breastfeeding babies.
I also hate the maintenance. I like looking nice but it's a lot of work. It would be nice to be ready in 5 minutes but that will never happen.
Also, other women!! I always envy men and their friendships. They can be fistfighting one minute and back to being BFF's the next. Women can be very catty and cruel at any age (see a couple replies on this thread even!). I feel like we are our own worst enemies sometimes.

ETA - the constant double-standards!

Emily, I was basing my post on the studies that are quoted on talk shows. Obviously not all men go around not worrying about their body image just as not all women have a negative body image.

The fact that as I grow older I get uglier and uglier and require more maintenance. As my husband (and other men) grow older they get better and better all the time.
