Or do you even keep track/have a set amount?
Pretty easy - are you spending more, less, or about the same on Christmas gifts this year versus last year? | |

I threw a lot of money at christmas last year as it was a problem I wanted to just get rid of. LOL. So definitely less than last year, and I think less than normal. I'm buying for less people and making something really special for each person so I think that makes up for it.
Why don't polls work anymore? It's annoying |

Less. DH and I bought something we needed, a new bed but splurged an a sleep number bed. We agreed it would be our birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts.

We don't have a set amount, but I feel like we'll be spending less this year. None of the three of us even need or want anything, and I don't want to buy stuff just to buy stuff. And I'm making gifts for my friends and family. |

Probably the same. If it's less, it's only because I'm culling the list down this year. I usually buy family gifts for our friends, but I'm not going to do that this year - I'm going to bake stuff instead. Not because of the money, but because it's just too much to try to think of something. I typically do a board game, but after a few years of doing it, I'm forgetting which games I've already bought for them and I don't know which ones they already have, etc. |

Was adding up my purchases last night and I think it will be more on my kids but I am one who buys in certain categories every year and this year both needed exercise/sports clothes plus the usual stuff and both getting some furniture.
Not sure on Dh yet - hard buy for.
Rest is easy for us bc my husbands family draw names for adults with a set amount and I stick to a set amount for all nieces and nephews. My family does not exchange amongst adults except we all give my mom a gift.
I have 7 nieces/nephews to buy for and keep to a budget. We also buy for my Dh's aunt/uncle a single gift as they always buy for us and our kids. They are easy to buy for though.
We are fortunate that the extended family gift giving is not excessive. |

Probably about the same, maybe a little less. We felt like we went a bit overboard for DS last year and are going to do fewer gifts this year, though that doesn't necessarily translate to less money (but it might).

I am spending less, but not much less. I had a goal to spend $300 each for my boys and one son's stuff went to $400 after 3 items. So I usually spend $500 on each of them and will be at that amount this year, too.
The place I am saving money is on gifts for others. I am buying very few gifts for friends, and am only sponsoring one elderly person from the tag tree instead of 2 or 3.
I am going to stay out of stores and just shop online, because I will impulse buy those $10 and $15 items just because they are a good deal.
What confuses me is when I see the average person will spend about $750 this year, but how much are people spending when they are buying TVs and electronics and all the other stuff people were buying on BF. It doesn't take much to get to $750. |
My choice is to not take it personally - people have opinions. Particularly people here.-Peabay 12/29/11

Much less. Probably closer to 50% less. I'm committed to paying off my credit cards and not adding to my debt, which means I also didn't really save for Christmas like I usually do. So I'm making stuff more than buying stuff this year, and making sure that the things I'm making aren't too expensive either. My kids are grown, so old enough to understand. |

Less...but that is mostly because we did big gifts last year and don't have those needs this year. Last year dh bought me a new laptop and us a new computer for the kitchen. I bought him a Kinex and a dyson (he really wanted one!). Also we are going to Cabo (we are now going every other year) for 3 weeks for Christmas. We are driving down and while we don't have to pay to stay where we are staying (dh's parents have two huge fabulous houses for the time we are there) we will still have to pay for at least some food and activities. And I am going to be 34 weeks pregnant and I fully intend to get at least one, if not two prenatal massages at the spa. I had one there when I was pregnant with dd and it was fabulous!!
I think we are going to wait till dd's birthday (she'll be 2 in March) to get her big present - outdoor play equipment, since she really won't be able to play with it till then.
I would much rather save the money and remodel one of our bathrooms in the Spring.
I'm trying really hard to not spend too much on dh's nieces and nephews...since there are 6 of them it adds up quick! |

Considerably less. We have to move into a new home by the end of the month, and it's taking a lot of the money we would normally have for Christmas. But I'm actually looking forward to cutting back, and I think it will be good for the kids as well.

I think I spent less on dd1 this year than usual. I spent more on dd2 than usual. I think I stayed the same on dd3. I spent about the same on dh. |
